It was hijacked shortly after leaving Istanbul. It has since landed in Athens, and the hijackers want to be flown to Germany. There are 196 passengers (including 3 members of the Turkish Parliament) and 8 crew members on board.

My sense is that they are behaving unethically. Other than that I have no information.

I can't seem to find anymore info about this story. Has anyone seen anything else of note. Strangely, CNN's article now says the hijacking occured at 10:20 EST and my watch says it is 9:02.

Last i read it was one hijacker wanting to be taken to Greece or something like that.

Check out the English Newspapers, they tend or Sky news they tend to be well up to date with European events.

The plane landed in Athens and all passengers were reported safe. The Greeks have stated that the hijacker is not related to any known organized terrorist groups. He was reportedly just depressed.

I heard on the radio this evening (on the way home from work) that the passengers were starting to be let off the plane. Anyone else heard anything like this?

Turkish Airlines hijacking ends (http://www.msnbc.com/news/892324.asp?0cv=CB20)

The 20-yeard old Turk surrendered. Apparently, he wanted to go to Germany to be reunited with his father.

Aren't there flights to Germany from Turkey? He was probably put on standby and rerouted, that would be enough to piss anyone off to the point of hijacking a plane. :D
