Don't know if anybody follows women's college basketball, Kay Yow, who was coach for NC State, passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. I guess I probably follow this more than others here might, given that I kind of like women's college ball, she coached in the ACC, and she was the sister of Debbie Yow, the UMD AD.

Very sad. I know she had to stop coaching this season, but they weren't letting on that it was this bad. It's been a very long battle for her.

Oh no.
I wasn't particularly a fan of her as a coach (hey, I don't like anybody ever hanging close to the Lady Vols or even beating the Lady Jackets) but her character as a person fighting cancer and her grace while doing so was absolutely world class. I don't know how anybody could have failed to be impressed by her fight if they followed the story at all and it's not just women's hoops that poorer without her in it, it's the world in general.
Rest in peace coach, you earned it many times over.

It says something about the fact in the ultra competitive coaching business, that no one had a bad thing to say about Kay Yow. She was inspiring to many, and may her memory continue to inspire.

I attended many Lady Wolfpack games when I was a student at N.C. State, and she will be sorely missed by all who ever knew her.
This probably sums up what made her such a special person. I read a post on another board from an N.C. State engineering student who was visiting the campus with his parents during his senior year in high school. While they were touring campus, they ran into Coach Yow, who was leaving Reynold’s Coliseum after practice. The kid recognized her, and he went up and introduced himself and his parents. She walked and talked them for half an hour asking questions about his aspirations, and sharing her insights on the university. This was not a potential athlete for the university, he was one of thousands of potential Engineers, and yet she stopped what she was doing to share her love for the school. The kid was immediately sold on NCSU.
R.I.P. Coach Yow, and prayers to your family.

Was afraid this was going to be the case since the news came several days ago that she had entered the hospital. Class person, great coach.
