Free Agency:
Players in the last year, of importance:
CB Roderick Hatcher
S RJ Baxter
OG Scott Lewis
WR Mitch Waterman
OT Mack Volz
S Dean Dawkins
P Bennie Bridges
LB Raymond Donovan
DT Al Wilson
LB Benjamin Hampton
OG Dwayne Schlereth
S Harvey Roney
We extend Bennie Bridges by a year.
I need to clear up some cap room for re-upping some players and Grady High.
I trade Raymond Donovan to the Saints for their 2nd round (30).
I extend CB Roderick Hatcher by three years and OG Lewis Scott by the same.
I trade OT Mack Volz to the Ravens for their 3rd (8) and next year’s 7th. I can’t keep an Ot on a pro contract unless he is really, really good, because they cost so much money.
I extend Marvin Solymos by a year and drop his cap hit this year by 4 million.
I look at the draft and I see an amazing QB prospect. Plus an amazing DT - 100 in everything. I want to get the 1/1 pick, so I can get my next franchise QB.
I trade my 1st round picks in the next two years for the Panthers 1/1 this year and their 6 and 7 next year.
I do not have the cash for both Grady High and the 1/1 dude. I release High from my Tag and he is free to sign with anyone.
I trade DT Al Wilson to the Broncos for their 2, 6 and 7 in two years.
I also trade LB Benjamin Hampton for next year’s 5th rounder from the 49ers. I wouldn’t have done this in another year, but I need the money.
Alright, let’s head to the draft. I haven’t; made decisions on WR Waterman, S Dawkins and S Baxter yet, but I will.

The 2048 NFL Amateur Draft
We take:
QB Lenny Sampson, QB from Nebraska:
Stats:
54/100
54/100
54/100
37/68
54/100
98
39/72
54/100
71
100
The consistent stats in four categories is suspicious., but he is worth the risk
My needs:
QB, RB, TE, WRx2, OG, OT, DEx3, DTx2, LBx3, CBx2, S (starter quality only, perhaps)
At the 1/21 slot, I look around.
The best player is WR Floyd Middleton. I could draft Middleton and trade Mitch. Two studly WRs would help a rookie QB get caught up. I would take a stud OT, but there aren’t any. I need a DE starter, but none shout “Draft me at 1/21”. There are a pair of LB I could draft my third starter.
I trade WR Mitch Waterman to the Rattlesnakes for their 2nd rounder in 2050. I draft Middleton.
One of my LB is still there at 1/34, so that draft pick is automatic.
1/1 - QB Lenny Sampson, Nebraska, 5.5/8.2
1/21 - WR Floyd Middleton, Eastern Washington, 4.0/7.5
1/34 - LB Gene Rivas, Washington, 4.7/6.2
2/30 - DE Mitch Beyer, Washington State, 3.9/4.8
2/34 - OG Rico Johnson, East Carolina, 3.0/4.8
3/8 - DE Mo Stokes, Purdue, 2.0/5.6
3/11 - WR Percy Stevenson, Florida, 2.8/5.9
3/14 - LB Sean Powell, Oregon State, 3.5/5.1
3/17 - DT Bo Casher, Cal-Northridge, 2.7/3.6
3/34 - CB Eugene Houston, Oklahoma State, 2.2/3.2
4/34 - TE Alfred Swann, Kansas, 3.3/4.8
5/17 - FB Graham Harden, Iowa State, 3.2/5.0
5/34 - WR Marshall Manning, Cal, 2.6/2.7
6/4 - RB Stanley Crouse, Florida, 2.0/2.8
6/11 - LB Brad Wing, Michigan State, 2.0/3.1
6/34 - OT Rob Danskin, VPI, 2.0/2.8

Brennan will be a KR/PR

The 2048 Huntington Highlanders
QB Lenny Sampson - The keys have been turned over
RB Albert Hall - I want to see him bounce back from a sub-par season last year
FB Ryan Garth - There is no where to go from last year but down
TE Maurice Sporzynski - Meh
WR Donald Hightower - If he can just keep it up
WR Floyd Middleton - A very strong rookie, plus our PR this season
OT Colin Hampton - This is the first time I can recall having 4 out of 5 O Line with All Pro status
OG Calvin McWilliams - He has proved to be very good for my team
C Harvey Stone - After two great years, does Stone have another level?
OG Lewis Scott - Very good indeed
OT Rickey Forbes - Now starting due to cost and skills on paper. Can practice turn to production?
P Bennie Bridges - Always saucy
K Darrin Maloney - Yet another All Pro, and you love him to death
DE Mo Stokes - A green run stopping specialist. He was not meant to start. Will he suck?
DT Marvin Solymos - He certainly won’t
DT Alonzo Dasilva - The best DT to start alongside Solymos in quite some time, but still green
DE John Cook - Only had an adequate debut, but has a chance to really do something
WLB Geoff Drake - The worst of my three LB in tackling, but very good at coverage.
MLB Joseph James - This is where he will be for a long time
SLB Geoff Rivas - The rookie has a 100 potential run blocking, but weaker pass coverage
CB Roderick Hatcher - More good years, now with a professional contract
CB Quinn Vasilatos - He had a weak season as the starter last year, and needs to come back
S RJ Baxter - Still more meh than amazing.
S Dean Dawkins - Contract extended so long he may retire a Highlander
KR/PR CB Winfred Brennan, S Harvey Roney
I make one adjustment to my roster. I cut DE Mitch Beyer the bust. I sign DE Johnnie Rodriguez. Johnnie was a UFA for us two years ago, and last year spent some time as a backup for Richmond. Now that he’s developed, I expect using him as our main backup for the year.

A news e-zine asked me to name my three favorite teams of all time. Of all of the teams I’ve had, which three features my favorite group of players. Here was my answer:
My favorite roster of all time is definitely the 2015 Albuquerque Rail Runners. It has everybody I loved from that dynasty on one roster. Let’s check it out.
The 2015 Albuquerque Rail Runners
QB Tony Clements - He’s a man
RB Heath Shepherd - And so is he
FB Warren Dole - Adequate
TE Ed Gardener - Rocktastic
WR Johnny Baker - Solid
WR Donald Wagner - Solid
C Monty Brennan - I want to see another good season out of him.
OG Orlando Wells
OG Scott Pintsak - Let’s get better
OT Lenny Perry - Starting to look good, will his stats follow
OT Kevin Hargrave - We’ll start him, he’s okay
P Steve Washington
K Olindo Mare
DE Andrew Kadanoff - Come one, let’s step it up.
DE Scottie Watt - He’ll start this year instead o Gaines
DT Ross Meadows - Always fun to speak his name
DT Roosevelt Wilber
LB Monty Joseph - Adequately alright
LB Blake Crawford - Okay too
LB Quinn Burroughs - A strong LB, could be amazing
CB Leon Morabito - Awesome
CB Jimmie Rebensdorf - Also awesome
S Eric Carlson - Also strong
S Travis Westbrook - Also strong
Quinn Burroughs and Jimmie Rebensdorf were rookies that year. Of that group, which ones were in the HOF?
Ross Meadows, Quinn Burroughs, Leon Morabito, Eric Carlson, Ed Gardener, Tony Clements, Olindo Mare, Travis Westbrook, Heath Shepherd, Monty Brennan, Donald Wagner and Johnny Baker! That’s 11 starters and a kicker! That is a huge collection of talent on one roster. The went 13-3 and won the Super Bowl.
And that’s just HOF. Orlando Wells was an All Pro a bunch of times, Jimmie Rebensdorf would be as well, and I think I recall Kadanoff being one once too.
My second favorite roster of all time is my recent undefeated season in 2040.
The 2040 Huntington Highlanders
QB Grady High - YAY!
RB Jake Duffy - YAY!
FB Courtney Pierce - Who cares?
TE Rick Rivers - YAY!
WR Jerry Platt - We have got to get more from you this season, or you are getting traded.
WR Roosevelt Beverly - I have high hopes for ya.
C Archie Galloway - Let’s start him now!
OG Kim Fisk - And him too!
OG Steve Coffey - He is almost developed already
OT Will Poston - A fixture
OT Roosevelt Morin - One All Pro already, can more follow soon behind?
K Darrin Maloney - Great, but needs to kick like it
P Bennie Bridges - More green than I thought when I drafted. The beginning of the Bridges era,
DE Don Covington - Can he reclaim 12+ sacks annually?
DE Sam Walden - Had a lousy rookie year, but almost fully developed. Has to improve, right?
DT Marvin Solymos - I really like him, btw
DT Ian Agrawell - Just a pass rush specialist
LB Anthony McKnight - The Martinez era is over
LB Vincent Newsome - Green but good SLB potential
LB Jason Northcutt - A solid enough WLB
CB Jim Ackerman - He is a man
CB Bob Pearson - Boomed a bit in camp after getting pro contract.
S Dean Dawkins - Another great year please. Thanks.
S Clyde Del Greco - Barely, and I mean barely, edged out rookie S Dominic Gaylor, who is just too green.
KR/PR - CB Dwight Stevenson, WR Hunter Carlisle
It’s still too early to tell about the destination of many of these players. Grady High, Jake Duffy, Darrin Maloney and Rick Rivers will certainly be in the HOF. Jim Ackerman is. Pearson and Dawkins probably will be. Ian Agrawell has had four consecutive All Pro seasons with Dallas, and needs a few more for a shot. Both Jerry Platt and Roosevelt Beverly have had All Pro seasons. So has Will Poston and Bridges and Solymos.
The one bad thing about this year is that I had just let go of a HOF guy the previous year (the one who I can’t tell you who it is yet, no spoilers). It’s also a bit early for many of these, but this is one of my epic rosters, due to its 16-0, and 3-0 in post-season play.
Number 3:
The 2028 Huntington Highlanders:
Your 2028 Huntington Highlanders
QB Ernest Mayes - Fresh off the Quadfecta
RB Grady Pender - Starting to get a little long in the tooth.
FB Tracy Kramer - Now fully developed
TE Brant Carman - Off his 1st All Pro season
WR Kenny Marshall - Off his 2nd
WR Eugene Jonas - Rookie is pretty developed
C Steven Marshall - Will start again this year
OG Bruce Holliday - 3 All Pros in 4 years. Our most consistent O Lineman
OG Neil Lee - Jumped over Thomas Cobb in the competition for a starter
OT Roger Fisher - Very developed, but not that great or anything
OT Derrick Collier - Patch
P Leo Rayburn - Awesome
K Christian Huffman - Awesome
DE Bert Curtain - Please get back to your 9-10 sacks/year.
DE Floyd Gardner - BAP draft two years ago and now starting. You are never upset with a BAP pick
DT Joey Springer - Has developed very well.
DT Raymond Stargell - Very good for a 3rd rounder, looks like a late 1st
LB Quinn Burroughs - Final year with the team as he would not re up for us
LB Jeff Grier - Signed him to a small professional contract but is just a patch.
LB Sedrick Rhinehart - Will start and decently developed already
CB Mercury Greene - Ennhhh
CB Jim Ackerman - Has the potential to be Leon Morabito.
S Troy Gracia - He’s pretty solid
S Derek Long - Run stopping specialist with solid pass coverage skills.
PR will be Eugene Jonas and KR will be CB Winston Snyder with help from Jonas
This team went 14-2 but lost to the 13-3 Vikings in the Super Bowl, but it has a huge collection of talent. This is Jim Ackerman and Derek Long’s first year and Quinn Burroughs last. Both corners are HOF corners. Derek Long is in the team HOF but not Canton. Quinn Burroughs was a HOF player fresh off another All Pro season with my new team. Mayes, Pender, Carman, Kramer and Marshall were all top notch talent ballers. Of those, Mayes was a record setting QB, Pender and Carman HOFers, Marshall had a few All pros and Kramer would have 6. Bruce Holliday was a fixture for years with All Pros. The DE tandem of Curtain and Gardner is my favorite in my 47 year history as a GM. Curtain was a HOF player. K Christian Huffman is HOF as well. At the end of the this season, Burroughs would get his final All Pro and retire.
Total number of HOF - 8
Team HOF - 1
All Pros - 6 additional ones
This was definitely a fun year.

Week 14 - Tennessee
Week 15 - San Antonio
Week 16 - BUFFALO
Week 17 - TENNESSEE
We finish the preseason an anemic 1-3.
This is a good year for a rookie QB to learn the team - Albert Hall as the RB, a great WR tandem, a star FB, a very strong O Line, the best kicking game, and a good secondary and LB corps to stop the opponent from doing too much.
Let’s see how well Lenny Sampson will do in the limelight.
Before we begin, I extend RB Albert Hall by two years, and reduce his cap hit by a few million over that time.
Hall is questionable, but I’ll start him week 1. OT Colin Hampton is injured as well. Backup QB Ian Sawyer has a Hip Pointer and can’t play for a few weeks without risk of exacerbating the injury. S Harvey Roney is rocking a sprained neck.

