Out today, anybody playing it yet? I'll be picking up my copy in about an hour.

Will probably pick this up today or tomorrow. I wasn't impressed with the demo, but Mrs. Leafs and I have played through all the other main RE games so I'm sure we'll at least try this too.

Would be interested in any reviews.

Just picked it up. Waiting for my buddy to get off work to play some co-op.

I know it is too early to answer this question, but I'm wondering if this game is any good as a single player game or if it is only good for co-op play?

FYI.....Toys R Us is offering a $20 gift card if you purchase RE5. Pretty good deal.

Reviews seems to say that it's playable and fun as a single-player game, but occasionally annoying because of the AI. Sounds like the game was designed for co-op, so solo play works but isn't the optimal experience.

Anyone have early impressions?

Mrs. Leafs and I played it last night. Co-op wasn't bad, even the split screen was easy to get used to. We're playing on "easy" mode so we should make it through the whole thing in a few weeks if we stick with it.

The franchise has definitely switched to an action format. No more puzzles or atmosphere like it used to have. I liked the old way better but my guess is most people will prefer this.

My friend and I have been playing this all weekend, almost exclusively except for some fits of Rock Band 2.

It's a great game, it builds on what Resident Evil 4 started back in 2005. Maple Leafs is right, there's a lot less "horror" in this "survival horror" game, in fact I'm not even sure the game could be classified as "survival horror" anymore. I, like Maple Leafs miss the original feel of the game, I liked the atmosphere in one and two.

The game is made for cooperative play, whether it's split-screen, or Xbox Live, Capcom wants you to have a friend involved, which is fun. I haven't tried it out with the AI, but I've read that she's capable of holding her own.

We haven't gotten very far because we're playing on Veteran difficulty (which is the hardest difficulty you can start with off the bat) and the enemies are plentiful and difficult to dispose of, not to mention the scarce ammunition.

But overall I'm having a lot of fun with it so far.

Very fun game so far. I'm about 70% of the way through and I've been playing it all online co-op with my brother. It's a blast. Hoping we can finish it within the next several days.

I have a question about the backstory that I'll put in a spoiler tag even though it's mentioned in the first cut scene...

Did we know that Jill Valentine was dead?

I've played RE 1 through 4, plus Code Veronica, all the way through. I thought I was pretty up on the storyline, but I had no idea about that. RE5 seems to assume I know about it. What did I miss?

Yeah, I noticed that myself during the first cut scene. I've played every Resident Evil except for RE 3: Nemesis, which I know she was the main character in, so I figured I missed something during that game.

I had no idea she was dead.

OK. Maybe this is like the Russian bad guy who shows up in RE4 (who causes Leon to say things like "I knew our paths would cross again"), where the game just randomly introduces something you've never heard of and then acts like it's a well-established plot point?

I'm disappointed to hear that. The atmosphere is what made the series for me. I loved the first two.
