Not really wanting to sleep (and eager for my teams first match tomorrow) I decided to look over the transfer wire and found a player with an assessed value of 62,000 with no bids minutes away from having his auction end, so I decided to bid 1,000 to try to get him. I did and here is his info:

James Galindo (10617468)
19 years, passable form, healthy

A popular guy who is temperamental and honest.
Has disastrous experience and weak leadership abilities.

Nationality: USA
Assessed value: 62 000 US$
Wage: 820 US$/week
Owner: Square Pegs
Warnings: 0

Stamina: wretched Goaltending: weak
Playmaking: disastrous Passing: disastrous
Winger: disastrous Defending: wretched
Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: wretched

Career Goals: 0
Career Hattricks: 0
League goals this season: 0
Cup goals this season: 0

I was just wondering if any experienced Hattrickers could tell me why his assesed value is as high as it is with fairly low skills and what the chances are I could end up getting anything for him.

I'm no where near an expert, but I've found that goalkeepers are valued much higher than outfielders.

from my limited hattrick knowledge i would say- he could be a backup keeper, but inadaquate keepers usually go for around $10-$20k and most people use these as their backups...passable keepers go for about $80k-$100k...and solids go for around $200k....most people don't even bother with keepers below inadaquate.....and also, if you already have 2 keepers he will be of no use....i did the first thing when i got my team...bought 2 weak keepers thinking it was a great deal considering their assessed value.

Thanks Doug, I was waiting for someone else to post so I didn't have to dola ;)

I believe the reasoning behind the high value is due how difficult it is to train a keeper. If you train Goalkeeping, then there is only 1 person getting trained for an entire week, wereas if you train playmaking, you have the potential to train 10 players on your team.

Well, it only cost me $1,000 so I wasn't really thinking I could get a great deal, but someone I could sell for more than I'd paid. Even if I can't I'm only out 1k, so I didn't see much risk involved.

He's a cheap, young backup. It'd be good to have an inadequate one but weak will do. Goalies don't have accurate values for what they are worth. Here's a rough guide for goalie pricing (based on their goaltending rating), or at least the price you should hope to pay for one.

weak: $1K-$5K
inad: $10K-$15K
pass: $65K-$85K
solid: $200K-$300K

does a keepers stamina matter a lot?

The only thing that matters is keeper skill and I would think form would be secondary.

This is kind of off topic, but since it's keeper related I'll ask it here.

Does anyone happen to know around what assessed value a solid keeper would have? I looked on transfers and on the lower end it seems to be around 240-250k. The reason I ask is that I have a passable keeper who is assessed to be around this value and was wondering if I should try to train keeper to upgrade him to solid. Assuming he is close, would it take a long time for him to upgrade with only 1 gk coach and a solid coach?

You can get a solid keeper cheap now. Look around at all the markets. I've seen a a few go for as low as 125,000. I saw one that was at 93,000 but the time it ended was at about midnight.

It would probably take you two weeks to get him to solid if he is in passable form. In passable they pop at around 300k.

I'm most disturbed by this trend. I'm not sure why it's happening. While all other players $$ have increased, the keepers have hit bottom. Way to the bottom. As a keeper trainer, with a trainee to sell shorly, this is very discouraging.

Nothing to worry about. What will happen after the next couple of weeks is field players going down and keepers going up. Right now it's a buyer's market for keepers. This happens at the beginning of every season and will last for 2-3 more weeks. Just be patient.

Speaking of Hattrick, the site until 18:50. If memory serves me correctly, then it should be up in a matter of minutes.

Dola,

I have an inadequate keeper up for $10k and a 18 year old poor keeper listed for $1k.

Since we're advertising,

I have a 20 year old inad at 1k (10659641) and ...
a 20 year old passable at 70k (8873690)

I have a passable keeper who has steadily gone up, and is now around $211,000. I haven't trained a week of keeper, and he still goes up. I've heard that keepers can get better when you train general, but I'm training stamina. Also his form hasn't changed. Ideas?

Has his stamina gone up? Even though the stamina doesn't factor into his game performance, it might factor into his value.

No, it has been at excellent since I bought him.
