We haven't had a forum draft in a while, and I don't know if this has been done before, but I thought it might be fun to simply draft to build a football team, with no other restrictions beyond that. I don't know if we'd want to draft 22 players, 53 players, or somewhere in between. Any interest?

Only current rosters or historical included as well?

My thinking was current, and that people would vote at the beginning of the season and at the end of this season -- so there's a bit of forecasting involved (you may want to draft someone you think will have a good year even if they aren't publicly regarded highly), but not much. Historical is an interesting idea, too.

interested, but 53 may be to much. I say 22 at most

Oh yeah, definitely 22 (or 24 if you care to bring in K/P).
My interest would only be for current players...I'd get waxed in a historical one but would be interested to see others play it out.

I'm also leaning toward current players. I think that makes it a little easier for the voters, too.

I always thought it was an unspoken rule that things that have actual drafts are not considered.

If that's an unspoken rule, no one ever told me. :)
Anyway, I don't think an allocation draft of this style is quite the same thing as a rookie draft, but if people have a problem with it, then we don't have to do it.

I'd be interested. I agree, a starting lineup would be better..and really affect voting should one of your guys get benched during the year!

Great idea! What we could is draft our rosters of 22 or 24 (whichever you prefer) and then to see who does the best we could assign points based on how the players perform (like 6 pts for every TD) and then at the end the person with the most points wins! We could even have people match up against each other each week for a head to head record. Who knows, this idea could be the start of something big.

Danny, you were my hero for seven minutes.
That's seven theoretical minutes, as I actually read your two posts about 20 seconds after each other.

I'm a sucker for the forum drafts in which I know anything about the topic. But, I am glad that even for one small moment in time, I was able to touch your heart.

IF/when someone wants to do a historical Team draft I'd be interested.

I think historical is the only thing that works. Otherwise, as others have said (Danny most eloquently), this is just Fantasy Football.
For what it's worth, historical has been done on a couple occasions in different formats, but not for around four years. Last time we did it I think we only drafted 12 players.

*ponders writing up a unique rule set for a historical full team (24 player) draft.*