Week 1 - Opening with Washington is tough for a rookie QB. They’ve been in the playoffs several times over the last few years and won the Super Bowl just three years ago However ,we manage to defeat them with a 40-25 victory. S Dean Dawkins is the Game MVP and NFL Defensive Player of the Week with 2 picks and one returned for a score. Roderick Hatcher also had a pick and score. Here was Mr. Sampson in his first game for us - 19 of 40, 240, 2:3, 2 sacks,1 rush TD. HE hit my TE Sporzynski and Hightower for scores. In fact, Sporzynski had his first 100 yard day ever - 5 for 112. A good beginning to the year. Now we take on one of he best teams in the NFC.
Week 2 - We face the tough Cowboys, and no one is surprised when we come up losers 10-21. Dawkins had another 2 picks. Solymos grabbed two sacks. Not a good day for Sampson and his 0:3 ratio. Hall had our sole rushing TD.
Week 3 - Back to our winning ways with Baltimore falling before us 44-10. Game MVP and NFL Offensive Player of he Week QB Lenny Sampson - 21 of 29, 353 yards and 4:0 ratio. Holy crap! WR Donald Hightower had 9, 144 and 2 scores. Floyd Middleton came down with the other two scores - the rookie to rookie connection! Dean Dawkins with his 5th pick. Another rushing score by Hall. A few players are banged to probable, but they’ll start for us.
Week 4 - We declaw the Jaguars 27-7. Game MVP and NFL OPotW is Albert Hall with 28 caries, 208 yards and 2 scores. Sporzynski catches the lone aerial score. Dawkins with his SIXTH pick in four games. Colin Hampton already has 10 KRB. DT Solymos is injured a bit but will start next week anyway against the 4-0 and Super Bowl Champion Bengals.
Abe Sargent
09-13-2011, 01:36 AM
Week 5 - This is a tough challenge. Well, the good news is that we manage to defeat the Bengals 24-17. Game MVP is Albert Hall with a rush TD. Sampson hit Hightower three times for 103 yards and a score. Lewis Scott is doubtful with a broken finger and I deactivate him. Starting at OG will be Dwayne Schlereth
Week 6 - Another tough challenge, in the battle of one loss teams with Pittsburgh, and this time, we do not win. 19-23. Pick by Hatcher. Hall added a score on the ground. Maloney went 4 for 4. A good time for our Bye next week. The Steelers, Bengals, Cowboys and Redskins was a rough start. (3 of the teams to win a SB in the last five years) I’m happy we went 4-2 with the rookie Sampson under the helm.
Week 7 - BYE. Healing is good.
Week 8 - The one win Jags fall to us 47-17. FB Garth had two rush TD, Hall had one, and Sampson had a 2:0 day with Middleton getting TD 3 and 4. Dawkins rocks his 7th pick, and Baxter and Vasilatos each get one too. Stone already has 20 KRB. We have two major injuries. Backup C Chad Briggs is out with a broken jaw. WR Dale Tate is out with broken ribs. I toss both on IR. I sign: C Fred Bajorak as a patch backup and WR Moe Austin. OG Scott is still questionable. I put Austin in the 3 spot again, since I have a rookie QB and I can give him a vet in the receiving corps.
Week 9 - We defeat the Bengals again in OT 27-24. Marvin Solymos is doubtful with an injured shoulder and benched. Rookie DT Bo Casher will start in his place until his return. Game MVP is Maloney who was 2 of 2 and kicked the 59 yard GW FG. Pick and ret TD by Hatcher. Rush TD by Ryan Garth. Hightower caught a score too. OG Scott returns next week.
Abe Sargent
09-13-2011, 02:09 AM
Week 10 - The Chiefs fall 36-7. Hall is the Game MVP with 29 carries, 115 yards and 3 scores. CB Vasilatos gets another pick. WR Floyd Middleton got a PR RET TD. S Roney is doubtful again. I bench him. Middleton and CB Brennan are stepping in for his KR/PR duties.
Week 11 - We lose to Pittsburgh and both teams are 7-3, and Pittsburgh has the tie breaker because they swept us. 24-27. MLB Joseph James had 17 tackles and 2 assists. Baxter and Vasilatos each had a pick. Moe Austin and Albert Hall caught scores.
Week 12 - Game MVP and NFL DpotW RJ Baxter has 8 tackles, 2 picks, and a RET TD in our 24-10 victory over Baltimore. Calvin McWilliams rocks 7 KRB this week. LB Geoff Drake notches a pair of sacks. Moe Austin caught another TD. Hall had over 100 yards rushing but no scores. Garth had his 4th TD of the year though.
Week 13 - With a score of 30-7 over the Eagles, and with Pittsburgh losing, we are one game in front. Maloney was 5 for 5. Hightower had 5 catches for 163 yards, but went scoreless. Lenny Sampson was 17 for 26, 306 and 1 to Moe Austin. Hall got over 1000 rushing yards and had his 11 rush TD. DE Cook grabbed 2 sacks. Both of my starting safeties, Dawkins and Baxter, grabbed picks. C Stone notched his 30th KRB of the season.
Abe Sargent
09-13-2011, 10:23 AM
Week 14 - Tennessee falls 27-6 and the Steelers lose again. Game MVP is Sampson with 25 for 31, 278 and 2:0. He hit Middleton and Austin. Albert Hall had 20 carries, 136 yards and a score. Two more sacks from DE John Cook. Nickelback Eugene Houston gets a pick. Solymos will return next week.
Week 15 - 20-10 over the three win Lone Stars. CB Roderick Hatcher is Game Mvp and NFL DPotW with 2 picks and a RET TD. Dawkins has his 9th pick. Hall had 29 carries, 151 yards and no scores. A lot of minor injuries have been fixing themselves, so we are looking good for the playoffs.
Week 16 - 47-3 over the 4 win Bills. We are clearly in the creampuff part of the schedule. Maloney was 4 for 4. Game MVP is QB Sampson with 17 for 25, 216 and 2:0 ratio. Hall had a rush TD, his 14th. Hightower and Middleton each had TD grabs. Backup S Jorge Galvan got a pick. OG McWilliams with his 30th KRB. CB Quinn Vasilatos is doubtful with a broken foot. I bench him and will start Eugene Houston the next game.
Week 17 - The good news is that we crush the Titans 40-7. The bad news is that TE Maurice Sporzynski is out very long term with shoulder surgery. I IR him, and his stats have fallen. He won’t be starting for me next year. We have coverage on the team - Alfred Swann. Game MVP is Sampson with 12 of 18, 204, and 3 scores. Maloney knocks in 4 of 4. After being activated last week to cover for Quinn‘s injury as the dimeback, CB Randal Blackwell grabs a pick. Moe Austin caught two scores and Hightower got his 7th. Hall rushed for his 15h TD on the season.
13-3 for the season and the #2 seed behind the 14-2 Colts.

Team Stats:
8th most rush yards, middle of the road passing, 4th most yards per pass
4th fewest rush yards allowed, 6th fewest pass
+18 TO Margin, +17 sack margin (46 v 29)
A good year statistically. I had a very strong roster, and was able to absorb the rookie QB hit and still manage.
Individual Stats
QB Lenny Sampson, 260 of 421, 61.7%, 3473 yards, 23:10, 28 sacks, 96.1 Rating, 1 rush, TD, 4 fum and 1 rec
It started much worse, but Lenny had a great second half of the season and really learned on the job. For a rookie QB, this is a great statline. He wasn’t sacked as much as I feared, and he didn’t fumble a lot either. At first, his ratio was this: 5:8, but he settled down and only threw two more picks against 18 scores later.
RB Albert Hall, 351, 1519 yards, 4.3 avg, 15 TDs, 53 grabs, 600 yards, 2 scores, 5 fum and 1 rec
Another great year from the man. He was a safety valve for a QB learning as he went and a decent enough runner. His ypc dropped from 4.7 to 4.3, and I suspect that may be in part because defenses keyed off him rather than the passing game.
WR Donald Hightower, 55, 817, 7
WR Floyd Middleton, 53, 725, 6, 1 PR RET TD, 4th best PR Avg among qualifiers, 1 fumble
WR Moe Austin, 31, 308, 6 (3rd receiver for 9 games)
TE Maurice Sporzynski, 35, 557, 4 scores, 7 KRB, no sacks allowed
I thought Maurice’s statline was close to All Pro, so let me check out who got it for the TE position. The All Pro #1 guy had 4 scores, 628 yards, and 7 KRB. That’s better by yards, so he should get it, I agree. The 2nd team guy had 520 yards, 6 scores, 6 KRB. So Maurice was right in there. I agree that he shouldn’t have gotten the nod.
You have to expect these to be down for a year or two. Eventually Sampson will be at the 4400 yards and 32 TD level and these guys will see their production rise accordingly.
K Darrin Maloney, 41 of 46, long of 59, 49 off 49
P Bennie Bridges, the best PR Avg in the league
With a great returning year by Middleton, another amazing year for Maloney, and Bridges punting to form, I remain happy with my special teams.
DE John Cook, 13 sacks, 1 block, 10 hurries, (tied for 5th most QB hurries in league), tied with 2 people for 10th most sacks
Hello John Cook. In a year in which Solymos was injured, Cook stepped admirably into the Sack Master role.
LB Joseph James, 98 tackles, 30 assist, 3 sacks, 1 blk, 2 hur, 3 pasdef, 1 fumrec
LB Gene Rivas, 70 tack , 16 assist
LB Geoff Drake, 55 tack, 22 assist, 6 sacks, 1 blk, 2 hur, 7 pasdef
Hello good LB Corps. They are about to take over my defense in a year or two. You can feel it.
S Dean Dawkins, 9 picks, 1 ret TD, 10 pasdef
S RJ Baxter, 74 tackles, 15 assist, 5 picks, 1 ret TD, 11 pasdef
CB Roderick Hatcher, 5 picks, 3 ret TD, 6 pasdef
Good years by all of my professional secondary, but Quinn Vasilatos, it’s time to move on.
C Harvey Stone, 39 KRB, 6 sacks allowed
OG Calvin McWilliams, 30 and 6
OT Colin Hampton, 27 and 4
OT Rickey Forbes, 19 and 5
FB Ryan Garth, 9 KRB, 110 rushes for 343 yards, 4 scores, 12 catches for 132 yards.
Harvey Stone will likely be a fixture at C for me. McWilliams is proving himself. A down year for Scott and Hampton was close but not close enough. The Forbes start was a disappointment.

Team Awards:
Offensive Player of the Year: C Harvey Stone, In three years has 105 KRB and 13 sacks allowed. Two All Pros and came close his rookie year. He has been playing at a very high level, and it’s time to acknowledge that this 1(35) pick from Kansas State will be in the running for Next Player ot Sign a Professional Contract. Right now, it’s very early, but his career stats are on a HOF parabola, which is very rare for O Lineman to get . You really need 500 to insure it. That’s 100 every three years. Exactly his rate right now. Marty Brennan’s 515 is the career best. He played 15 years, and his pace averaged 103 every three years, and Stone is right there. I need a few 40+ years to make up for the eventual 20s we’ll get much later, but right now, you have to be pleased with Stone.
Defensive Player of the Year: DE John Cook. I love it when a player comes from out of the dark to become a force. Last year Cook started all 16 games and had only 6 sacks. This year he more than doubled his number and looks to be a force next year. He took a position of weakness and turned it into a strength.
Special Teams Player of the Year: WR Floyd Middleton , I’ve given lots of awards to Maloney and Bridges, and they both deserve it against his year, so instead, I’ll audible into a great returning year by Middleton. 4th best PR Avg? A TD and a low number of fumbles? That’s consistent and high quality.
Rookie of the Year: QB Lenny Sampson, This is not an automatic award, but Sampson totally deserved this. He outplayed my expectations, helmed a 13-3 regular season, and displayed a lot of maturity in setting aside the first few ugly games and focusing on the rest. He’ll be a great one.
Heart Award: WR Moe Austin, After being let go two years ago following a 1000 yard season, I brought back Austin twice after injuries to receivers in the middle of the season, and both times he’s done very well. I honestly feel that he’s been my good TE in quality, as a target for possession and reliability. He’s had 12 TDs and 778 yards as the 3rd receiver for 8 and 9 games in the last two seasons. Good job Moe! (To be fair, I’ve had to pay him 7 mill last year and 9 mill this one - he got his money)
Records:
Grady High added 13 more Tds to his career total 443. Marvin Graham’s three career stats that led all receiver lost out to two new guys - one with more receptions and another with more yards. His three season records still stand - 2008’s 142, 2112, 16. This year, Grady High moved into 2n place for most passing yards in a career, and one of only thee with 60k or more.

Another of my guys getting in! This is the one I mentioned earlier this season. I had just traded Joe before the season that I had my 19-0 team in Huntington.
Another of my players is in our Team HOF and will be Canton-bound. I have two coming, one this year and one from last year.
Retirees:
None from my team
TE Rick Rivers
OG Steve Coffey
My Head Coach’s skills have deteriorated, and considering how much I am paying, I want a new one.
Here is my guy:
Very Good - D Line, DB, Discipline, Y Talent, Off PC, Def PC - 6
Good - QB, WR, O Line, Av Inj - 4
Fair - RB, LB, K, Motivation - 4
He used to have a few excellent in there. He’s 65 and it looks like the beginning of a slide. Let’s see if I can find a better guy.
Here’s one:
Bob Dennison
Excellent - WR, Y Talent, Motivation, Av Inj
Very Good - K, O Line, Discipline
Good - Off PC, D Line, DB, QB
Fair - Def PC, RB, LB
He’s also 52
I have to pay a bit more for him to fight off other teams that want him, but for 30 mill a year, he’s my new HC. Our old guy gets hired by Baltimore for a pay raise.
Hey, I love a guy with Excellent Injury Avoidance.
I raise ticket prices, no franchise tag.

Players of Import in their Last Year:
OT Colin Hampton
OG Calvin McWilliams
C Harvey Stone
S RJ Baxter
FB Ryan Garth
TE Maurice Sporzynski
OT Rickey Forbes
CB Quinn Vasilatos
K Darrin Maloney
P Bennie Bridges
DT Alonzo Dasilva
And a bunch of dudes
One year more for Darrin and Bennie. Extension for Colin Hampton of three years. He has never cost me a full OT salary which is 25 mill ish a year, so I’m happy to keep him. After our agreement, he’s 16.16 mill this year. I also extend FB Ryan Garth by a year.
Two year extension for Calvin McWilliams. Harvey Stone doesn’t want a long term deal right now.
I trade CB Quinn Vasilatos and my 5(33) to the Broncos for their 1st (31). TE Sporzynski was traded to the Eagles for their 5th rounder next year.
I like DT Alonzo Dasilva, but he is demanding a trade. So…The Rams give me their 5th next year for him.
It’s time to move on from RJ Baxter, but I want to wait and see if I find a replacement first. I also have a question mark over OT and Rickey Forbes. I don’t have another option right now. Post-draft, or during-draft, I can look to move them, but not right now.
Time to draft!
Abe Sargent
09-14-2011, 05:44 PM
The 2049 NFL Amateur Draft
I need:
TE, RBx2, C, OG, OT, DEx2, DT, CBx2, Sx2
Of that group, I need starters in: TE, OT, DE, CB and hopefully S
I have 38 players on my roster, 80 mill cap room and 11 draft picks. That should basically round out my roster. If I can, a good back QB and WR would be nice. That’s a luxury though. I need 13 players and have 11 picks. Basic math should rule here. Remember, if I trade my OT and S, I’ll need an extra of each in the draft.
I’m looking at the draft, and I see my guy - TE Lincoln Woodson, the next big TE. I want him. I have no idea how highly he’ll be taken, but I want him. There’s another great QB at Sampson’s level, a virtually perfect FB, a few really great RB (but not NFL MVP level ones), there aren’t any massively great CB or S in here. Several great Lbs, a few great DE but no truly amazing ones (the best is 75, 73, 76), a truly strong OT (84, 88, 76), pure crap in the OG, C, CB, S and WR worlds. And my TE. Woodson is the 3rd highest rated player in the draft by future rating, and 10th by current. He will get picked up before my pick at 1/31.
The Bears are offering the 1/5 and some chump C for Roderick Hatcher. Basically, I could trade Hatcher for Lincoln Woodson. That’s very tempting.
Here is Hatcher’s statline:
78 starts - 26 picks, 34 pasdef, 7 int ret td, 1 All Pro year his rookie year, in 2044.
He’s not Leon Morabito or Jim Ackerman. However, he’s the only developed corner I have. On the other hand, I find great corners more than I find great TEs. How many good Corners have I let go through the years? Mercury Greene, Jimmie Rebensdorf, Jimmy Ordona, Jack Huntley, Rufus McGowan, Jesse Pirtle…the list goes on.
The problem is that this is not a good year for corners. It may be tough to find some. I also already made a hole at CB with the trade of Quinn.
Let’s do it.
I trade Roderick Hatcher to the Bears for their 1/5 and C Jonathan Taylor, a 7th year C with a low cap hit who will be my backup.
Now I can get my guy for sure. Even if Woodson goes 1-4, which is doubtful for a TE, I can take the OT or somebody else of high quality. Hell, if they are both gone, maybe I’ll take the amazing LB and move to a 3-4.
The draft has begun.
Austin trades their pick to San Antonio. They take the stud QB, Don Stokes, of The Citadel fame.
The next three picks are RB, DT, and RB.
I take Lincoln.
The 1/31 pick arrives and I’m confused. In my opinion, the best RB in the draft is still on the board. Kerry Tasker, of Illinois. Here are his pots: 85, 92, 78, 89, 54, 63, 72, 81, 57. The low numbers are catching, and the last is endurance. He is an All Pro level quality RB. That’s my BAP draft pick, if I wanted competition for Albert Hall.
WR Rusty Craig was the best one in the draft, and he’s still there.
For my roster, the best player is probably S Donald Woods, with his 95, 41, 100, 94 and 71 endurance. The low 41 man-to-man suggests we play a lot of zone, but he’s clear value.
CB Norman Nixon is good enough to draft and start comfortably.
DE Emmanuel Fickell is adequate as well.
Of this lot, probably none will be around for the 2/4 pick. Fickell is the best DE on the board, Craig the best WR, Tasker the best RB and Woods the best S and Nixon the 2nd best CB.
One possibility is to trade Albert Hall for a ton of stuff and draft and start Tasker. It’s ballsy. He is clearly the best player on the board. If I take anyone else, I am not getting the full value of the pick. Or, I could just draft Tasker as a backup RB and then trade when I need to later. To be fair, Albert Hall is 30. How many more years does he have at the top? 4? 5? It would be the smart decision.
Albert’s stats:
70
68
84
87
61
85
66
34
72
Tasker is 15 better at breakaway speed, potentially significantly better at short yardage, 6 worse at 3rd down, 2 better at ypc, 7 worse catching, 22 worse catch frequency, 6 better 3rd down catching, 47 more carrying, and 15 worse endurance. Overall Tasker is faster and more of a pounder with better hands, won’t be out there as much, and not as good of a receiver. Tasker is the better player. He is an upgrade over Hall.
This is one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to make in a long time. Tasker is All Pro quality and great. S Woods is a starter for me, CB Nixon need, DE Fickell need, and WR Craig is strong, but the least attractive.
To my mind, this is down to Tasker vs. Nixon.
Sigh. I take Tasker.
The next pick arrives and surprise. Nixon is still on the board (as is Craig and Fickell). I grab him.
I also have my eye on OT Chuck Durham and S Leonard Blair.
2/33 arrives and while Craig and Fickell are long gone, I can take either Durham or Blair. I go with Blair.
1/5 - TE Lincoln Woodson, Iowa, 4.8/8.1
1/31 - RB Kerry Tasker, Illinois, 3.4/6.0
2/4 - CB Norman Nixon, Stanford, 2.1/6.5
2/33 - S Leonard Blair, UNLV, 4.4/4.4
3/33 - OG John Horner, Vanderbilt, 2.6/5.4
4/33 - OT Terrell Meadows, Texas Tech, 2.8/4.1
5/8 - DT Teddy Albertson, Oklahoma State, 2.3/4.2
6/17 - QB Johnny McDonald, 2.3/3.9
6/33 - CB Stephen Fenner, Quincy, 2.4/2.8
7/17 - RB Charles Richardson, Syracuse, 2.3/3.4
7/22 - CB Dennis Addison, Addison University, 3.4/3.4
7/33 - QB Tito Myers, Houston, 3.0/3.4
I really like the two QBs I drafted over my current backups. They both suck.
The Lone Stars are not moving to Davenport, Iowa. Davenport is bigger these days than many other NFL cities at 2.85 mill.
Post draft moves:
UFA
DE Geoff Doering, Michigan State
DE Steven Bajorek, The Citadel
S Daryl McGregor, West Texas A&M
I want to trade Albert Hall now, but I suppose that I should hit camp first.

