The Progressive Insurance Chick

This came up on another board. Amazingly, I find that I'm in the minority in thinking this chick - the character - is annoying and exceedingly not hot. In fact, I'd be more like to punch her in the throat then switch car insurance companies. But apparently she has inspired a cult-like following, with many guys on this other board calling her "strangely fascinating" and "alluring" and "cute." Here's an article about her from last year:

No, sir, you are not. There's more where that mash-note came from, out there in the blogosphere's infinite confessional space: "She's hot." "She's weird but, God, she's fine!"

Others have naughtier ideas that they're perfectly comfortable sharing with the world, even if we can't do so here.

Her character is named Flo, and with the hair and makeup, I am immediately reminded of:

Admittedly, she looks much better out of character, but the discussion was about her in character, and it shocked me to read all of these comments from guys thinking she is hot.

If you watch the NHL on "Versus", Flo has been a regular there for at least the last two years. She's like an old friend now.

Compared to other actresses, she doesn't really do it for me. The "normal" picture above is a much more attractive girl to me than she is in the commercial. Having said that, were I single and met her in a bar I'm sure I would find her attractive (if she didn't talk like the character in the commercial ;) )

Well, due to the NHL's (lack of) popularity, there are only like 6 companies that advertise on "Versus" during the playoffs. So, you see the same commercials over and over and over and over again... The mute button is definitely your ally.

At least last year two (of the six) commercials had some redeeming qualities. That shaving cream commercial had all those hot women wearing jet packs or those foam guns. (I particularly liked the brunette who wore the jet pack. She had quite the look on her face as she was flying into the guy's nostril...).

Then there was that "Heineken" with that "I want you" song that eventually became catchy and had one or two decent looking women to boot.

By now some of you may have noticed that my Sonic spots have not been on in a while. Unfortunately, the days of Brian & Molly have come to an end. The good news is that next week I will be shooting some new spots with a new female partner. That’s all I can tell you right now, but I’m looking forward to seeing how this new direction turns out, and I hope you’ll like it.

Thanks to everyone who’s asked where we went and said that they missed seeing our spots. I certainly miss them too and will miss working with Brian.

I'm also quite sure that the hidden subplot to that commercial is that the air freshener was used specifically because Flo was coming over. Kind of a preventative measure to relieve all of them from being in an uncomfortable situation. I bet the other 3 ladies had a call about it the night before.
