I took Big Ben. Just one more thing to piss me off in the Big Ben- Eli Manning- Phillip Rivers debate

If Pittsburgh wins it'll be Ben, if the Cards win it'll be Fitz, the resat of those choices are just wannabes ;)

Come on, we all know it's going to be adopted Manning brother Matt Leinart.

I think it's going to go to a defensive player on Pittsburgh. I just have a weird feeling this Super Bowl is going to be a blowout and the Cards are going to turn it over a ton.

My heart says either Warner or Fitzgerald, but my brain says Willie Parker.

I went off the beaten path a bit; as much as Fitzgerald has gone off lately, I can see him getting plenty of attention and Boldin going crazy. Seems like when one year wonder teams like Arizona win Super Bowls, its usually not who you expect winning the MVP.

Along those same lines, I think production might be more split between Fitzgerald and Boldin then the last couple of playoff game which would make Kurt Warner a prime candidate for Super Bowl MVP.

It will probably be the QB no matter what.

If the Cardinals win I think it's definitely Fitzgerald or Warner, and almost certainly Warner. If the Steelers win, I think there's a good chance it would go to a defensive player. I picked Troy P, but of course it could depend on who makes the biggest play.

I picked the same way based on the same reasoning. If I thought Arizona would win I would have picked Warner.

I think the Steelers will run the ball a lot against the Cards' D, and picked Willie Parker.

I went with Ben, although the Defensive Player of the year James Harrison has a real good chance if you ask me.

Edit: A good chance, but no votes yet.

I went with Boldin as well. I also love the story potential of a malcontent winning the MVP.

Ignorance showing here, but how and who determines the Super Bowl MVP anyway?

EDIT: The winner is chosen by a fan vote during the game and by a panel of 16 American football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football) writers and broadcasters who vote after the game. The media panel's ballots count for 80 percent of the vote tally, while the viewers' ballots make up the other 20 percent.

Isn't research wonderful?

50% of the time it is the QB, so it's a good bet.

For some reason, I just think it will be Hines Ward. No real reason, just a gut.

no love for the offensive linemen hmm?

and speaking of the 1's - i know who the KR/PR was, but curious who the CB and DT were...

Defensive MVPs I can think of...

S Jake Scott (Miami)
DL Harvey Martin and Randy White (Dallas)
DE Richard Dent (Chi)
S Larry (Smith?) Dallas
CB Dexter Jackson (?) Tampa Bay

...basically two turnovers makes you the game MVP as a DB.

QuikSand
01-20-2009, 09:16 PM
...and I think Chuck Howley won for Dallas, despite being on the losing team to Baltimore.

Jackson was a safety and Brown was a corner. But yeah. And there was a co MVP in there somewhere.

QuikSand

I'm one short and I think I'm stumped... Jack Squirek made the big play against the Redskins, but I think Marcus Allen was the MVP in that one.

And I always like the prop bets thread. I hope someone will post one at some point this year with some of the more interesting options.

What is the over/under on the phantom TD's the Steelers get?

Shoot, no love for the kicker? I still think the Giants MVP in thier Super Bowl win over Buffalo should have been Scott Norwood...

Fixed.

As good of a passer as Warner is, he still wets his pants and cries like a little girl whenever a defender is near him. And as rarely as that has happened in the playoffs so far, it is going to happen a LOT in the Super Bowl.

Warner, 4 turnovers, Steelers 8 sacks, blowout.

Or TDs that should have been allowed but get called back because stepping with your foot, pushing off with another, and then putting your hand down, having possession of the ball while crossing the goal line doesn't count as a TD.

While I think Fitz will have a hella game, Willie Parker is the difference maker in this game.

I think the last 2 are flipped.

Jackson was the Tampa safety with 2 (?) ints
Larry Brown was the Dallas CB who Neil O'Donnell made lots of money for.

Edit- stevew beat me too it...damn him. I didn't read far enough.

Just in honor of stevew, and to continue the theme, Ty Carter will have 2 ints and take the MVP.