The 2049 Huntington Highlanders
QB Lenny Sampson - With every weapon possible, even much is expected in your second year
RB Kerry Tasker - A brand new, sexy, running back, fresh off the draft
FB Ryan Garth - Thee All Pros and a great presence on the team
TE Lincoln Woodson - Another amazing and quality weapon, ready to set records on fire
WR Donald Hightower - Awesome WR, not mostly developed - break out!
WR Floyd Middleton - Another very powerful WR to catch Sampson’s balls.
OT Colin Hampton - Pretty solid
OG Calvin McWilliams - With a professional contract, Calvin is entering his best years.
C Harvey Stone - Another rock as well
OG Lewis Scott - Injury hurt him, but now its time to settle down and get KRB for Tasker and Co.
OT Terrell Meadows - The rookie here is adequate at best, but we’ll play him
P Bennie Bridges - Always great
K Darrin Maloney - Ditto
DE Mo Stokes - More of a run stopper than a pass stopper.
DT Marvin Solymos - Still hot and sexy
DT Bo Casher - Pass rush specialist, and better than last year (hopefully)
DE John Cook - Can he repeat last year’s sack total? Can he better it?
WLB Geoff Drake - Getting better
MLB Joseph James - Also getting better
SLB Gene Rivas - And him too
CB Eugene Houston - A nickel back for a while moving into the starting position. Shouldn’t be a problem
CB Norman Nixon - Another secondary person with weak man-to-man but everything else should be ok
S Dean Dawkins - Will he retire a Highlander? 3 All Pros in the last four years.
S Leonard Blair - Here we go rookie, here we go!!
KR/PR Floyd Middleton, CB Winfred Brennan
I have everything needed for an explosive offense:
1/1 pick in QB
1/5 pick in TE
1/31 pick in RB
All Pro 3x FB
All Pro WR, 1/36
1/21 pick in WR
4 All Pro O Line
And one 4th round OT
In fact, in the last two years, I have invested a bunch of 1st rounders in my offense. I expect amazing things. (I have added 7 players with a 80 or higher future estimate in those 3 years)
Now, on defense, we’re a bit Bend not Break. We are clearly in a transition period and trying to find fixtures at various positions. The only professional contracts back there are Dawkins and Solymos. However, I have a great LB Corps that should hold the line well enough.

Team Stats:
3rd most rushing yards, The best passing offense by 600 yards, 9.4 yards per pass, 1.3 above the next team
The fewest rushing yards allowed, 2nd most passing yards allowed - yuck,
+1 TO Margin, +22 sack margin (57 vs. 35)
Wow, poor passing defense. We clearly did a lot of shoot outs.
Individual Stats:
QB Lenny Sampson, 318 of 479, 66.3%, 4639 yards, 37:14, 111.3 Rating, 32 sacks, 1 fumble
This is a career season for most guys, and it’s just the second one for Sampson. Sampson set the record for most passing yards in a single season (the previous high was Grady Highs 4604 yards in 2041). The QB rating is the second best. Tied for 4th most TDs in a season.
RB Kerry Tasker, 266, 1400 yards, 5.2 ypc, 21 scores; 150 rec yards and 1 rec td too, 7 fumbles
Not a bad season for Tasker. In another year, this may have been All Pro worthy. There’s no shame in 1400 yards, a 5+ ypc, rating and 20+ scores.
WR Donald Hightower, 90 catches, 1491 yards, 13 TDs, (3rd most receiving yards, the most rec TD)
WR Floyd Middleton, 80, 1372 yards, 11 scores (5th most rec yards, tied for 2nd most TD)
TE Lincoln Woodson, 55, 568 yards, 5 scores
WR Percy Stevenson, 55, 753, 5
When you have a record setting year with your QB, your receivers will benefit. With my great receivers, great TE, great FB, very good RB, and great QB, I have a sterling offense, and it showed.
K Darrin Maloney, 25 of 32, 64 of 64
P Bennie Bridges, 4h best PR
A good year for my offense and some of my defense, but my special teams was down a bit.
DE John Cook, 23.5 sacks (led league by 6), 1 block, 6 hurries
DT Marvin Solymos, 11 sacks, 2 and 7
Hello sack masters. Cook is in his third year as a starter. His stats have been 6 sacks, 2 blocks, 3 hurries; 13, 1, 10; and now 23.5, 1 and 6. He’s not that great from a skill set standing, but I’ll give him a chance to get another bout of awesome with us next year. He was at 23 with three games to go, and the season high is 25.5. He slowed just enough to not get the record.
LB Joseph James, 96, 29, 3.5 sacks, 2 pasdef
LB Gene Rivas, 86 tackles, 25 assists, 1 sack, 2 pasdef
LB Geoff Drake, 55, 18, 4 sacks; 7 pasdef
Again, getting better. I want to spend money to extend these guys. I‘m currently 80 mill under this year, but soon I’ll have to start keeping the pieces of my offense together, and when that happens, who knows how much $$$ I’ll have for LBs.
S Leonard Blair, 7 picks, 14 pasdef (the most in the league), 2 int ret td.
S Dean Dawkins, 4 picks, 8 pasdef, 1 int ret td
CB Norman Nixon, 4 and 5
CB Eugene Houston, 3 picks, 10 pasdef
Blair has an All Pro worthy season, but I understand no nod for it. I need more next year.
OG Lewis Scott, 36 KRB and 1 sack allowed
OG Calvin McWilliams, 33 and 5
C Harvey Stone, 26 and 6
OT Colin Hampton 25 and 7
OT Terrell Meadows, 17 and 14
FB Ryan Garth, 8 KRB, 326 rush yards and 3 rush TD, 195 receiving yards, 1 rec score.
There was a clear emphasis on the passing game this year. The KRO diminished. With that falls everything else. I don’t know if this was a one time thing or not. I guess we’ll see.

Team Awards:
Offensive Player of the Year: QB Lenny Sampson - If you set a record, you get an award. There’s no mistaking that. This season will be one of two things. It might be the bright shining season that a player has early, and can’t return to, or it will be just the beginning. What’s next? 4800 yards? 400 completions? 45 TDs? 120 QB Rating? I feel like I’m in the golden age of Highlander football.
Defensive Player of the Year: DE John Cook - I don’t like giving someone a back to back set of awards. In this case, Cook deserves it. One of the great sack-years we’ve had. Cook’s stats are 46/50 run D, 64/69 pass rush, and 20 endurance.
Special Teams Player of the Year: P Bennie Bridges - He still had a good year despite all of the down-ness in special teams. A good average, and a backbone of field position hear in and year out. He doens‘t kick as many punts as other punters due ot the nature of our offense, so he rarely gets the awards despite the skills and stats.
Rookie of the Year: S Leonard Blair - This was basically a three way match between Woodson, Tasker and Blair. Blair led the league in an important statistical category, passes defensed. That’s something interesting, and as such, he’s getting this award. In any other year, Tasker or Woodson would have easily gotten this prize.
Heart Award: LB Sean Powell - Backup guy who started three games due to injury. He had three sacks which betters starters on the D Line in Bo Casher and Mo Stokes. Powell is another of the key group of Lbs, as a backup of quality.
Records:
Grady High now has 463 Tds, the most in a career, and 66,064, the most passing yards in a career.
Jon Ackerman is no longer the holder of the most picks in a career, someone now has 99 this year.
We already discussed the Sampson career.

Free Agency, Yay!
Players in the last year, of import:
DT Marvin Solymos
LB Geoff Drake
S Dean Dawkins
FB Ryan Garth
DE John Cook
P Bennie Bridges
K Darrin Maloney
LB Sean Powell
WR Percy Stevenson
DT Bo Casher
CB Eugene Houston
8 backups of low to middle quality
I extend P Bridges by one year and K Maloney by two.
Ryan Garth is extended by two years.
I sign C Harvey Stone to a two year deal
I extend Geoff Drake’s contract by three years.
What to do with my old guys - Dean Dawkins and Marvin Solymos:
Marvin Solymos is 35 and just finished his 11th year in the league and an All Pro season. At this point, he probably won’t trade for much, and it’s probably worth keeping him on m roster, but his skills should start eroding soon. When will that happen?
S Dean Dawkins is in his 15th year and he’s 36. He has had 3 All Pros in the last five years. Without a replacement on the team, what about him?
Here’s what I’m thinking - let’s with until post draft to see what I find there. If I don’t find replacements, then we can extend them. If I do, then I can let them go.
I have 13 picks this year, but no 1st rounder.
I want to move some players, so let’s see what I can get:
This year’s draft doesn’t seem to have the quality of the last two years.
I trade DT Bo Casher to the Dolphins for their 3rd and 7th next year.
I trade LB Sean Powell and our 6th rounder (35) to the Panthers for my first round back 1(35). They didn’t have an LB on their roster, and Powell is quite solid. (Powell’s potentials are 64, 92, 73, 89 and 55 endurance)
Bo Casher can’t get a 5th rounder from the Colts, so I won’t trade him right now. The same is true of CB Houston.
I trade WR Percy Stevenson and next year’s 7th to the Lions for their 2nd next year.
Everything else looks fine, so let’s move to the Draft itself.

The 2050 NFL Amateur Draft
Positions of need:
RB, TE, WRx3, C, OTx2, DEx2, DT, LB, CB, Sx2
Starters: DE, OT, perhaps CB, S and DT
Here we go:
The 1/1 pick is QB Derrick Creekmur, Miami for Austin
Our pick arrives at the 1/35 position.
This is basically a two man race between DE Troy Boyer and his 74-72-61 potentials, and CB Broderick Enbysk with his 82-60-58-83-74 ones. Both can start, and neither will be super sexy. With problems last year in passing defense, I think I‘ve got to go Enbysk here.
DE Boyer is gone by the time my 2/35 pick arrives, but we have a lot of quality O and D linemen running around. I take the best OT on the board. After that I largely BAP the draft
I have several 3rd round picks, and here are the targets I’m eyeing: DT Eddie Florian, LB Ross Hopper, C Ralph Pascoe, WR Howard Slay, S Russell Welch,
1/35 - CB Broderick Enbysk, Oregon State, 4.6/4.6
2/35 - OT Desmond Lampkin, Cal-Northridge, 3.5/3.5
3/21 - S Russell Welch, Arizona State, 2.5/4.3
3/27 - DT Eddie Florian, Rutgers, 3.4/4.1
3/33 - LB Ross Hopper, Kansas State, 3.1/3.8
4/35 - WR Howard Slay, Amherst, 2.4/25
5/14 - C Ralph Pascoe, Louisville, 4.0/4.0
5/35 - WR Billy Fields, Tennessee, 3.0/3.0
6/24 - S Butch Gilmore, Iowa, 2.4/4.0
6/33 - RB Seth Marais, Utah State, 2.6/3.9
7/33 - TE Winfred Brill, Stanford, 2.7/3.7
7/35 - LB Seth Carlson, Pittsburgh, 2.0/3.6
After the draft, I have 49 players on my roster. I hit up the players and:
UFA DE Nate Broyles, Stanford; DE Marvin Robinson, Indiana; WR Tyrell Crawford, Texas; DT Roger Burgess, Tennessee
I extend Marvin Solymos, John Cook and Dean Dawkins by two years each.

Say hello to Camp!
I accept a trade offer from the Jets for their 3rd for CB Eugene Houston.
We sell out all 65k season tix.
I sign UFA CB Mike Jenkins.
The rook look:
CB Broderick Enbysk, 33/64
C Ralph Pascoe, 30/63 - A slight boom
S Russell Welch, 32/61
DT Eddie Florian, 31/61
OT Desmond Lampkin - 26/59
LB Ross Hopper, 11/52
TE Winfred Brill, 41/51
WR Billy Fields, 31/50
RB Seth Marais, 35/46
WR Howard Slay, 24/45
OT Billy Emerson, 18/43- A slight bust
S Butch Gilmore, 38/40
Overall, a very meh draft. This draft is more about surrounding my talent with enough bodies to do well.

As part of the 2050 celebration, I was asked to name my three favorite people in each position that I’ve ever GMed. Here they are:
Quarterback - Grady High had the stats, the skills and the magic. He was a wonder in a football uniform. After having drafted Jerome Allard with t he1/1 pick with San Antonio, I felt he wasn’t quite good enough, so we traded and started backup QB Tony Clements. I would acquire Tony with my next franchise, Albuquerque and then turn him into a star and a HOF QB. Ernest Mayes was not a draftee of mine, but he was one of the best I’ve worked with, and he was the dominant first QB of the Cleveland/Huntington franchise that led ot High and now Sampson.
Running Back - This is the hardest one. I have five obvious HOF Rbs in Heath Shepherd, Ralph Barrett Grady Pender, Jake Duffy and Albert Hall. Plus, let’s not forget team HOF guys in Troy Santoro, Maurice Carlisle and Aaron Witt. Of this list, I think I have to go with Pender, Duffy and Hall. Each of those were quite good, not only as runners, but as receivers. They would sometime shave 5 rec Tds, 100 yard rec days and even a 1000 yard rec season once. All of them had that extra level that you adored.
Fullback - Tracy Kramer, Ryan Garth and Ernie Kinney. I’ve had 5 Fbs with All Pro seasons, but Kramer and Garth are the only ones to have long term stints on my roster. I wanted to keep Kinney who was good and fresh off an All Pro season, but I didn’t; have the cash for a 1 million FB, so I let him go and drafted Ryan Garth . Yay Garth!
Tight End - Rick Rivers, Brant Carman, Ed Gardener - This is easy, because I’ve had three truly great ones. Woodson looks like the 4th. It won’t be long before they call Rivers’ name for Canton, I’m sure.
Wide Receiver - Marvin Graham, Jerome Baker, Donald Wagner. I remember what it was like to have two All Pro receivers on the Albuquerque team. For the first time in more than 30 years, I have it again with my Highlanders. Marvin Graham is the best WR of the era.
Offensive Tackle - Will Poston, Colin Hampton, and Tim Becker. Will and Colin were OT that were good enough to warrant the rare professional contract for an OT. Tim Becker was a signing from FA for my Richmond expansion tem that immediately came in, got two All Pros, and was a rock for a new team.
Offensive Guard - Bruce Holiday, Lewis Scott, Neil Lee - Each of these three gentleman were on my team for 10 or more years, and all had at least three All Pros - Holiday had a ton. I still think that Bruce should’ve been a HOF player.
Center - Marty Brennan, who has the career most KRB, Jesse Tate, a HOF C for my Richmond club, and Harvey Stone, who looks as spicy as they come. This is an easy choice.
Those who kick balls - Darrin Maloney, Olindo Mare, Claude Johnson - all HOF or will be.
Defensive End - Bert Curtain, the most overachieving HOFer ever, Brock Woods, HOF player to grace my team for a year, and Christian Torres, HOFer who was on my team for years. Only Curtain was one of my draftees.
Defensive Tackle - Ross Meadows was the first ever pick for Albuquerque, a fixture in season awards and HOFer. Marvin Solymos has been a long term player of quality for me. Stanley Allen was one of my first players of quality for Cleveland before the became the Highlanders. We relied on him for years.
Linebacker - Quinn Burroughs, Joe Martinez, Joseph James. Burroughs and Martinez are in the HOF, and Burroughs is the best LB I’ve ever had. James looks to be as good, but we need more tackles from him.
Cornerback - This is rough. Jim Ackerman and Leon Morabito belong here, but then? Mercury Greene? Bob Pearson? Jack Huntley? Jessie Pirtle? Rufus McGowan? I’m going to go with McGowan’s four All Pros. That’s a better resume than the other HOF Corners. (assuming Pearson is a HOF corner, he should be, but you never know)
Safety - Dean Dawkins, Eric Carlson, and Travis Westbrook. This is tough because Tyrone Rexin and Derek Long were very good choices as well. At the end of the day, I went with two HOF players I drafted and a third who will be on my current team.

