Just found out a former student of mine committed suicide. Shot himself at the age of 16. I had him when he was a freshman in high school, and spoke to him on almost a daily basis at school. It was an impulse kind of thing, he got into a little trouble with the police last night, nothing major, they took him home. He shot himself in his room later on, not too long after coming home. Extremely upsetting. Not sure what else to say, other than if there is ever anyone that reads this that ever has that thought cross their mind, talk to a loved one, and make some sense out of your situation before you do something that can't be reversed. I'm sleeping close to both of my children and wife tonight. Very sad. :(

Oh Crap, I hate to hear about stuff like this, and then this so close to home. Even closer that my oldest is 14 now, I don't even want to think about the pain that his family is going through right now.

It's such a vulnerable age that it's horrible hearing news like this. I remember having some problems during those years where I didn't really consider killing myself, but essentially though my world was coming to an end.
That's the problem at that age though. Every event in their life feels so big. The loss of a girlfriend, getting in trouble, failing tests. Truth is that he probably would have laughed about it 10 years from now with his wife. I think the one thing we forget to instill in kids these days is that it's sometimes OK to screw up.

My best friend since the 8th grade shot himself this past November. It has been the most devestating thing I've ever dealt with. On a day-to-day basis I constantly think about it and all kinds of things that go along with it. I hope you find some sort of peace in the coming days with what has happened.

Sorry man. :(
My high school girlfriend's best friend killed herself shortly before I met my girlfriend (I met her friend once a few months earlier.) She was a mess the whole time we were together... Every fight we got in ended up with her threatening to kill herself.
This kid's friends need counseling.

Sorry to hear this Cougar, it can be very tough. Three weeks ago a student that both my wife and I taught hung herself while in police custody waiting to be sent to rehab. It's always a big shock, even for a troubled student like her, you just never expect it.

That's really sad. My brother in law killed himself the day after Christmas 6 years ago. It really rips a family apart and makes you think about the way you treat your loved ones.
