I'm done with Firefox

I'm sick of the constant Address Not Found Errors since the switch to Firefox 3 and no matter what workaround suggestions I've tried, none of them work.

So I downloaded Google Chrome again. Hated the default look and layout, so went to download a theme and it locked up my computer.

Okay, so Chrome was out.

It's been quite a long time since I'd used Opera, but it's what I used for the longest time before I switched to Firefox.

Downloaded 9.64, installed it and what do you know? It's not bad looking, is quite fast and no Address Not Found errors to speak of.

Guess I'll be going back to Opera.

Okay, I was wrong about the speed.

It tends to drag on facebook apps and isn't as fast as first thought, but I'll take the slower loading for now.

I'm not following something. How are address not found errors the fault of the browser?

I'm using Firefox 3, and I'm not getting any not found errors.

What kind of browsing are you doing? Are you some sort of a pioneer? A cutting edge surfer? Going where no man has gone before?

Address not found sounds like your HOSTS file is screwed up or any number of other problems (bad proxy, virus, etc)

That sounds more like some kind of proxy error rather than a browser error. I've been a day 1 Firefox guy and have never seen anything like that on a standard setup. More info!

If I could get standard bookmarks functionality in Chrome, it would quickly become my default browser - it's so much faster in playing videos. But for now I just use Chrome for YouTube links, and Firefox for everything else.

Funny thing, IE8 doesn't like my computer, it randomly hangs and doesn't bring up pages. IE7 worked great the times I used it. In order to fix my 8 issue I have to reset the browser and then it will work for that session and then 75% not work the next unless I reset the browser again. FUN FUN!

If you're not needing any of the plugins on Firefox, you could always give the Firefox 3.5 beta a shot. I've heard good things about it and just recently started using it this week myself.

No, those errors are caused by either DNS issues, proxy issues, local host file issues or some other form of resolving the address that you are trying to connect to.

I came to work this morning and was able to access it fine, so I'm thinking it's either something with my computer or Comcast.

Exactly- it's an internet issue, not an issue with the browser.

I'm not sure for the reasons for the "grandstandingly" posted message, my guess would be frustration on his part of having to deal with something not working.

The problem he describes is not an uncommon problem, the issue is there are dozens of reasons why it can occur. Some other common reasons for this are:

- At one point Kaspersky Security suite if being run with Firefox 3.0 would prevent Firefox from hitting some pages, but not block IE from the same pages.

- Some pages have html coding that is not proper by standards but works ok with browsers that have certain allowances for non-standard programming but break other browsers that do not know to look for non-standard programming.

- Some personal firewall software (such as Zone Alarm) sometimes do not recognize that Firefox was upgraded and treats it as a different program. When you try to visit sites after upgrading firefox, it does not allow the connection and you get a response of Address not found.


THere are many other possible reasons. I can understand why he would get upset or frustrated when something as simple as a web browser is causing him problems. Even though it likely is not firefox's fault, that is where his frustration is pointed.

I use Firefox for my main computer, but I think I just saw the IE8 Update show up on our other PC. If that continues to be a problem, I may roll back to IE7. Ugh...

SO I've had this problem over the past few days. For me the issue was the AVG antivirus. If you're using AVG, on the error page, at the bottom, is a line to click to stop having AVG suggest websites. That has fixed it for me.

So my new thing is when I type an address into the address bar or select a bookmark, Firefox acts like it is loading the website and it just stops and says done with nothing coming up.

Try it again, and then it works. I can still surf teh internets but it gets annoying to have to do everything twice. Sometimes it happens with links too.

I've been having trouble with FF loading up REALLY slowly, like a white screen for about 60 seconds. I ended up disabling the Yahoo toolbar and that has worked but it had worked beautifully until about five days ago when that started up.