RB Kerry Tasker - A very good year last year, does he have another level?

WR Donald Hightower - Incredible so far
WR Floyd Middleton - Two All Pro receivers baby!
OT Colin Hampton - Quite nice
OG Lewis Scott - How about 4
C Harvey Stone - Dropped a bit last year, but now I want to see him back to form
OG Calvin McWilliams - Who is a sexy beast?
OT Desmond Lampkin - An acceptable, but green starter
P Bennie Bridges
K Darrin Maloney
DE Mo Stokes - Weak
DT Marvin Solymos - Did not drop in camp, let’s see another great year.
DT Eddie Florian - What will the rookie do?
DE John Cook - I gave him an expensive professional contract, but I want to see another All Pro season
WLB Geoff Drake - In order to keep my threesome together, I upped the contract of Drake

CB Norman Nixon - Decent
CB Broderick Enbysk - Let’s go rookie
S Dean Dawkins - Anchor my secondary

PR/KR Floyd Middleton and CB Dennis Addison
Professional Contracts:
OT Colin Hampton, OG Calvin McWilliams, OG Lewis Scott, C Harvey Stone, P Bennie Brides, K Darrin Maloney, DT Marvin Solymos, DE John Cook, LB Geoff Drake, S Dean Dawkins

Week 6 - 28-23 gives us a happy victory! MVP Sampson has 17 for 29, 264 and 2. Woodson and Hightower catch those. Tasker now has 7 rushing scores. Mike Jenkins with a pick. Jenkins broke his hand. I toss him on IR> I sign CB Edgar Gillooly as a backup.

Hightower brings down 10 of those for 170 and 1. Middleton grabs 8 for 136 and 1. Blair with two picks. Billy Fields grabs his 5th TD pass of the season.

Team Stats:
4th most rushing yards, 2nd most passing, 8.6, best by 1.0 yards per play
7th fewest rushing yards allowed, the most passing yards allowed
+3 TO margin, -4 sack margin (35 vs. 39)
Other than rushing defense, this was an anemic year for out defense, and that accounted for fewer wins.
Individual Stats:
QB Lenny Sampson, 314 of 484, 64.8%, 4197, 32:12,103.9 Rating, 35 sacks, 1 rush TD , 4 fum & 2 rec
Compared to other Qbs , this is a great statline. Second most passing yards in a season, the most passing TD, Among qualifiers, the best Rating. To me, that sounds like 2nd team All Pro. Here’s the guy who got 2nd team - 66.4%, 3135 yards, 21:9, 95.4 Rating. Why did he get the awards? He was the Denver QB.
RB Kerry Tasker, 314, 1244 yards, 16 scores, 3.9 ypc; 1 rec TD, 6 fum
I can’t have a back with a 3.9 ypc. I tried to increase his ball carrying, the result was clearly not positive. Tasker hasn’t shown that next step level where he gets 1750 yards and 20 Tds.
WR Donald Hightower, 98, 1349, 13 scores (3rd most in each category)
WR Floyd Middleton, 70, 1165, 4, 1 PR RET TD, 1 KR RET TD, 1 fumble
TE Lincoln Woodson, 64, 844, 6.
WR Billy Fields, 27, 370, 5
And there’s the TE dominance I expect. Both Hightower and Middleton are getting me what I want. This is a great trio.
P Bennie Blades, 2nd best punt average in league
K Darrin Maloney, 23 of 31, 48of 50.
I had good return years and good punting. Middleton’s two retruns were great, and his PR Avg is 6th best in the league and KR avg is 4th best. He continues to show good hands.
DE John Cook, 10.5 sacks, 2 hurries
DT Marvin Solymos, 9.5, 4 blocks, 6 hurries
No one else has more than 3.5 sacks. Cook clearly dropped but Solymos was steady. No surprises here.
LB James Joseph, 105 tackles, 35 assist, 2.5 sacks, 2 hurries, 7 pasdef
LB Gene Rivas, 89 and 27, 1 pasdef
Remember that Geoff Drake was injured for much of this year. Not a bad season Mr. All Pro Joseph
S Dean Dawkins, 3 and 6 pasdef
S Leonard Blair, 6 and 6
CB Nixon, 2 and 5
CB Enbysk, 2 and 5
Wow.
OT Colin Hampton, 37 KRB, 5 sacks allowed
C Harvey Stone, 36 and 3
OG Calvin McWilliams, 27 and 1
OG Lewis Scott, 19 and 3
Great years by my non-Scott non-rookie guys. I need to look at moving Scott. He’s a bit too hot and cold for my tastes. Plus, he‘s 31 next year.
FB Ryan Garth, 7 KRB, 26 catches for 223 yards, 1 score; 133 rushes, 474 yards, 5 rush TD

In four years, Hightower has been All Pro three times. His 44 TDs is dangerous. Marvin Graham has the career record in receiving Tds with just 105. While his receiving yards and receptions totals have been bettered, this has not. Hightower is on a parabola to annihilate that.
The most picks is now 101. CB Jim Ackerman’s previous record was 90.
Hall of Fame:
WR Pete Waddle, from Kansas, 205 starts, 17 years, 935 catches for 13969 yard and 80 scores. 1 All Pro.
Another of my guys, making it in!
Retirements:

With a large public support for expansion, I suggest a 50/50 split of costs for a maximized stadium with capacity of 99,900. It’s a cost of 608 million, which we propose to split down the center.

Players leaving of note:
C Harvey Stone
OG Lewis Scott
OG Calvin McWilliams
P Bennie Bridges
DE Mo Stokes
WR Donald Hightower
LB Gene Rivas
OG Rico Johnson
OT Terrell Meadows
I extend Bridges for two years.
I have my draft picks back now, having traded away two futures for the 1/1. The draft seems a bit listless, like last year’s.
We give Hightower his first professional contract for four years. He’s earned it.
I extend OG Calvin McWilliams by two years.
I give Gene Rivas his first professional contract, and a two year deal.
What do I do with OG Scott?
I trade DE Mo Stokes to the Saints for their 3rd rounder next year, OG Rico Johnson to the Steelers for their 5th next year,
Stone won’t resign a long contract with me again - annoying. I want to wait on a Scott decision.

The 2051 NFL Amateur Draft
The first pick is Cris Lane, DT, Pittsburgh for Richmond
I need: QB, RBx2, FB?, TE, WR, OG, DEx3, DT, CBx2
Starters: DE, OT starter only, DT, perhaps OG, CB
My pick arrives. There is a mega good Grady Pender level RB on the board named Corwin Stokes. QB RJ Mitchell is much better than your normal backup. I’m not here for that today. I have had a need at DE for a while, and today, I’m fixing it.
After 2/10, the RB is still on the board, and 3 teams need a RB before I pick at 21. Do I trade up and take him. It’s ballsy, but that 3.9 ypc has scared me. Let’s look:
85 Breakaway Speed; 60/100 short yard;86 3rd dn run; 44/78 ypc; 78 catch; 28/48 ctch freq; 75 3rd dn catch; 100 carrying; 64 endurance
Compare to Tasker:
Same speed; Tasker is 83/92 short yard; 78 3rd down, 88/100 ypc, 52 catch., 56/65 freq, 65 3rd dn, 83 carrying. 54 endurance
Tasker will catch more often, but not be as good. 83 to 100 carrying, 100 to 78 ypc, 8 worse 3rd dn run, 10 worse endurance
Tasker shouldn’t have had a 3.9 season with his stats. That scares me. Tasker is better at ypc than this guy, however. Tasker barely catches the ball now, so the drop in catching is not likely to have much of an effect. I just feel like Tasker is Maurice Carlisle and I want Albert Hall, if that makes sense.
I make the call. I trade Albert Tasker to the Bills, who needed a starting RB and drafted at the 11 spot, for their 2nd this year, 6th this year, and 2nd next year. I take my man. One of the good things in this is that I extend the rookie contract of my starting RB, because I’m extending a lot of contracts right now, so I save the 25-30 million a year I would pay a top flight RB.
S Burt Strickland, QB Mitchell, OG Quinn Young, and a few others fancy me at 2/21. I take Mitchell.
After that, I find Young still on the radar at 33, and then I BAP and need the rest of the draft.
1/33 - DE Floyd McCullar, Arizona, 3.2/5.4
2/11 - RB Corwin Stokes, North C State, 3.3/5.6
2/21 - QB RJ Mitchell, Texas Christian, 3.7/5.1
2/33 - OG Quinn Young, Florida State, 2.9/2.9
3/8 - CB Andre Corsaire, Morehead State, 3.4/4.3
3/13 - RB Colin Newhart, Ohio State, 3.6/3.6
3/33 - TE Rodney Webb, Truman State, 3.0/4.8
4/33 - QB Lorenzo Durham, Mississippi State, 2.3/5.1
5/33 - DE Arnold Blackburn, North Texas, 2.0/2.2
6/9 - DT Bubba Cunningham, Sacred Heart (Conn), 4.0/4.0

Hello Training Camp!
The rook look, and we have good news:
DT Bubba Cunningham, 43/82 - BOOOOOOM
QB RJ Mitchell, 41/80 - slight boom, and a reliable backup for a while until traded
RB Corwin Stokes, 60/78 - No bust, yay.
DE Floyd McCullar - 37/71
OG Quinn Young, 33/65
QB Lorenzo Durham, 30/59
RB Colin Newhart, 55/57 - Drafted in case of bust of Stokes, pretty good
TE Rodney Webb, 34/56
DE Arnold Blackburn, 14/56
WR Cornell Graham, 26/51
FB Marco Austin, 46/46
CB Andre Corsarie, 29/45 - Bustish
Holy crap, Bubba! With a 1st round draft pick and boomed player, suddenly the two holes on D Line are full.
Denver sent me an interesting trade offer - their 1st for Colin Hampton. The smart move is to say yes. They are a great team, and I suspect it will be a 1/30 or so. Colin is in his 10th year and he’s 34 years old. Getting a 1st for him is crazy good, even a late round one.
The problem is simply that I don’t have good OT coverage.
I sign OT Jack Sutton to a one year contract
I accept the trade offer
We sold all 65k tickets
I trade my extra QB, McDonald to the Ravens for their 3rd in two years. I extend OG Lewis Scott by a year.

09-16-2011, 06:16 PM
Week 1 - 1929 was good year. It was also our score beating Dallas (29-19). Taking out one of the best teams in the NFC is nice first thing. In his first game, Corwin Stokes is Game MVP with 29 carries, 150 yards, and two scores. Hightower has 7 grabs for 114 yards. Garth rushed for a score. Dawkins and Nixon with picks. In his first game rookie DE Floyd McCullar has 1.5 sacks.
Week 2 - The Giants fall 34-9 but we have a couple of injuries to discuss. Both Geoff Drake and Desmond Lampkin are both out for roughly a month-ish. LB Hopper and OT Meadows will start until their return. Middleton catches the sole score. Stokes with a 3rd score. Dawkins gets a pick. DE Cook recovers a fumble for a score.
Week 3 - 24-17 over the Titans. Game MVP and NFL Defensive Player of the Week is Dean Dawkins with a triplet of interceptions and a fumble recover for a score. Enbysk and Nixon also got one. It was a pick-a-palooza. Solymos with two sacks. Stokes gets another score. Hightower grabs a score.
Week 4 -We edge out the Ravens 31-27. Game MVP was Sampson’s 17 for 27, 301 and 3. Woodson got one and Middleton the others. Stokes grabs the 5th TD on the ground. Nixon gets his 3rd pick.

Week 5 - We lose 20-23 to the Steelers. Stokes rushed for a score. Middleton and Fields with scores. OT Meadows is doubtful and gets benched for Lampkin. Scott is also banged a bit but will keep playing.
Week 6 - The Bengals fall 34-21. Sampson, MVP, 22 of 37, 295 and 2. Woodson and Hightower grabbed scores. Stokes is up to 8 rush TD. Welch and Dawkins get picks.
Week 7 - BYE
Week 8 - The Ravens beat us in OT 31-28.Stokes rushes for two scores, DE Eddie Florian gets a pick and a return for a score. LB Ross Hopper broke his nose. I bring back Geoff Drake a week early.
Week 9 - The Steelers again fall to us 38-7. Rar! RB Corwin Stokes, MVP, 18 for 177 yards. Sampson was 19 for 28, 215 and 3. Woodson and Hightower catch those. DT Cunningham is questionable, but he will play next week for sure.
Abe Sargent
09-16-2011, 07:26 PM
Week 10 - The Lone Stars take us down 31-35. Dawkins got a pick. WR Fields his 2nd TD on the season.
Week 11 - 31-3 over the Bengals, and Drake should be okay next week after a lingering wound. Sampson was MVP and had 21 for 30, 248 and 3. LB James rocked two sacks. Middleton caught both scores. Nixon got his 4th pick. We are tied with both the Ravens and Jaguars at 7-3 for the AFC Central.
Week 12 - the Titans are another lose to us, 37-13. Stokes has 22 carries, 100 yards and a score. Sampson is Game MVP and 20 for 39, 257 and 2. Sampson and Garth rush for scores. LB Joseph James has a pick and a return for a score. I have no injuries at all.
Week 13 - We continue dominance with a 30-7 win over the Redskins. Lincoln Woodson catches 9 balls for 132 yards. Sampson tossed 22 for 32, 330 and a score. Hightower got his 6th TD. Stokes his 14th rushing and Sampson rushed for one too. Stokes is injured.

Week 14 - With a tie in the division, we go into a vital game with the Jags. We win 27-20, and the Ravens lost, so we are no in first. Game MVP and NFL OPotW is Sampson’s 26 for 36, 309, 2 scores to Middleton. He has 8 now. Blair gets his 3rd pick. I’m playing RB Newhart while Stokes gets better.
Week 15 - 34-13 over the Broncos. Sampson, MVP, 27 of 35, 434, 4 scores. Middleton caught 10 for 180 and 2. WR Billy Fields grabbed the others. Dawkins has his 9th pick.
Week 16 - A 33-13 victory over the Colts looks eerily similar to last week’s score. Middleton gets his 10th score of the season. Blair rocked a 4th pick. Welch a second.
Week 17 - We win a shootout against the Jags 38-35. Sampson, MVP<, 23 for 36, 254 and 2. Middleton and Fields catch the scores. Newhart get a rushing score. Blair his 5th pick of the season is returned for a score.
13-3 and the #1 seed with a 12-4 Broncos at the 2 spot.

