I saw Rush perform live in Tinley Park back in '07 when I was in the States. Pert did this 10-minute solo... it was insane.

But can he rub his tummy and pat the top of his head at the same time......while chewing gum?

As much as I despise Rush...think Pumpy and Colin White...Pert is fantastic.

Sure, he can play the drums OK. I wonder if he can sing better than that dude that plays the bass guitar. Might be worth trying.

In all seriousness, a drum solo can only hold my attention for so long. Certainly not 8:42.

Agreed. I don't care how good you are at drums. It just all becomes white noise to me at some point, and it's definitely south of 8 and a half minutes.

If a drum solo is nothing, but white noise, then it's a crappy drum solo. I liked the video and Neil definitely reuses part of his drum solo and changes it up over time. The jazz part at the end was a nice touch to it. Pert and Bozzio are probably my favorite big kit drummers.

Here's a pic of at least one version of Bozzio's kit. There's a reason I preferred using a 4 piece kit.

Neil Peart is one of the few guys that could get me to listen to an 8:42 drum solo and be in amazement for the whole time.

I'm just impressed that he can do all that and still get a load of whites done at the same time.

Neal Peart couldn't drum his way out of a paper bag!

Peart is sick , but Geddy [B]is getting it done on the vocals. Might not be everybody's cup of tea, but I think his vocals make Rush what they are.

Maximum Ridiculocity begins at 6:05...

I'm a huge Rush mark. Peart is amazing, to be sure. The way he has retained parts of his drum solos from decades ago and keeps adding to them, and updating many of the same old riffs makes watching him so much fun.

I completely agree. ;)

Again, slightly more seriously, I think Moving Pictures is musically a very solid album. It's only the vocals that stop it from being a classic for me. Really haven't been able to get in to the few other Rush albums I've tried (2112 in particular).

Yet I can listen to badly accented German vocals trying to sing English lyrics (Eloy), without it bothering me at all, so *shrug*.

But he has two arms. Trying drumming with one!
