Since it's Friday, something I randomly posted (http://osatwork.com/fofc/showpost.php?p=1983740&postcount=9), made me think of doing this poll.
So sue me.

This is correct.
Aliens is still one of my favorite movies of all time and easily one of the Top 5 action movies ever, along with Terminator, Die Hard, the first (and only the first) Matrix movie and... I am still uncertain about the 5th. Maybe the first "Lethal Weapon"?
Hrmm...

Crap, forgot to check the first one too. I was too worried about the reaction to me checking Requiem as well that I forgot. I liked Requiem for all the alien action, although I know it was fairly dumb. The first overall movie is possibly better than the second, but for totally different reasons. Its amazing that they basically did two different genres of movies for the initial and then sequel films, and were successful.

Come on. We all know that T2 is the best action move of all time. Aliens is right up there though. And I know I am one of the few who thinks this, but Alien Resurrection was very enjoyable too. Alien 3 wasn't that great. Haven't seen Requiem after the crap that was AVP.

I do love T2. For the longest time, effects-wise, it was the king of the hill in terms of action sequences. It was dethroned in that regard by the Matrix in 1999. I am still waiting for the next step in the evolution of the action sequence to take "The Matrix" down. 10 years is a long, long time...

Does that make it a classic movie?

Casting Bill Paxton was maybe the only flaw in that movie.

And on that note, why isn't Michael Biehn more of a household name? Is it because nobody can figure out how to pronounce his last name?
His career has always baffled me.

I wonder if it would have been uncomfortable on the set if Bill Paxton and Paul Reiser had known that they would one day have Helen Hunt in common?
I'd think that would make me uncomfortable.

Bill Paxton and Paul Reiser were both perfect in their roles in Aliens. Perfect. Hudson and Burke were outstanding.

Chet in "Weird Science". Hudson in "Aliens". These are classic, classic roles.

Well if you're talking about cringe-worthy moments in film anytime the man steps on screen then yes I agree with you. It doesn't make his a good actor, just means that there is a niche of people who find really awful "my god can he over-act this particular moment any worse" type scenes entertaining.

I kinda like all of the Aliens movies (have not seen the vs. Predator ones and am not planning on it), but the 3 sequels don't come close to the original. Like ct said, Alien is as "perfect" as a movie can be.

What I want to know is, in that movie, how come that tornado could tear a 40 penny nail out of a twelve X twelve, but it can't take the bra and panties off of Helen Hunt? If there's one thing I can't stand it's a gay tornado.

Wasn't she also in the show "Square Pegs" in the 80's? That's the same show that Sarah Jessica Parker got her start.
Yep - just confirmed it - she played the seminal role of Muffy Tepperman. :)

As an "Alien" series movie #3 sucked ass, but as a story about humanity and morality it was actually really well done.

I believe Alien to be a perfect movie.
I agree. I think it transcends the genre and should be considered among the greatest movies ever made. Although Weaver got nominated for best actress (which isn't saying much since there are so few cherry roles for women), it got snubbed for everything but effects (and score?). It was a decent year for movies:
- Platoon (won) - good but not outstanding
- Children of a Lesser God - never saw it
- Hannah and her Sisters - saw it but walked out. I think I was too young.
- The Mission - an excellent film. Probably should have won. I still think about the moral dilemma presented
All in all, the best sequel ever made (T2 must be the most overrated film of all time), the best or second best movie of 1986, the second best Sci-Fi film (to 2001), the best monster film.