The 2051 NFL Super Bowl
Your AFC Champion #1 seed 13-3 AFC Central Champion Huntington Highlanders
vs.
Your NFC Champion #2 seed 11-5 NFC East Champion Dallas Cowboys
RB Stokes is fully healed. He will start.
The Game Log:
We start with the ball. 5 and out. 6 and out by Dallas. 9 plays results in a missed FG by Maloney (not again) of 36 yards. Dallas drives and gets a FG as the quarter ends 3-0 Dallas.
We go 7 and out. Dallas drives quickly and after two pass of 35 ad 2 yards, scores a TD. 10-0 Dallas. 7 pass plays gets us in FG range and Maloney misses wide left on a 46 yarder. Dallas goes 3 and out, and we get the ball. After a few plays, FB Ryan Garth opens a hole with aKRB and Stokes rushes 44 yards into the end zone. 10-7 Cowboys. Dallas tries a quick pass drive before the half ends, but Dawkins ends that with a pick with the ball on their 30. Offsides by Dallas bring sus ot their 25, and Sampson hits Hightower for a 25 yard score. 14-10 with 1:34 left. Dallas drives and kicks a FG. 14-13 at the half.
The 2nd half begins with a 3 and out by Dallas and us and another 3 and out to Dallas. They punt and we get the ball at our own 28. Sampson is sacked by a friend Ian Agrawell, for three yards. Then he hits Middleton for a 77 yard score! 21-13.
Dallas mans up and marches down field over the course of 15 plays, with a 3 yard plunge. They fail in a 2pt, and we are still ahead 21-19. End of the 3rd quarter.
We open the 4th with a mighty 3 and out. Dallas drives with 9 plays and misses their own FG from 31 yards. 8:04 left in the game. We have another 3 and out. After six plays, they kick and miss a 54 yard FG. The next play, Sampson hits Hightower for a 56 yard score. 28-19. 2:54 left in the game, and now up nine points.
After a few passes, Dawkins grabs another pick. 8 rushes later, we’ve won the game.
MVP Dean Dawkins
Sampson was 19 for 33, 313 yards and 3 scores.
Hightower 6, 136 and 2.

4th most rushing yards, 2nd most passing, 8.4 yards/pass, the best
Fewest rushing yards allowed, 5th most passing yards allowed
+9 TO Margin, +15 sack margin (27 vs. 42)
Another typical year from my guys
Individual Stats
QB Lenny Sampson, 320 of 490, 65.3%, 4233, 29:11, 102.8 Rating, 25 sacks, 3 rush TD, 6 fum, 2 rec
Another great year for the best QB in the league
RB Corwin Stokes, 245, 1291, 5.2 ypc, 16 td; he caught 1 pass for 16 yards (heheh)
Remembering that he was injured late, this is a good ypc, and a good rushing total. Not a bad year at all.
WR Floyd Middleton, 88, 1320, 11 scores
TE Lincoln Woodson, 77, 1060, 4 scores
WR Donald Hightower, 65, 866 and 6
WR Billy Fields, 60, 751, 6
Having a 1000+ season with my TE is really rare. Middleton shows he’s class. Good stuff!
P Bennie Blades, 2nd best average in league
K Darrin Maloney, 28 of 34, 54 of 54.
Nothing unusual here either.
DT Marvin Solymos, 12 sacks, 2 blocks, 8 hurries
DE Floyd McCullar, 10.5 sacks, 1 block, 6 hurries, pick for TD
DE John Cook, 9.5 sacks, 4 blocks, 3 hurries, 2 fum rec, 1 ret TD
Remember McCullar is green and a rookie. Solymos had another strong year, and the rest of my guys were solid enough. Cook is not a long term DE starter, he was just a one year wonder. When I can replace him, I will.
LB Joseph James, 109 tackles, 23 assists, 3 sacks, 2 hurries, 1 pick, ret TD, 16 pasdef (leads league)
LB Gene Rivas, 62, 23; 2 pasdef
Geoff Drake gets injured a lot. Perhaps it’s time to move him. James is someone I don’t want ot lose.
S Dean Dawkins, 9 picks, 8 Pasdef, 1 INT RET TD and one FR RET TD
S Leonard Blair, 5 picks, 6 pasdef, 1 int ret td
CB Norman Nixon, 4 and 12
CB Broderick Enbysk 3 and 7
Dawkins proves worthy once more. Blair just does enough to hold on but never enough to sell me. Nixon and Enbysk just don’t have the juice.
OG Scott Lewis, 34 KRB, 4 sacks
OG Calvin McWilliams, 29 and 4
C Harvey Stone, 26 and 2
FB Ryan Garth, 11 KRB, 132 rushes for 450 yards, 4 scores; 21 catches, 164 and 1
Everything you’d expect from these four. Harvey’s KRB level was a tad low, but otherwise we are at the level of expectation.

Team Awards:
Offensive Player of the Year: TE Lincoln Woodard - I’ve had just one 1000+ yard receiving season from a TE in the last 50 years. This warrants a team award. Lincoln has three All Pros in his first three years. Worth the 1/5 pick? I’d say so…
Defensive Player of the Year: S Dean Dawkins - Super Bowl MVP and another All Pro. Dean is aging and yet he isn’t any slower on the field than anyone else is. Dawkins gets everything done. This may be his last year in the league, and going out on a big note is a key of the best players.
Special Teams Player of the Year: P Bennie Blades - A down year for returners, and Maloney misses to Super Bowl Fgs in very makeable range, so Blades continuing dominance of the punts gives him this award again. Even if its by default, he does deserve it. Thanks Bennie!
Rookie of the Year: RB Corwin Stokes - With a great ypc and a strong showing, Stokes has allowed the fans to forget about a certain someone named Tasker who could be found here in this spot last year. It’s a bit obvious award for the lad, I know, but it works and it makes sense. Good job Stokes!
Heart Award: WR Billy Fields - A backup WR with as many catches and TDs as the All Pro WR three out of the last four years, that’s crazy. My 3rd WR just don’t do as well as Fields has done. His year was quite incredible and we all owe him a debt of gratitude.

Free Agency:
The Bears offer me their 1/4 and some scrub for DT Bubba Cunningham. Do I take the offer? What is available? Do I have the money for it? I could take a variety of players there. I do have to make a decision with Cunningham - offer him a professional contract which jumps my cap by 17 mill, or trade him?AS a 6th rounder he only signed two years.
I make the trade.
Players in the last year:
QB Lenny Sampson
LB James Joseph
DE John Cook
DT Marvin Solymos
OG Scott Lewis
WR Floyd Middleton
FB Ryan Garth
S Dean Dawkins
CB Norman Nixon
S Leonard Blair
K Darrin Maloney
8 backups
I have some salary needs. Plus C Stone is franchised - he’s not costing me anything.
I only have 47 million in cap room. Sampson, for his professional contract, will have his price jump roughly 30 million.
Ryan Garth, Harvey Stone and LB James won’t sign more than a one year deal.
I trade DE John Cook to the Rail Runners for their 3rd and 6th in three years.
I trade LB Geoff Drake to the Pats for their 2nd and 3rd rounders next year.
I now have 90 mill. Time to extend Sampson’s contract. We’ll pay him 240 mill over four years.
What do I do with my vets - Solymos, Scott, Maloney, and Dawkins? I spend money to extend all of their deals.
I give Floyd Middleton a full time deal for 3 more years.
We now have 46 million.
What about Leonard Blair and Norman Nixon?
I make a weird deal with the Bears. I send them both Nixon and Blair for CB Roderick Hatcher and their 7(4) pick this year.
That should fix me at one of the positions I traded away.
I can’t even get a 6th for C Ralph Pascoe, so I don’t trade him. None of the other backups are good enough for a trade.
I have 53 million but I haven’t signed Stone yet.
I need to make some cash, so I:
Extend TE Woodson by a year and reduce this year by 3 million. This means that Woodson is, technically on a pro contact now.
I have 55 mill, and it will take roughly 16 to sign C Stone. Here’s my issues:
Stone won’t sign more than a one years deal, LB James the same and FB Garth the same. That means next year I can franchise one and I have to fight for the other two. Of that group, which is the most important to me? LB Joseph James. I have the 1/4, 1/34 and 1/36 this year. Here are my current roster needs, starter-wise
DE, DT, OT. Those are the essentials. Ideally, I could use a new S, a new CB, a starting LB.
What I could do is something bad. Something I have not done in a while. I have 13 picks, I could trade my 1st rounders for future picks, and thus reduce my draft cost this year to a much more manageable level. Then I could sign C Stone, compete next year financially for Garth and Stone while I franchise LB James, and make the big drafts then. Where is my money going then? QB Sampson’s cap hit will drop to 51 mill. This frees up room.
Here are my professional contracts:
QB Lenny Sampson, 56 million
DT Marvin Solymos, 21.8 mill
WR Floyd Middleton - 21.6 mill
WR Donald Hightower - 20.45 mill
TE Lincoln Woodson - 17.3
OG Lewis Scott, 16.5
LB Gene Rivas, 15.6
S Dean Dawkins - 13.9
OG Calvin McWilliams - 13.28
FB Ryan Garth - 7.9
K Darrin Maloney - 5.6
P Bennie Bridges - 4.34
CB Roderick Hatcher 3.06
Rookies of size:
LB Joseph James, 19.8 mill
CB Broderick Enbysk, 10.71
DE Floyd McCullar, 8.73
Alright, it’s time to make a decision I don’t want to make. I need to get rid of a least one professional contract. He won’t resign, he’s being ornery, so:
I cut FB Ryan Garth
I can’t even get this year’s 7/34 from a team that needs a FB. This frees up 5 million.
There is a reason I usually don’t keep FBs around for a long time - when I’m paying a QB and RB top dollar money, there’s not always a lot of money floating around/
The guess is that I’ll need 50 mill to sign my rookies. I need to clear up some space, so I make a big trade.
QB RJ Mitchell is great quality. Starter level actually. I invested a 2nd rounder in him to get a god, long term backup for Sampson. He’s cap hit right now is more than 5 mill. If I move him, and sign a cheap rookie, then I clear up some space and still have Lorenzo Durham as the primary backup.
I try to trade him, but the teams are telling me that they want someone who will be of more immediate impact for their team. Feh. It was a good option too.
I could just let Stone go. Or I could sign and trade him. I could just draft, and see where I stand after it.
I just look at Free Agency, and there is a great C, who just wants 13 million this year, and is at least as good as Stone. Stone is being difficult, this is the second time, and as much as I’d like to keep him, he is causing this problem, not me.
Alright, let’s keep him tagged for now.
Near the end of FA I manage to talk Stone into a year 11 million deal. I do it, that’s much more reasonable.
Let’s go drafting

The 2052 NFL Amateur Draft
Our needs: RB, FB?, OG, OTx2, DEx2, DTx2, LBx2, CBx2, S
Starters: OT, DE, DT, LB, perhaps CB, S, FB
I’m also comfortable taking extra players with backups that I’m paying 2.5 mill too: RB, TE, WRx2, S, C
Chicago take QB Morris Page, of Montana, with the first pick - an OT and RB go, and we have the 4th pick. Who to grab?
Stud RB Ricky Huntley? He makes Stokes look like a chump, as a stud runner and catcher. S Jeffrey Peters? LB Teddy Liakos? Stud DT Zach Amador (40/84 run D, 35/82 pass D, 86 end)? CB Jeremy Manning?
One of the reasons that I traded into this pick was financial. I had this guy for just two years, he was a mega boom, and a contract would be very expensive without seeing production. It’s also been my experience that players who boom may not play up to their new skill set. Gus Arellano got between 10.5-12.0 sacks every year save one he got 14, despite the fact that skill set wise, he should have been raking them in. Other boom players, like CB Jimmy Ordona, perform similarly. They play much better than their original skill set, but not nearly as good as the one I see either. I don’t want to pay professional starter money for DT (expensive) for a guy who didn’t have a great season last year as an admittedly green rookie when I need to pay others and haven’t seen him deliver.
However, taking Zach Amador is different. He’s more developed and more well-rounded than DT Bubba Cunningham. If I take Amador, I essentially traded Bubba for Zach. Bubba was a 6th rounder last year, so that’s okay.
The BAP here is Ricky Huntley, then Amador, Peters, Manning and Liakos at the end. I easily remove Liakos from contention. I could trade Stokes, take Huntley, and I would have traded Cunningham for an upgraded RB and whatever I can get for Stokes (which should be a lot, I think). I thought it was worth doing last year with Tasker, but Tasker had come off a rough 3.9 ypc year. Just for fun, I call up the Buccaneers and see what they would offer for Stokes. I can’t even get a 2nd rounder. I would be trading Cunningham for a 3rd and probably a lower pick too, like 6th or 7th.and then an upgraded RB. This guy would be a force in the passing game. I just don’t think that’s enough. I traded Tasker for two 2nds and a 6th. I’m not sniffing that with Stokes. That makes the deal much less desirable. With Liakos and Manning removed from contention, I am left with Amador and Peters. That’s no decision. Say hello to my new stud DT. This has been a hole for ages, and I’m filling it.
I want to follow the draft slowly, to see which of my targets goes when. By the end of the Top 10, none of the others have went. I’m confident that Zach would have, if I hadn’t taken him. Peters goes pick 11. No one else has gone by 1/20. Then 1/25. Then 1/29. Will Manning fall? Three teams between them and us need CB, Manning is at the top of both lists (current and potential) and one o f the teams, Albuquerque, has no CB on their roster at all. I make a decision. I trade CB Broderick Enbysk, and my 2nd and 5th for Albuquerque’s 1(30). I take Manning.
Manning falls 26, and I was really hoping he’s be there for me. Huntley goes 32. At 1.34, but Huntley and Liakos are there. I grab Liakos. At the 1.36 spot, Huntley is looking very good. Here are the others I like:
WR Colin Franz, C Peter Nastasi, WR Spencer Nichols. The best S is Jessie Clemons. Nastasi is the best C on the board both ways. He’ll go soon. Clemons is the best S by current stats. I need a S starter. I do not need a WR or C. Clemons fits my roster, is the last good S on the draft, and makes people happy. Franz is really strong, Nastasi won’t disappoint and Huntley is brokenly good. I resign myself to grabbing the player that suits my team. Sigh.
At 2/12, my sole pick in the 2nd after trading up, Franz and Huntley are still on the table. Are you kidding me? Well, they won’t be for long. Here is Franz - 22/64, 78, 29/87, 70, 100, 100. That’s a great receiver here. The likelihood that either will be sitting here at 3.24, when my next pick arrives is non-existent. I would shit in my pants if either Franz or Huntley even makes it out of 2. I get one more shot at these guys, and then we’re done. At this point, either is a luxury pick. I need an OT, but they all suck for the 2/12 pick. I need a DE but they all suck for right now. I am not picking a FB this high. That leaves Huntley or Franz. My roster actually needs a RB, but not a WR. Franz would be a lights out 3rd option.
Corwin Stokes vs. Ricky Huntley
82 Breakaway for both
66/100 vs. 26/77 short
87 vs. 81 3rd down run
50/89 vs. 28/90 ypc
75 vs. 93 catching
31/50 vs. 38/96 catch freq
76 vs. 96 3rd down catch
100 vs. 81 carrying
64 vs. 58 endurance
Stokes is better at short yardage and slightly better at 3rd down running, carrying and endurance. Huntley is much better at catching, catch frequency and 3rd down catching. Is exchanging 23 short yardsages, 6 3rd down r, 19 carrying and 6 endurance worth the 18 catching, 46 freq and 20 3rd down catching gains? Huntley will have those great receiving games, but right now, I don’t need that. Right now, I have Hightower, Middleton and Woodson. Where is the need for a receiving back as well?
On the other hand, what role will Franz play? Yeah, he’s a great WR that falls later than he should’ve, but he’s just a 3rd dude on my team. Either of these guys would be great backups and good trade fodder later. I’ve passed Huntley by too many times. I grab him.
At 2/27, Franz is still available. He will go soon, and the price to trade up and get him is getting low. I trade my 5.5 and RB Seth Marais to the Jaguars and take Franz. Then I start BAP and need drafting.
Players I Like OT BJ Pomeranz, DE Dwayne Sies, and FB Matt Malinowski
1.4 - DT Zach Amador, Wake Forest, 4.4/7.7
1.30 - CB Jeremy Manning, Ouachita, 5.1/6.5
1.34 - LB Teddy Liakos, Mississippi State, 4.5/5.4
1.36 - S Jessie Clemons, Illinois, 4.7/5.5
2.12 - RB Rickey Huntley, Arkansas, 5.0/5.0
2.27 - WR Colin Franz, West Virginia, 5.3/5.3
3.24 - FB Matt Malinowski, Virginia, 5.1/5.3
3.36 - OT BJ Pomeranz, Eastern Michigan, 3.5/3.5
4.46 - DE Dwayne Sies, Kansas, 2.0/3.9
6.36 - DT Lance Robbins, Southern Methodist, 2.0/3.6
7.4 - OG Levon Gardner, Texas Tech, 2.9/4.5
7.36 - S Howard Summers, Illinois, 2.8/3.5
I need to clear out some cash.
I trade WR Howard Slay to the Eagles for their 6th rounder in 54. I trade S Butch Gilmore to them for the 7th that year. I cut TE Rodney Webb. WR Billy Fields to the Giants for their 3rd and 6th. S Russell Welch to the Bills for their 7th.
UFAs:
DE Roy Kelley, Ohio State
TE Tyrus Heeson, Mississippi State
WR Alvin Daniels, South Carolina
S Louie Linquist, Illinois
LB Korey Adkins, Duke
I need more players, but I want to hit up camp first, and see what’ up with my rookies.
Abe Sargent

