Released yesterday - just letting all the LOTR fans and TW players here know. you can grab it at twcenter.net

Third Age: Total War - Total War Center Forums (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=654)

I downloaded and already had a hell of a blast last night.

Pretty cool how they made it so when you stumble across certain places you get videos - for example if you send a guy to the Falls of Rauros you get a sweet video, or there's a video when you find Imladris, etc.

Those are actually the only two I've seen so more - thinking there must be more I just haven't stumbled across yet.

Anyways, it's totally awesome, check it out!

It's insane-tacular. So fun being able to see out a company of city guards from Gondor to retake Osgiliath, or the very real FURY I had when the Orcs of the Misty Mountains drove the Silvan elves out of Caras Galadhon, and how I was frustrated that I didn't have an army close enough to save Galadrial because I was playing as Eriador. Between this and the Westeros mod I'm doing a little work for, I don't ever get to play regular Medieval II anymore...haha

after playing more last night, this mod LOOKS beautiful, but it still needs some playtesting to get unit balance correct, and IMO it also needs to increase the amount of $$ generated by each (major at least) city and also prepopulate the cities with buildings (i find it clashes with "lore" a bit to have to build a stable in gondor in the year 3000 of the third age).

The unit balance is a bit out of whack too, but those things are all fixable and folks are working on them.

It's still fun to mess around with and enjoy the visuals and the immersion.

Thanks for the info on this . I might try to pick up MTW II myself. Do you need the expansions or just original MTW II to play this and Westeros Mods(is that one out yet?). How does MTW II hold up being it is fairly old now?

You need the Kingdoms expansion for both now. We are still working on Westeros (yes I say we, I am officially on the dev team - although only as a text writer) but there is a playable beta out that I've personally logged essentially an entire campaign on (yay for getting Robb to sit on the Iron Throne in King's Landing), and we are actually combining with another Westeros mod that one guy was doing all by himself but that he got very far along, so we should be even closer to a 1.0 release.

I'm not a "cutting edge" type of guy with my gaming anymore, so Medieval II holds up fine in my eyes. There are AI limitations, but they're not game-breakers IMO.

Thus far I don't like MTW 2 nearly as much as I did I. I miss the ability to grant titles and the map is damned hard to read.

Izulde - you can't "grant" titles anymore, but there are scripts out there (widely used in most/all mods) that give titles to generals and family members based on different conditions (usually capturing/residing in a city). but it's not quite the same, no

well, I'm downloading the HRE mod that says you can grant titles like in I.

aaah *nods*

i never played 1, so i'm not sure, but maybe it's the same type of thing? like when you get the title auto-generated then you can move it around between generals.

if not i'd be curious - maybe i'll have to check it out and see for myself

Well, it said I had a title I could hand out, but when I clicked on Show Me How, the bitch of an advisor flew off the screen.

Thus far, my experience with MTW2 has been like my experience with the later versions of OOTP... there's some things I really like about it, but there's certain things that drive me absolutely insane and have me wanting to go back to 6.5 (which I have) or 1 (which I would if I could ever find my disks again).

Figured out the problem issue I was having with titles and somebody posted a trick for how to transfer titles which was very helpful.

Unfortunately the map gives me a major headache to the point where I can't play for more than 20 or 30 minutes at a time.

I asked on the forums if there's a political map mode.
