Who cares.

I've never understood the fascination with this stuff. Who gives a flyin' who the cover athlete is for Madden, NCAA, etc.? Can someone explain this to me?

Well, if they get on the cover of Madden they're going to have a crappy year, and fantasy owners everywhere would like to know this info before their draft...

When your product doesn't have any NEW features to announce, a cover athlete announcement is all you have for PR purposes.

For the record, I criticized the cynical nature of the posters in the "Improvements in Madden 2010" thread.

But the fact is - people are actually all over it. I check PastaPadre for updates on the latest sports games. He and the commenters trip all over themselves trying to predict who the cover athlete will be.

For me, it's like discussing (recent Operations Sports thread title), "Players who wear dark or smoke-colored visors." Who cares?!

Some college players who were successful last year and are now heading into the draft.

Pfft - a simple case of regressing to the mean. We both know that :)

I think that occurs on sports video game blogs because the releases come in waves. There's long dry spells between the baseball releases in the spring, the football games in late summer, and the basketball/hockey games in the fall. There's a whole lot of down time in between where they really have to work hard to make enough stories to report on a daily basis during those lean months in regards to releases.

So uh, who's on the cover?

Not a Virginia Tech QB since they can't get one.

I rename him David Lobsterbush in my game.

Why don't you just google yourself?