The Camp:
We sold all of our tix
The Rook Look:
LB Teddy Liakos, 43/90 - A bit of a boom
DT Zach Amador, 48/78
RB Ricky Huntley, 53/76
CB Jeremy Manning, 50/72
WR Colin Franz, 51/72
S Jessie Clemons, 39/66
S Howard Summers, 46/65
OT BJ Pomeranz, 26/62
DE Dwayne Sies, 14/61
DT Lance Robbins, 20/57
FB Matt Malinkowski, 24/56 - a bust-ish
OG Levon Gardner, 24/39 - Ick
I have been offered a trade, and it gives me a way out. Someone is giving me their 1st for OG McWilliams. I love Calvin, but a 1st round pick from the Chargers? I make the trade.
I now have 12 million I room, and I don’t have to keep cutting and trading people.
I sign, rookies
OT Lorenzo Sanford, Kentucky
OG Kelvin Martinez, Eastern Michigan
CB Andre Kirk, South Carolina
CB Desmond Adkins, Stanford
RB Lewis Llewellyn, Howard
I have 5 million left for injuries.
Wait. Ryan Garth is still in the FA pool after not being signed. I could sign him for 3 mill, cut Matt, and just spend 1 mill for the upgrade. I have the money for a one year with him, but no doing. Since I cut him earlier in the ff season, he doesn't want to come back. Stupid.

The 2052 Huntington Highlanders
QB Lenny Sampson - There’s no question about him
RB Corwin Stokes - With Huntley pushing for a starter role, but green, Stokes will start.
FB Marco Austin - I wanted this to be Malinowski, but he busted a bit, so I reduced our use of the FB
TE Lincoln Woodson - There’s no question about him either
WR Donald Hightower - Nasty
WR Floyd Middleton - Nasty, Jr
OT Desmond Lampkin - Not good, but at least should be a good run blocker
OG Lewis Scott -The man, the legend
C Harvey Stone - Is this his last year for us?
OG Quinn Young - A pretty good substitute starter, and developed
OT BJ Pomeranz - The rookie starts
P Bennie Bridges
K Darrin Maloney
DE Arnold Blackburn - Just a temp
DT Marvin Solymos - Fresh off yet another All Pro season
DT Zach Amador - From him whom much is given…
DE Floyd McCullar - Let’s build off last year
WLB Teddy Liakos - Amazingly green, but with very good potential
MLB Joseph James - Will be franchise tagged next year
SLB Gene Rivas - Solid and sexy
CB Roderick Hatcher - He returns. We needed help at corner, so I traded for it…
CB Jeremy Manning - …and I drafted it
S Dean Dawkins - 17th year in the league. For years, I’ve speculated that each would be his last.
S Jessie Clemons - Not good run D, but really strong pass D
PR/KR Floyd Middleton, nickel back CB Andre Corsarie, WR Cornell Graham
We haven’t looked at Jessie and Jeremy, so let’s do that:
Jeremy - 29/88 run d, 25/71 man to man, 37/100 zone, 78 picks, 66 endurance
Jessie - 23/59, 35/89, 35/86, 70, 61
You can see why I traded up late in the 1st for Jeremy. This was a good off-season. I’ve been hurting for corners and D Line for a while. I now have a great DT, two new/old corners, and a better safety than Leonard Blair.

This is a fantastic read.
I remember following this dynasty probably a year ago now and I got up to date with it yesterday.
I hope there's more to come from the Huntignton Highlanders.
I was so inspired that I delved back into single player in between MP sims and set up a fantasy league and full draft and simmed my way through a season just for the hell of it. :)
I'm thinking of using the current game file and choosing a team that might be ripe for relocation given that I don't have a copy of the game that allows expansion.
Anyway... Keep it up. It's great reading! :)

I just screwed up badly.
I picked up this dynasty and played three more seasons and wrote it up. Good stuff here! I want to ensure that I stick with it before I continue. I was in the draft of the 2060 year, with picks near th eback of each round.
When I went to pick, I had a hugely talented caste of awesome characters to draft from, it was the most talented back of teh first round I have ever seen. I took my favorite player of the bunch, and I will be traidng a ton of picks ot move up and get a bunch more players. I am going to ,make my team from this draft. I hit resume draft like normal, not thinking, and it sims to my next pick, mid 2nd round, and I go, whoops! I exit and go to load. In 2001, the load and save buttons are very close together, and there is no confirmation when you hit save, so I accidentally hit save and save the draft at the middle of the 2nd round rather than loading it from before my draft - my last save. So I lost my plac.e My previous save was the end of the last season from another save, so I lost out on all of that talent, and I cna;t go back. I am so pissed off I can barely stand it, so who knows if I keep going this iteration. I'll get you the write ups up to this point though. Who knows if I'll have it ready by then or not. I'm steaming mad!!!

About the Cities. The NFL and America, 50 years later.
Today we begin to look back at American history the past 50 years, ad to look at how the cities have changed. In particular, we want to observe how the NFL has changed several places. Who would have thought, 50 years ago, what changes were in store.
The first major change to the American landscape was the California Earthquake of 2011. Afterwards, many businesses in the LA area left, including entertainment business, and relocated to places like Vegas and Vancouver. While the rest of America was largely growing ,California began to lose population. A great California Emigration occurred that rivals the Immigration that ensued for decades. Today, LA and the surrounding area is still the largest city in the state, but it is sitting at 5.58 mill in the metro area - a big crash. Meanwhile, other cities are not where people predicted them - Sacramento’s 7 county metro area is one mill, and others are dwindling. A state that many thought would get more NFL franchises has instead clung mercilessly to the three it had. Oakland is down is 1.45 mill, San Francisco, 1.16 and San Diego is sitting at 1.63.Remember, these are numbers for the whole metro area.
America has undergone a second major urbanization project as inventions loomed. Large Hydroponic Greenhouses have provided nearby healthy food and the discovery of the new alloy Bluesteel © by the Hansbrook Consortium with double the strength of normal steel has enabled buildings to be built even higher and still study. Just like the Green Revolution 100 years ago enabled more people to live comfortably, because more food was made, increasing developments in the making of food have enabled America’s population to skyrocket. Most people moved to the classic places in the Atlantic coast and Mid West, Texas and the hot west (like Vegas and Phoenix). The South lost people, since its cities didn’t have the infrastructure to build these new mega-opolises around. The east coast metropolis stretches from Boson down to New York and continuing to Baltimore and Phily and New Jersey and into DC and down the coast into North Carolina - and that’s where it ends.
These developments have led to New York’s growth, rather than decline. Today, the city and metro area stand at 250 million, the 5th largest city in the world. What NFL franchises have the largest metro population? Here are the top ten:
Jets/Giants - 251 mill
Cowboys 94 mill
Eagles - 89 mill
Warriors - 74 mill
Bears - 60 mill
Cardinals - 56 mill
Ravens - 47.5 mill
Vikings - 47 mill
Rams - 37 mill
Of the expansion teams, San Antonio sits at 29 mill, Richmond 16 mill, Corpus Christi - 5.75 mill, Austin 20 mill and Albuquerque 10.5 mill. What 10 NFL franchises are in the smallest metro area?
Green Bay - 420k
Jacksonville - 620k
Tennessee - 830k
New Orleans - 930k
Carolina - 940k
San Francisco - 1.16 mill
Tampa Bay - 1.38 mill
Denver - 1.48 mill
Oakland - 1.5 mill
San Diego, 1.63 mill
(we have the 12th smallest in Huntington with 2.1 mill)
The reason a lot of NFL franchises have not moved is that the league wants geographical representation. The largest city in the south with an NFL franchise is Atlanta, with 2.3 mill. The cities without franchises are huge, but outside the South and Cali. Here are the 10 biggest metro areas without an NFL Franchise:
Houston - 86 mill (Texas has NFL teams in Corpus Christi, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas)
New Brunswick - 36 mill
Newark - 32 mill
Las Vegas - 26 mill
Norfolk - 23 mill
Raleigh - 20 mill
Oklahoma City - 18 mill
Grand Rapids - 17.5 mill
Greensboro - 15 mill
Tucson - 12.6 mill
Most of these places are close by others. Newark and New Brunswick NJ are right by the NY teams, Norfolk, Raleigh and Greensboro are right by the Panthers and Warriors. Of these, Vegas is the obvious expansion or relocation target.

DT Ross Dixon is out with a dislocated shoulder. We place him on IR, and sign backup DT Luther Dickson, a ufa, from New Mexico.
I am just shocked by the lack of production on my defense, and we’ll look at this later. As of right now, this 8-2 team had collected a mighty five picks, and no one has more than one. Our sacks are okay, but in small numbers. One here, a half there a so forth. No one is exploding, but DE McCullar has 10 after ten games - a fair amount.
Week 12 - We defeat the two win Titans 34-10. After scolding my defense, rookie CB Jernigan is mvp with a pick and a sack. Other picks by S Pietraszak, Raymond follow. Prescott grabs another pair of sacks. Kirby rushes 21 times for 137 yards and a score. Backup RB Schwartz gets a rush TD as well. Sampson was 15 of 22 for 181, 2:0 and hit Hightower and Middleton for scores. We have seven probable injuries after that game, but none to any significant players and I massage a few backups onto and off the active squad to cover.
Week 13 - On the road, we manage a victory over the Cowboys 24-17. SS Raymond is Mvp with a pick. S Pietraszak after gabbed a pick. 4 KRB by Garner. A Pedestrian day for Sampson saw him toss the ball 25 times, hitting 15, for 2:1 and nailed Hightower for both scores. Kirby rushed for a score and 73 yards on 24 rushes. DT Dickson is questionable with a foot injury, but we will keep playing him.
Abe Sargent

Week 14 - We win our Jacksonville game 28-21. Hightower is MVP with a two point conversion, 144 yards and both TD scores of Sampson’s. FB Whiting had a ground score. OG Scott rocked 4 KRB. DT Dickson is now out for the rest of the season.
Week 15 - We defeat the 9 win Lone Stars 38-24. Sampson is Game MVP and NFL OPotW. 23 of 31, 325, 3). Kirby was 24 for 142 rushing yards and a rush TD. Meske had two scores, and Middleton 114 yards while Hightowe rgot the other score and 94 yards. Pick by Jernigan. LB Lonnie McKenzie recovered a fumble and returned it for a score.
Week 16 - The three win Jets defeat us 34-17. Kirby held to 53 yards, Sampson picked twice, 2.5 sacks by DE McCullar,
Week 17 - The final game. We lose in OT to the 8-8 Jaguars 28-31. Rookie LB JJ Monroe is doubtful with a broken finger. Kirby had 12 carries, 59 yards and a score. Sampson was 15 of 21, 2:0 with 196 yards with TD passes to Kirby and Hightower.

Stats:
RB Omar Kirby, 277 rushes, 1262 yards, 4.5 ypc, 12 rush TD, 1 rec TD
Not a bad year for a temporary measure until the next great RB comes across my desk
QB Lenny Sampson, 325 of 501, 64.8%, 4254 yards, 43:8 ratio, 113.4 rating. 503 rush yards, 89 carries, 5.5 ypc, 2 rush TD, 4 fumbles, 36 sacks.
Once again, just a sterling season, with nothing to complain about at all.
WR Floyd Middleton, 102 catches, 1387 yards, 9 TD
Are you ready for this next one?
WR Donald Hightower, 94 catches, 1316 yards, 25 TD catches
WR Chester Meske, 44, 669, 5
TE Lincoln Woodson, 45. 576, 3
How does a WR with 25 TD not get all pro? Because there are only four spots, and we had players with 13 TD and 1800 yards, 1750 yards and 16 TD, and two with 12 td each and 1680 or 1690 yards. His yards were too low. Middleton and Hightower were 5th and 6th in receiving yards. For the first time, ever, one of my favorite receiver’s records of all time has fallen. In 2008, a feisty Marvin Graham had 142 catches, 2114 yards, and 16 rec Tds, a mark which has been equaled, but never broken until this season, when TWO receivers did it. Clearly, a mistake was made in not giving him an All Pro nod, that would never happen.
Not a bad year for Woodson but a bit off his norm.
Kenny Raymond with 2 KR TD.
K CJ Schroeder 17 of 25 FG, 64/64 PAT
P Benjamin Carpenter, 75 punts, 41.8 punt avg, 28in 20.
The rookie was okay, the new older kicker was okay, and the KR was awesome.
Defense:
LB Joseph James, 133 total tackles, 1.5 sack, 1 pick, 9 pas def
DE Floyd McCullar, 13.5 sacks, 6 blocks, 7 hurries
DT Jason Prescott, 9 sacks, 1 block, 7 hurries
No one else had any sacks worth mentioning or interesting tackle numbers. I invested heavily in my defensive line and I did not get the results I expect. DT Prescott looks great, McCullar is fine, but seriously - where were my other lads?
Pass Coverage
S Randall Raymond, 3 picks, 8 pasdef
S Claude P, 2 and 6
CB Darryl Jernigan, 2 and 5
CB Jeremy Manning, 1 and 5
That is just horrible. I have players of severe importance, and that is the best they can do. Awful.
C Lance Lennon, 27 KRB, 2 sacks allowed
OG Shane Garner, 26KRB, 7 sacks allowed
OG Lewis Scott, 23 KRB, 6 sacks allowed
OT Bobby Clark, 18 and 7
OT Dustin Brewer, 18 and 4
For Lewis Scott to make the HOF, he needs better numbers in the zenith of his career than this. He now has 441 KRB, and he needs just a little bit more after an All Pro season last year. He had a few down seasons, 2048 with just 12 KRB and 2050 with just 19. If he returns for another year, I think it will help a lot. I invested a good pick and a lot of hope on Garner, and I want to see improvement, but this is a fine rookie season. I want a bit more from Lennon, but we rushed fewer times this year with Kirby back there.

Team Awards:
Offensive Player of the Year - WR Donald Hightower. With 128 Tds, he has the most in any career, and with 25 this year he has the most of any season, These records deserve serious recognition in our team awards.
Defensive Player of the Year - DT Jason Prescott - I invested a high pick, lots of money and high expectations into Prescott and he finally delivered. I want 8-12 sacks and other forms of penetration from my starting DT annually, and he delivered. Good job.
Special Teams Player of the Year: KR Kenny Raymond, in a year with down performances from my new kickers, he did not disappoint and would have won in any year. Gave us two scores and good field position all year long.
Rookie of the Year Award - OG Shane Garner. I had a lot of starts and disappointing performances, but Garner was not one of them, and quickly gave me reason to support his draft pick and faith. May he continue to do so for years to come!
Heart Award - DE Gerald Burks - Moved to the bench after new highly touted rookie Jose Fulcher replaced him, he grabbed 5 sacks spelling other players and had the 3rd most sacks on my team - good stuff Burks.

Team Stats
5th most rush yards, 4th most pass yards
4th fewest rush yards allowed, 2nd most pass yards allowed
+4 TO margin, 23 to 19, +14 sack margin, 50 to 36.
Not a good year for our club defensively. 2nd worst passing defense is not acceptable. Wee had the 3rd highest yards per pass as well, so it just wasn;t teams throwing on us because we were up a lot. We won a lot of our games close, with just three or four blowouts- not our usual mo.

