I’m looking for suggestions on special teams and kick coverage. Do we think it’s just the gunners ST values that go towards your coverage scores or is it more of a overall team score. I ask because I always have a couple of special teams specialists in my MP teams but am consistently poor on kick coverage.

I always thought that the team overall counted, but the gunners were valued as more important. When the teams coverage is weighted, perhaps 50% for the 2 gunners, 50% for the rest of the team. Nothing to base this on, just seems logical.

A study on this would be very interesting to me, because I am obviously doing something wrong. All my teams give up huge kick returns with alarming regularity despite the time I allocate to special teams in training camp and my "specialists" at gunner. Huh.

One of the things I try and do with my 53 man roster is to sign backups at linebacker, in the secondary and at the offensive skill positions that have good special teams ratings. I then set my offensive and defensive line to "No Special Teams" and those players I was able to fill out my roster with that are good at special teams as "Recommend Special Teams".
I also don't hesitate to use my starters on special teams if they have good special teams ratings.
I've generally had some pretty good success operating that way.

How is your kicker's kickoff distance and hang time. Long kicks with minimal hang time is a guarantee for good return distance. And the obvious, short kickoffs yield good field position for the opponent but not necessarily long returns. Just something else to consider.
