did a quick search and didn't see anything on this, so forgive me if it's been posted.

This is a much watch, it's hilarious, uncomfortable, and surreal.

Is this the one from Canada where he basically turns into Joaquin Phoenix?

Yeah. I started out figuring there was zero chance i'd be sitting through the whole video... but it's pretty far out.

I read about this about an hour ago, just completely whacked shit as far as I could tell. I think I know enough batshitcrazy people in the world to be able to settle for that recap instead of suffering through the video.

Is it at least 7 minutes long? Don't want to be using the word epic too loosely

I'm so tired of celebrities that want PR, but only on their terms. Kudos to the first interviewer that cuts off the interview and calls him an asshole.

Huh....that's probably way the rest of the band is sitting on one side of the table. One guy is even resorting to toying around with the computer cord with his head down.

What is it called. Or can someone post the link. Trying to find it on my phone. It won't show embedded links and I need some entertainment for the drive home. Is it the one where he talks about having a fight over cole slaw

Yup. That is what happens to your brain after Angelina Jolie gives you the syphilis.

Brad Pitt should consider himself warned.

is it just me or is there no sound on that video?

2 day later update: Weird. Obviously works fine for everyone else and me, now, but that night I couldn't get it to play audio at all. Who the hell knows.

I was really impressed with how well the host handled Thornton during this "interview." It was great to see how uncomfortable Thornton made his bandmates, too. What a jerk.

I'm going to take a wild guess that he's tripping balls during this interview. He's definitely on something.

Edit: Well I watched the rest of the video and I changed my mind. He's just being a general dick.

Now had Billy Bob been playing the meow game during the interview fine, but this, wow, what a douche. I'll echo the host rolling with it pretty well. Nice to see him actually challenge Thornton on the "rules" a bit too. Pretty stupid on Thornton's part to continually ignore the music questions just because the guy mentioned him being an actor at the beginning.

If you're an artist that wants to break, you're going to do morning radio.. so you know the drill. I'm sure Billy has done TONS of 6AM interviews before in support of movies.

I mean, his comparison to Tom Petty is absurd. If Petty wrote a script - would he demand that his music NEVER come up in an interview regarding the new film he worked on?

It's absurd to want every benefit derived from crossing over to another art form (even being acknowledged) and none of the negatives (that being used as a reference point as to why such a shit band is even being interviewed).

And if you've made it this far in the thread and haven't actually watched the video, please do. I got sent the link from a friend and immediately thought "no f***in' way i'm going to spend 14 minutes on this, but i'll press play"

But trust me... it will end up being 14 minutes well spent. It's awesome by any number of criteria.

The Tom Petty question was my third favorite part.

#2 - BBT criticizing Canadians because Americans/Europeans get more into the music on a Canadian show

#1 - the look on the faces of the other guys in the band.

Yes.. the interviewer handled it well.

In fact, the interviewer should have spouted random Sling Blade references when BB would start talking.... "I like them french fried potatoes.. mmmmhummm"

How often in your life do you wish you could act differently than you actually do? Not saying this to excuse their actions, but I wonder if, at a certain point they feel they have enough power/wealth/fame to just act the way they want and drop all the pretenses most people have to keep up in day to day life. For some people you see how great they truly are, for others, well, you get videos like this. In other words, in a lot of cases it was probably always there, but they just didn't let it all show through until they felt they had the requisite fame to do so.

That and obviously their dickhead moments are observed/recorded/analyized a lot more than joe normal.

While I am somewhat sympathetic to Billy Bob's obvious desire to have his band and his musical career stand on their own merits, I have my doubts that he and his management team aren't playing both sides of the coin here.

Yeah, Billy Bob says the interviewer's producer was told "no discussion of his acting career", but when they set up these publicity tours unless they are saying "Treat this band like any other up & coming band - don't make any mention about Billy Bob's acting career, and treat him like any other up & coming musician. If you don't want to book us given those constraints, fine." then they want to have their cake and eat it too.

He goes from being purposely obtuse & weird because he's upset the interviewer has mentioned his film career to being explicit about being upset, and then acting normal*.

* understanding that "normal" for Billy Bob means being kind of a prick

BBT was clearly being an ass.

I guess he doesn't want mention of his film career, 'cause he sucks at it.

I thought it was a Joaquin Phoenix thing too, but he was just being a jerk. I loved how the interviewer put BBT on the spot by saying, "Billy Bob will not be performing because they didn't bring their drumset", or something to that effect.

Speaking at Toronto's Massey Hall Thursday, Thornton told the crowd that Ghomeshi, whose name Thornton said he couldn't remember, was an "a--hole."

"I sat down and talked with this guy," Thornton said from the stage. "He and his producers say, 'We promise you we won't say that' (meaning references to Thornton's acting career). The very first thing they said was that... If you look someone in the eyes and promise them something, and you don't do it, you don't get the interview."

This joust at Ghomeshi, who was roundly praised across the web for his calm, measured approach to Thornton's on-air sulking, was greeted by the Massey Hall audience with jeering and shouts of "Here comes the gravy!"
