Do you remember Zork by Infocom from the early 80s? I do. I played all the games in the series and it inspired my buddy and I to write a bunch of Commodore Pet adventure games on cassette tape. Anyway saw this press release, copied it as I'm lazy on these things, it sounds promising as Activision is involved.

Jolt Online Gaming today announced that it will be publishing Legends of ZorkTM, which will give players the chance to once again take up the mantle of ZorkTM, this time via an Internet browser.

The Great Underground Empire has recently fallen and the land is in disarray. The Royal Treasury has been sacked. The stock market has collapsed, leading even mighty FrobozzCo International to fire employees from throughout its subsidiaries. A craze of treasure-hunting has swept through the remnants of the Great Underground Empire. The New Zork Times reports that trolls, kobolds and other dangerous creatures are venturing far from their lairs. Adventurers and monsters are increasingly coming into conflict over areas rich with loot. It's a dangerous time to be a newly-unemployed traveling salesman, but it's also a great time to try a bit of adventuring.

LegendsofZork.com will provide online gamers with a persistent online adventure, playable from any Internet browser. Players take up the role of a recently laid-off salesman and part-time loot-gatherer, as he explores the Great Underground Empire. Designed to provide gamers with a casual MMO game they can play on their laptop, desktop or Apple iPhone (in school, work or on the bus), there’s nothing to download, just go to hxxp:www.legendsofzork.com (http://www.legendsofzork.com/).

What makes you say its destined to fail?
Is it because its a classic series and expectations may not be met?
I find it hard to be pessimistic this early but they are shooting to the moon with Zork as the base.

I miss text-based commands in computer games.

"Look fountain"

I do not understand the word "fountain".

(No, just kidding, it is a water fountain.)

Oh, this is awesome. This basically sums up my gaming experiences in the 80s. I miss those games and the two-word commands... well, sort of.

Oh man I lost at Deadline so, so many times. Hithchikers Guide to the Galaxy was my favorite. The puzzle to get the babel fish was an all time classic.

I remember playing one of those type of games years ago and I came into a room where a woman was... so I typed
"Fuc* Sally" (or whatever her name was and I didn't put a * in the word either!)

The game ended as I was arrested for rape!

The best Infocom game ever was Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out how to wake up in the Vogon ship. And then there was the babel fish sequence, which I believe was one of the leading causes of suicide in the 80s.

There's a java version of it online as well. I always hated the part where you had to help Marvin fix something. He would always ask for a tool I had forgotten.

i had a Star Trek based text game, and if i got bored, i would order Uhura to take her shirt off or have sex with me...the game would reply with "captain. that is not an appropriate order", and if i said it again, i would get relieved and arrested.

most games i played ended that way.
