As some of yuou may or may not know my mother in law has been batteling a heart condition for about 2 years. She has been in and out of hospitals, had a pacemaker installed, an LVAD installed and been on countless medications.

She has been awaiting a transplant, but until now hasn't been able to get on the 1A list ( top priority) for a number of reasons. Up until now her LVAD ( a device that helps her heart pump) has kept her going, but that is starting to fail.

We just found out today she has officialy been moved to the 1A list and there is a chance she will receive a heart within 30 days. It could happen at any time.

Please find a moment to pray she continues on until she gets her heart, that she comes out of the operation and leads a healty and long life. And please pray for the doner and their family, who through their tragedy will allow someone I love very much to live.

Thanks everyone, god bless.

I will keep your mother in law and your entire family in my prayers. Here's hoping she gets the transplant she needs very soon.

I was actually thinking of her the other day. Will continue to keep her in my thoughts and will say a little prayer for the family that will donate a part of their loved one so your mom in law can lead a happy, long life.

I've been taking a break from FOFC, but I wanted to come back on and ask for all your prayers yet again. A short while ago we found out they have a heart that is a 98% chance of a match. My Mother in Law is on her way to the hospital to undergo the final tests. With any luck she should be in surgery by 9:00 PM EST. As soon as we find out it is a match we are hopping on a plane. My wife and I won't arrive in NY until long after the surgery is underway.

Please pray for Sue, it has been a long hard road. Also please pray for the family of the young man who lost hiis life. I hope his gift is put to good use for a long time.

well the heart wasn't a match.

Once they visualy inspected it they realized it was unsatisfactory.

My MIL was already sedated and it was literally minutes before the surgery was to begin. As far as I know she doesn't even know yet she didn't get it, when she wakes up I am afraid of the shock it will cause.

Mi Father in Law was devistated when he called and my wife has been crying all night, this has been such an emotional roller coaster for the whole family.

I wish there was more I can do for my wife, I feel so bad for her. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes, I hope for a better result next time

We went through the same thing in our family. It's rough when it's not a match. Best thing you can do for your wife is just to be there. She'll thank you later.

Update

My wife and I landed in JFK at about 4:00 and took a cab to the hospital and arrived at the hospital around 5:15. My MIL had just gotten out of surgery well. She did great. The heart started beating as soon as they put it in and there were only minor complications.

We were able to see her for a bit, she is obviously out of it, but has alot of color in her face and is doing well.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes.

Thanks again everyone.

Saw my MIL today, she is awake and alert. Has alot of color in her face. She was a little confused about what day it was but that was to be expected.

We were told she may halucinate but she didn't. She was very coherent, talking a blue streak and looked great and was in good spirits.

Thanks again everyone, your prayers and good thoughts I am sure were a help.

My MIL received a kidney and liver transplant. One great thing that you mentioned was that I remember how much better her skin color was when she finally had a functioning organ again.

As Mike said, there are up and downs, so cherish the additional time you have with her. It's a wonderful gift.

Also, if the donor family allows it, be sure you or your wife writes a note to the family after a month or two thanking them for their gift. They'll appreciate it even though they're obviously struggling right now with a loss. If you talk with the doctors/nurses, they'll let you know if that option is available for this donor family.