Retirees - none of ours, and none of note
Players out of contract - TE Lincoln Woodson, S Randall Raymond
It was my intention going into this year to franchise Woodson but in his 10th year, off a down season, with cap issues, perhaps it’s time to let him go. I do not franchise him

now it’s time.
I am considering jumping ship. I have made Huntington WV into the NFL location. I have guided into into the dynasty of dynasties. But now, it’s time. I have a lot of older players who are HOF bound like Sampson, Hightower, Middleton, hopefully Lewis Scott, Woodson, and who knows with others. My youth are okay and the team has a lot of momentum. It’s time to build a new dynasty.
I want:
A good team a horrible roster, bad stadium to move out of, poor record, and has the potential to relocate to a new city, so I can take advantage of the wealthy territory in the nation.
Every team save Richmond will take me. Duh, I’m awesome.
I have had stints at:
Lone Stars, Rail Runners, Rattlesnakes, and now the Browns/Highlanders. It’s time to move on
Here’s my new team
3rd worst stadium
Tied for worst support (0)
Roster ranked 33, for 9th worst
The lowest franchise value in the NFL
5th lowest attendance in 2057 with 47.1% stadium capacity
Just one Hall of fame player drafted in the last 50+ yeras
7th worst record over last 50-some odd years with 426-499-3.
Appeared in playoffs 15 times, and actually showed up at four Super Bowls and won 2, but that was a long time ago, when everything was cracking for them
Say hello to…

Tampa Bay!
We have 28 active players and just 1 million in room under the cap out of 417 mill
We’ll look more closely later, but for now
We made 294 million last year, but lost 209 million the year before. A stadium proposal was recently rejected, so I can try to move to a new city. My choice is Las Vegas. Vegas has 28.2 mill in the metro area, an average income of 166k, 39% poverty level, 86th percentile desire for team, 90th for trend, but 95th for competition. It’s a great choice for relocation.
A middle of the road, with Indoor/Sparkle BioGrass is chosen, due to the heat of the game at times. We select 75k capacity, 12k club seats, 100 luxury boxes and 40 Virtual reality boxes. We offer to pay half. We can upgrade it later. I don’t want to lose out on a sweet location because I shot for the moon.
Head Coach - Ian Cox, 1 year left, 55 years old, 19.29 mill, Very Good in RB, WR, Oline, D Line, LB, Motivation, Discipline, Good in QB, K, Y. Talent, Fair at Offensive Play Call, Poor at Secondary, Def Play Call and Injury Avoidance. He’s a developer of talent, but not a manager of it.
Lead Scout - Charles Gray, 5 years, 54, 2.09 mill annually. Excellent in O Line and RB, Very Good in Y Talent, D Line, QB, Good at LB, DB, K and Fair at WR. He’s ok and alright for now.

Roster:
We have under contract:
2 QB
4 RB
1 FB
1 TE
4 WR
2 OG
3 OT
K
2 DE
1 DT
2 LB
3 CB
2 S
Since we have huge cap issues, I take a look at my players, from highest cap hit to lowest.
They had the 1/1 pick last year, and their drafted DE Kennedy Bourne is just 33/50 in run d, 28/66 in pass d and 52 in endurance. They had the 1/23 pick last year too and took QB Richie Bento, who is only a backup caliber QB, and could be outdistances by the occasional UFA. It’s crappy drafting like this that got them in this mess. I’m going to clean it up.
I move to the offseason free agency period
Abe Sargent
10-26-2012, 10:02 AM
Players I like:
WR Pat Donovan, 14th overall pick four years ago, solid stuff
DE KC Gladney - olde,r in his 11th year, has two all pro seasons, expensive but still quality
DT Spencer Caldwell, older, 7th year, expensive, but solid for now
OT Clause Welch, older, in 11th year, but solid.
S Oscar Adams, in 9th year, is okay and will suffice for now
TE Alan Kennedy - also okay
Cuts -
RB Danny Vargas
CB Randy Biccum
OT Claude Southrey
RB Herb Buckner
OT Bryant Rhodes
CB Sedrick Yost
LB Christian Boone
FB KC Owen
S Jessie Mueller
Denver offers their 2nd round and a RB for my QB, who sucks, so I accept.
I’ve been letting go a lot of older players. Not of high quality, getting paid too much salary.
Trades:
RB Sherman Kerr to Raiders for Oakland’s 7th rounder
WR Geno Sato to Cyberhawks for their 5th rounder

Down to 17 players on the roster, and cleared up 197 million under the cap. We just have the 1/13 pick this year, so not much hope for a light out player.
I make an offer to FA TE Lincoln Woodson, S Everett Welch and C Korey Knieval, three of my draftees that are good and loose. I also offer to P Ross Von Hagel. I have an RFA who’s not bad, but this guy is money.
Needs - starting QB, RB, FB, TE-ish, WR, OT, OG, C, P, DT, LBx2, CBx2, S
I take a look at the draft to see if I can find good starting QB or if I’m forced to grab someone from the FA market. There are two good QB - Zack Miney is okay and Floyd Sheppard is a great prospect. I doubt either is falling to us, so I make an offer to a FA and star QB Myron Evans, in his 19th season, been NFL MVP twice in 49 and 50, won Super Bowls, and so forth.
Okay, that’s it, five targets for my team.
Our Punter signs after the first week. I up my offers on a few players we are outbid by other teams. Nothing in week 3, and I massage my offer to Woodson. In week 4 , C Knievel signs with us, and my QB heads elsewhere. Everett Welch heads to San Diego. I had a better offer. Ah well.
I make an offer to QB Anthony Dorman, 17 year vet. He signs the following week. We sign Lincoln Woodson three weeks later, week 8. I missed on Everett but hit on everyone else I cared about - P, Knievel and Woodson.
Abe Sargent

New roster starters I trust:
QB Anthony Dorman
TE Lincoln Woodson
WR Pat Donovan
C Korey Knievel
OG Howie Flander
OT Claude Welch
P Ross Von Hagel
K Alonzo Bruce
DE KC Gladney
DE Kennedy Bourne
DT Spencer Caldwell
S Oscar Adams
I move TE Alan Kennedy, who’s okay for a starter, to the Chiefs for their 5th this year
Alright, draft time
The Titans missed on getting their QB for they make me an offer for Anthony Dorman, for a 3rd rounder and some chump TE. I say no.

The 2058 Amateur Draft
I’m basically picking BAP since I have so many holes on my board.
Shepherd went at 1.4; Mincey went 1.8 as expected neither are here for our pick.
Okay, our pick has arrived. Is there a homerun here?
Holy crap there is. DT Brenden Pierce. 29/98 run d, 35/100 pass, and 79 endurance. That’s hot. I need another DT, but the problem is I have a good D Line save for one DT spot, and I can cover for a weak DT on that line, so it’s not a high priority. Is there a homerun somewhere else, such as CB, LB or RB? You often find those fall to 13. Then best potential LB is Allen Hernandez. He’s not bad. I would likely take him if Pierce was not here - his potentials are 91, 74, 89 and 51, with 56 endurance. For a team with no starting caliber backs, that’s a good choice. But Pierce is there! I have to take Bap and grab Pierce.
TE Marc Copeland is someone I want to look at later, but not here.
Anyway, our pick in the 2.13 rolls here. We also have the 24th pick this round. Copeland went. Players that intrigue me here include OG Bruce Mittleman, OG Bo Arthur, CB Curtis Lewis is okay, CB Everett Schultz the same, S Lionel Porter is adequate. The BAP is actually DE Juan Suder, but can’t afford to take him. I grab CB Lewis and OG Bo Arthur is there at the 24th selection, so I take him then.
3rd round is here. Do I take S Lionel Porter? There are three legit backup Qbs for my squad that I enjoy too. FB KC Blackburn is nice. But I have a guy I have a feeling about. I think CB Reggie Fuller might be a sleeper, and even if he’s not, he’s a tremendous talent at the KR/PR game and had huge interceptions at 66. He has 10 run D, 16 man to man and 3 zone d. I want to take a shot at him, but I also want Porter for my S spot. Both seem like they are about to go, Porter is 3.5 current and 5.3 total, and second S on the board by current quality, and 5th by potential. CB Fuller looks high by current as well. Who do I take? Both appeal to me strongly. I go with Fuller now, and slow down the sim speed. The S ahead of Porter goes a few picks later, and I make an offer to trade up but I don’t have the ammo, and it falls short. He is taken by Indy near the end of the round, and I miss out on Porter.
So who do I take in the 4? I like RB Glenn Moe. The backup Qbs of quality are still here. The top FB is still on the board as well. I take KC Blackburn. He’s the best player on the board and at his position. I won’t have to worry about that position for a while.
The 5th arrives, and with it three picks at the 13 ,15 and 16 spots. Moe is still here so I grab him. WR Archie Held is okay. S Buddy Kelllum is a clone of Reggie Fuller in many ways (but I’m not thinking boom). The backup Qbs are all there, I take my choice of the good Qbs now. Who knows if they’ll still be there in the 6. Finally, I take WR Held.
The 6th round is here. I grab S Kellum. Now my two 7s arrive. I take WR Everett Perez and LB Robert Harvey.
Draft Recap
1.13 - DT Brendan Pierce, Livingstone
2.13 - CB Curtis Lewis, Cincinnati
2.24 - OG Bo Arthur, Oklahoma State
3.13 - CB Reggie Fuller, Maryland
4.13 - FB K.C. Blackburn, Louisiana Tech
5.13 - RB Glenn Moe, Massachusetts
5.15 - QB Clay Gomez, Georgia Tech
5.16 - WR Archie Held, Florida
6.13 - S Buddy Kellum, Washington State
7.9 - WR Everett Perez, Clemson
7.13 - LB Robert Harvey, Rhode Island
Let’s hope that we have the foundation of a future team here.

Okay, I’m ready to head for training camp and see what I have before making offers to some free agents for my team
3 trade offers, let’s see. I reject an offer for Brenden Pierce, one for Pat Donovan and one for KC Gladney for a 3rd rounder intrigues me. let’s take a look at my roster and rookies. Unfortunately, no major booms, sad. But, my major guys held serve. Let’s look at the rookies:
DT Brenden Pierce, 32/98
CB Curtis Lewis, 23/85
WR Everett Perez, 19/69
S Tito Artis, 24/68 - UFA
OG Bo Arthur, 24/66
FB KC Blackburn, 20/60
QB Clay Gomez, 16/45
S Buddy Kellum, 32/32
RB Glenn Moe, 30/30
WR Archie Held, 25/25
CB Reggie Fuller, 24/24
LB Robert Harvey, 20/21
Fuller didn’t boom, but I signed an UFA who can do as well hopefully and Porter would have done in his place and I keep a great retruner on my roster.
I cut K Omar Woodard. I signed some players:
OT Roger Lira, drafted in the 3rd round by me four years ago and let go as a RFA. He signs for a year. As does LB Wesley Southard, also drafted in the 3rd that year by me and LB Bill Martinez, drafted that year in the 2nd round by me. .
OT Winfred Landdeck was drafted in the 3rd round this year but cut, and I sign him.
Two other draftees of mine from that year are here and tempt me. RB Mitchell Winslett is here, but he’s not that good, he’s flalenin quality. OG Byron Quinn is here, but he’s basically a one year patch who
‘sbetter than one of my guys, but why psuh it?
I cut OT Blake Sayre, Christian Anderson and LB Michael Luce
Ah, why not, I sign OG Quinn and cut OG Larry Kinney

The 2058 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
QB Anthony Dorman - Just an old patch
RB Ray Peacock - Better than Winslett, but that’s not saying too much. Just a temporary body
FB KC Blackburn - Settled in my FB postion for the next three years
TE Lincoln Woodson - A great player who can get us yards
WR Pat Donovan - A very high quality WR for us
WR Everett Perez - The best of the rest

OG Bo Arthur - The rookie starts
C Korey Kneivel - One of our signings to start for a long term
OG Byron Quinn - Another patch from Huntington

P Ross Von Hagel - A good solid P
K Alonzo Bruce - I’ve always wanted to sya this, Allons-Y, Alonzo!
DE KC Gladney - Not that hot for 11 years in the league? Think again!
DE Kennedy Bourne - The sophomore dropped in value, and I wish I had taken that strong BAP great DE in the 2nd round now.
DT Spencer Caldwell - 7th year, solid player, but low in endurance.
DT Brenden Pierce _ To him whom much is given, much is expected
LB Bill Martinez - Another Huntington refugee for a year for me
LB Wesley Southard - Will start for me as well
LB Calvin White -The 7th rounder last year starts due to no competiion for the spot at all
CB Reggie Fuller - Get me picks - that;’s the only thing you re good at
CB Curtis Lewis - Green, bu tcna develop nicely into a good coverage corner, but not good at the picks
S Oscar Adams - Sufficent player already on the roster
S Tito Artis - Yes, we are starting a UFA.
KR/PR WR Pat Donovan, CB Reggie Fuller and S Buddy Kellum
Alright, I’m predicting a low record, how about 5-11?

He hit Mikkor for a score. Peacock and Gonzalez had rushing scores. We missed a PAT and then missed a 2 pon conversaion later to make up for it. 5 KRB by Welch and 3 by Lira
Week 8 - We lose to the Bears 14-10. They had another pick returned for a score. Peacock held to 17 yards rushing, we pulled Dorman for Gomez, and both had picks. Artis had a pick for our side.

For a very old guy with a brand new team, that’s not too bad as a place holder for whoever will be next.

Again, not a bad mark while spelling folks and waiting for the next big one

Team Awards:
Offensive Player of the Year - WR Pat Donovan - Hed his own, caught a lot of passes for scores and yards despite a QB with low stats, and looked good all year long. Thanks Pat!
Defensive Player of the Year - S Oscar Adams - A guy who was supposed to just get me ot the next guy instead hasd the best season with 80 solo tackles, and tons of passes defensed and led my team in picks. Nicely done sir!
Special Teams Player of the Year - P Ross Von Hagel - When you lead the league in an important statistical category, t’s hard to deny you your spot here. Thanks!
Rookie of the Year - OG Bo Arthur - Had a very fine year starting for us, and I expect more of the same next year. He has good potential!
Heart Award - S Tito Artis - Startiung as a UFA, Artis held his own in a weak secondary and a team that allowed a ton of passing yards. Sure, we’ll go for more polished players later, but he played his heart out for us, and that;s what this award is all about.

OG Byron Quinn
DE KC Gladney
LB Bill Martinez
LB Wesley Southard

RFAs of note - K Alonzo Bruce, S Tito Artis, WR Mikkor,
Players in last year of contract of note:
DT Spencer Caldwell
OT Claude Welch
RB Ray Peacock
WR Pat Donovan
S Oscar Adams
WR Everett Welch
Do I franchise or not? And who?
Gladney is entering his 12th year, time to let him go. None of the others entice me enough for a Tag. Actually, now that I look at the players, I decide to Tag Lira. Okay, let’s move to the free agency era.

