NEW YORK -- A basketball player missing his left hand has received a scholarship to play for Division I Manhattan College next season.http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2009/0526/ncb_i_laue_200.jpg

Kevin Laue is a 6-foot-10 center whose left arm ends just past the elbow. A California native, he played a postgraduate season for Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia this year hoping to impress college coaches. Laue averaged about 10 points and five rebounds competing against many Division I prospects.

Laue says he was wondering whether he would realize his dream of playing Division I basketball before Manhattan contacted him just over a week ago. He signed with the team Wednesday.

Fork Union coach Fletcher Arritt said Laue's shot-blocking skills and ability to run the floor will make him an effective college player.

Over the back!!!

Seriously though, that's pretty cool. I hope he does well.

When I was in junior high school, I played against a guy who had one hand, similar to Laue. Dude had a mean left hook and was tough to play because I didn't play against lefties often. Eventually, I got my timing down against him, but he was a good player. Never would've known he had one hand...

Hope Laue plays well and enjoys the ride. College sports are a blast.

I remember having a one handed kid guard me in a 6th grade basketball game. He kept jabbing his stub into my back. I wish I could lie and say it didn't affect me, but it so did.

reading the subject of the thread, I immediately of a one handed FOOTBALL center and couldn't see how he'd be able to block... :D

Cool for him though.