2 trade offers arrive - one for Brenden Pierce and the other for QB Richie Benton for the Warriors’ 1st/10 this year. That I take. We draft 11th in the first round, so I have the 10 and 11 pick. That’s good stuff.
Alright, let’s look at my roster and make some changes to folks
I extend WR Pat Donovan for four years. He’s my guy, no question. S Oscar Adams is entering his 10th year, but he had a strong season. I extend him three years total, so two more years.
For now, I’m not touching 12 year vet OT Claude Welch, RB Ray Peacock, DT Spencer Caldwell or Ogs Damon Duffy or Howie Flanders. I think I can move some, or keep some, but I want to see what I can get first
We have 26 players under contract and 143 mill in space - does not include Roger Lira
I offer contracts to these UFAs
LB Joseph James
OG Lewis Scott
I can’t believe the GM over at Huntington. He let C Lance Lennon hit free agency? Is he crazy? I wish I hadn’t made a play for Knievel now. It might be time to let James go, and I’m sad to see Lewis Scott considered surplus, so I’m makign a polay for him, to give him a start. But Lennon? That’s crazy talk!
Do I need to sign a QB in FA?
Wow, this is a very weak Qb class, I don’t even see a legit starter, let alone a great player. I need to sign one now
I have Woodson, Donovan and a good o line. Let’s find a good QB now.
The only legit player is 15 year vet Corwin Kinney. I make an offer. If I get James, Scott and Kinney, this is a good off season.
Week 2 - There is a ton of competition for the man, Lewis Scott. I bump my bid. I am the only one bidding for James. Lots of compeition for Kinney as well. My poffer is outbid by 25 million by some teams. I massage my offe,r but I feel that this is going to be a loss.
Week 3 - I get Kinney. He chose me over other options that paid more. Maybe its because I have the structure for success now offensively. I’ve got a good O Line, a good WR and Woodson, a future HOF TE on my team.
Week 7 - We sign James. Scott is still out there.
Week 9 - I sign Scott
Abe Sargent
10-26-2012, 08:26 PM
Okay, time for some trades
I trade OG Howie Flanders and OG Damon Duffy for Bears 3rd and 7th this year (number 35 in the rounds) and Duffy has no interest, so I cut him instead.
I’m actively looking to replace people in their last year - RB Roy Peacock, OT Clauude Welch, DT Spencer Caldwell
I’m particularly looking to pull Caldwell, because he’s costy and not super hot. With Pierce in there, I’m not sure it’s needed. I want to let go 1st round draftee DE Kennedy Bourne in his third year, but I need something at DE to sell me on it first.
No one signed Byron Quinn, or LB Martinez or Southard. The Lbs aren’t good enough but I thought Quinn might go. He Didn’t which surprises me. I’m waiting until post-draft to sign Lira. I want to see if I get lucky with a stud OT or anything, or what my financial situation looks like. Signing the top QB in the FA takes a lot of dough.
Let’s draft baby!

10-26-2012, 08:52 PM
The 2059 NFL Amateur Draft
The 1st pick is OG Otis Lucas, from Maryland, to the Titans.
Our picks arrivee. Off the board are 2 RB, CB, 3 LB, OG, DE and OT. We have the 10th and 11th picks. Who are my men?
The best player might be DT John Reuter, with 21/86, 31/100 and 53 stats. But can my roster really afford o invest two high picks in DT right now?
RB Russel Tumbleson is a good guy who can start for a while, but won’t be my Barrett, Shpehred, Hall guy, but he’ll be a rock. Expect 1400 rushing yards a season and some good TD numbers.
LB Richie Conzelman is a need pick with potentials of 80, 84, 85, 80 and 44 endurance. If that endurance were higher, he’d be an easy pickup for me.
Of those that went, LB McFarlane is a gift, because his current stats are all in the 60s or 70s and his pots in the 80s or 91 for one. He was taken already. The next had huge potentials, three of 100. So Conzelman is the 3rd best, but he’s still quality. One LB was not good enough to take, and Conzelman was better.
Fact - two of the best players on the board fit areas of need - I take both RB Tumbleson and LB Conzelman
Round 2 arrives. There are no great starters here. Sometimes you’ll get a WR, S, RB, TE, to fall to this spot. Not this year. The best is DE Nolan Cooper, with 22/76, 23/66 and 32 endurance. That’s a low endurance. DT JR Pierce is similar, 72, 74 and 35 his pots. You might be able to stretch CB Tyrone Fann or S Ricky Comella into starters. OG Joel Thomas is pretty solid, but I’m set at that position. I take Cooper. Comella is still on the board at 3 and I take him.
At the back of the 3rd, I like LB Archie Long, who is very developed already. I grab a good backup TE in Donovan Kleaver in the 4th. In the 5th, backup OG Dana Mueller falls to us. Then backup LB Thurman Wright, DE Robbie Cornwell, and CB Norm Naylor
Draft Recap
1.10 - RB Russell Tumbleson, Texas, 5.3/5.3
1.11 - LB Richie Conzelman, North Carolina, 4.8/7.2
2.11 - DE Nolan Cooper, Washington, 2.9/4.6
3.11 - S Ricky Comella, Oklahoma, 3.5/3.5
3.35 - LB Archie Lone, Florida, 2.5/4.9
4.11 - TE Donovan Kleaver, Duke, 3.8/4.2
5.11 - OG Dana Mueller, Stanford, 2.2/4.5
6.11 - LB Thurman Wright, Indiana, 2.1/4.6
7.11 - DE Robbie Cornwell, Washington, 2.0/2.2
7.35 - CB Norm Naylor, Bemidji State, 2.1/2.1

I sign more UFA:
S Hardy Buford, Navy -
S Charles Bone, Purdue .
RB JT Erickson, San Diego State

So the boom giveth and the bust taketh away.
I sign UFA:
RB Kenneth Marshall, Memphis
CB Daryl Newman, Cal
I look for others. Everett Welch has been let go, do I need him? Nah, he’s busted a bit. I have Buford and the old guy. My LB buddies, Martinez and Southard are still out there, as is Quinn. We’re fine.

I’m really tempted to move my bad DE Kennedy Bourne for the 2nd rounder I am offered and sing the FA amazing DE as a one year patch. Let’s do it. We get the Falcons pick and I grab DE Scott Glen for my team. He moves my DE corp to 4th best. Yeah, it’s worth it.
Preseason!
We finish preseason 2-2. We have nno major injuries to startrers, but probable to OT Welch and DE Cornwell. Backup DE Hudson is questionable with a hyper extended knee and will play.

Injury to backup CB Naylor, with a stretched knee ligament - he will play. Good week folks!

Tumbleson was MVP, 123 yards on 23 runs, 1 score. Kinney hit Beatty and Bronson for scores. Pick b Naylor. 4 KRB y Welch, 3 by Scott, Lira.
Okay, gotta make decisions about my roster for next year. Do I extend anyone?
Lira? Welch? Caldwell? I extend Lira by towo years, and will let the older men go.

The 2059 NFL Super Bowl
Your #1 Seed AFC Chmapion 13-3 Huntington Highlanders
vs.
Your #2 Seed NFC Champion 12-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Here we go!
MVP is Donald Hightower. They win 29-17. Donovan scores off a pass in the 1st. They get three field goals in the 2nd quarter and its 9-7 at the half. A Lenny Sampson run gives them a score, and then Tumbleson answwers for us. We stop them , and then score a FG and its 17-16 us going into the 4th quarter. Then They have a run by a newer player named Gino hawkins for a score, and no conversion. Finally, they score and get the PAT off Hightower and win.
Tumbleson had a great game, 22 carries, 149 yards and a score. Kinney was 17 of 27, 214 and 1:1. Donovan caught 75 yards and a score, and Woodson 89 yards. 5 KRB by Lira, 4 by OG Lewis Scott.
That was an unexpected season.

Stats:
QB Corwin Kinney, 277 of 475, 58.3%, 3595 yards, 21:10 ration, 88.1 rating, 26 sacks., 2 rush TD, 4 fumbles, 500 rush yards, 96 rushes, 5.2 ypc
Not a bad season at all. His one weakness is too many incompletions. That’s a low completion %. If he just hit some check downs, who knows what this would have been like. Good rushing though.
RB Russel Tumbleson, 289 carries, 4.1 ypc, 1211 yards, 20 scores.
That’s a lot of Tds. Low ypc, what is that? Otherwise, this is a very nice year. Next year he’ll develop and we’ll have a good plan.
WR Pat Donovan, 93 grabs, 1361 yards, 10 scores
TE Linvcoln Woodson, 57 for 646 and 2
WR Everett Perez, 13 starts, 48 for 542, 6
Donovan certainly had All Pro numbers, This was his first all pro season. I’m disappointed Woodson did not get All pro, because he had good numbers, low TD but very high yardage. No TE had more receiving yards this year in the league. Good stuff!
Nothing major in returns, no great average or scores
K Alonzo Bruce, 27 of 36, 37 of 40 Pat.
P Ross Von Hagel, 1 of 2 FG, 2 of 2 PAT, 84 punts, 43.8 avg, 38 in 20
How do you miss three PAT? Injury in agmae forced Von Hagel to kick. 5th best Pavg in league, 2nd most punts inside 20. Yet no All Pro nod for Von Hagel.
LB James Joseph, 122 tackles, 1 sack, 1 block, 5 pasdef, 1 fumrec
LB Archie Long, 98 tackes, 4 sacks, 3 pas def
LB Richie Conzelman, 81 tackles, 3 pas def, 1 fum rec
Joseph ‘s game has diminished. He used ot get 10 pasdef and moe tackles and such, but he’s still my best LB by far. Long was fine, Conzelman disappointing considering his draft pick, but he’s also very green.,
DE Scott Glen, 21.5 sacks, 4 blocks, 11 hurries
DT Brenden Pierce, 9.5 sacks, 4 blocks
DE Nolan Cooper, 5.5 sacks, 1 block, 3 hurries
DT Spencer Caldwell, 3.5 sacks, 1 and 2
Pierce stpped up nicely, wow was putting in Glen the right move, and Copper is green but alright. Caldwell is time to go.
S Oscar Adams, 7 picks, 5 pasdef
S Hardy Buford, 6 picks, 8 pasdef
CB Dominic Vaughn, 3 and 6
CB Curtis Lewis, 1 and 7
For a while, I thought Adams was bound for an All Pro season, but he slowed down in the last six games. Our little gem of an UFA also looked very nice, but my corners? Dear God in heaven…
C Korey Knievel, 30 KRB, 3 sacks allowed
OT Claude Welch, 22 adnd 6
OT Roger Lira, 18 and 5
OG Bo Arthur, 18 and 1
OG Lewis Scott, 18 and 4
While not great years for most, Knievel was fine and the others okay. Arthur did not rise in KRB as I hoped, but I’m not upset with a one sack season for the lad. That’s nice.

Team Stats:
12th most rush yards, 13th most pass yards
3rd fewest rush yards allowed, 7th fewest passing
+6 is TO margin - 26 to 20, +24 in sack margin - 51 to 27.
Good stats here, you can’t argue. A few more picks fro my corners would be essentially nice, but otherwise, not bad, but my offense has room to grow.

Team Awards:
Offensive Player of theYear: WR Pat Donovan - When I came in, he was the hot ticket item, and he has not disappointed, and after getting a pro contract, he rewards with his first all pro seaason. He is hot stuff right now.
Defensive Player of the Year: DE Scott Glen - A one year patch that was hot proved it with scintillating sack numbers. It’s downright rare I see players on my team with that sort of numbers. Nicely done!
Special Teams Player of the Year - P Ross Von Hagel - Top three in two major statistical categories for punters is very relevant to my interests. This was a down season for K (miss three Pat) and returns, but not here and not with Von Hagel. Well done!
Rookie of the Year - S Hardy Buford - To come in off the street as a UFA, start, and have really strong numbers means a lot to my team, and he wins this award. I almost gave it to a certain RB, but he didn’t domiante as I wanted, and this guy did powerfully well for his rookie season.
Heart Award - WR Myron Schwartz - Just a bad backup WR who was inactivated for the first 13 games, but the Everett went down. I put him in as my 4th strong WR and al lhe did wa scatch a TD and 150 yards in three games from the spot. Well done son!

Man I really want Scott to get into the HOF. I haven’t wanted someone this bad in the edge since DT Marvin Solymos, out and DE Bert Curtain, in

I have 30 playres under the cap and 71 mill in space prior to the fa period beginning. We are letting go: DT Spencer Caldwell, DE Scott Glen (sad face), and OT Claude Welch. I would love to franchise glen, but that’s against the rules of the dynasty (no franchising amazing playters cut late by teams for tags or rfa cuts). I can make an offer for him like everyone els,e but I cannot abuse the system by forcing him for more than a year, so Glen is off. Thanks Glen!
No changes to staff, no tags, no ticket price alterations
Free Agency time has arrived
I extend P Von Hagel’s deal by a year.
I cut Woodson’s deal by a third from 18 mill to 12, now that he is dropping his skill set and entering year 12 for him. He does not want ot extend his deal beyond this year. I don’t have a lot of people with contracts up this year. That’s very nice.
I need starters at OG, OT, DE, DT, LB, CB
Anyonbe who excites me?
DE Glen is about ot cash in for a ton of money.
A very old OG at 15th years is Calvin McWilliams, a guy who started a lot for me, and he’s out there in FA. He’s on my radar. Still the 3rd best OG in FA. I make him an offer.
I try to feel out the Highlanders to see if they would be willing to part with OG Shane Garner, but I can’t even get them to budge for two 1st round picks, so they really want to keep ahold of him, I would trade my #1 this year for him.
We sign McWilliams in week 8. Glen signs for 26, 31, 38 and 47 mill for four years with the Packers. No other FA interest me right now.

The 2060 NFL Amateur Draft
We have a pick way back in the back this year. QB Stephen Huntley and QB Roosevelt Skettitt are the only two worth drafting, and Skerritt’s potential is not better than my current 16 year old vet. Huntley is the guy. QB Marshall Kirk intrigues me as a backup, because he has very low potnetials, but is already very developed, so he’d be nice backup non-development type guy.
Huntley goes #1 to Richmond. I didn’t have enough ammo to trade into that spot for him. We pick #35 each round and have to struggle to find value. My pick arrives. Can I find that great player? Once about every five drafts or so a greats starter falls this far. Did it happen this year?
Yeah, he did. S Gene Hopper. Are you kidding me? Here are his stats - 27 of 82 in run d, 33 of 100 man to man, 23 of 74 zone, and 90 picks and 72 endurance. That is a nasty good Safety. Anyone else? Yeah!
WR Louis Dawson. 19/64 catching, 92 yards per catch, 25 of 100 for frequency, 80 3rd down, 94 carrying, 46 endurance. That is a nasty receiver this late! Any others?
LB Daryl Shaw, 33 of 86, 22 of 65, 28 of 70, 31 of 77, and 40 endurance is the normal type of player I’d get here and be happy with.
Backup choice S Bucky Stahlm with lower picks bu 26/89, 27/94 and 35/88 (38 picks) and 54 end. That’s very start-able.
And, QB Skerrit is still here! He’s not super hot - 14/64 screen, 14/65 short, 6/35 medium, 19/98 long, 13/66 deep, 34 3rd down, 19/81 accuracy, 13/90 power, 63 scramble, 50 carrying. That’s not All Pro every year but it is a very solid starter.
Others of merit - LB Roy Stevens, 20/80 run, 18/58 pass, 18/51 man to man, 25/95 zone, 64 endurance, LB Donald Pendergrass, 70s and 60s all stats pots with 30s current, LB Marty Blake the same, CB Skip Kayer, 10/50 for run D, 16/94 man, 18/100 zone, 45 picks, 48 endurance.
What happened? It’s like all of the talent mellted of the back of this round. I have drafted at the back of a lot of 1st rounders, and I have never witnessed such a bounty of treasure. I don’t even know where to start with this lot!
I look to see where they might tbe on folks’ board. Skerrit is 4th by QB future rating, Stahl is 2nd my current rating and 8th by future, Hopper is 1st by future, Dawson 5th by current, not listed in top ten by future, Shaw top by future, Pendergrass 3rd by it, Blake 4th by both current and future, Stevens not on list much and Kayer is not on list.
What do I do?
I have to get Dawson and Hopper. They are essential starters, with no flaws, perfect for me.
(And that's where I ended, see the above post about screwing up the draft accidentally)

Post crazy draft, I end up with this class:
1. S Gene Hopper, Tennesee
2/15 QB Roosevelt Skerrtt, Rutgers
2/35 CB Skip Kayer, Georgia Tech
3. WR Raymond Downs, Florida
4. RB Hardy Dishowitz, Western Kentucky
5. OT Nate Alcott, Texas Tech
6. DT Deron Cox, hio State
7. LB Ray Thompson
Let's see how they look laters

I sign all of the rookies and I have 51 mill in cap space. What is still around?
I bring in a few UFAs as well. I'll let you know of any that are god enough to warrant conversation.
Post-Camp I sign DT Richie Reid, a 2nd round pick from Huntington whom I drafted, to play for us.
Now, any booms? Busts?
Not really...
