Just thought I would put something on this. Is any one interested in a Dominions 3 FOFC game?

We've got a group of 3 Dom 3 players for MP games. The games normally last roughly 50-60 turns. We're not experts by any means. We're looking to get larger games, but don't want to open games up to the hardcore players.

Anyone interested in joining up for a game or two?

Dominions has always intrigued me but the demos I've tried, I couldn't get a clear grasp of what to do or what was going on.

I'd be more than happy to help!

Dominions is a game you need to play, and it helps playing against other people to really take the game to the next level. The AI is...lacking.

If you have any questions or would like some help, let me know.

I'd give it a shot depending on the schedule you come up with. Have only played SP.

We normally have 24 hour (or faster if everyone gets them in) turns for the first 10 or so turns. We then move to 48 hours or so. We're pretty easy going, all of us have real jobs and kids so we're pretty flexible.

We use llamaserver, which is essentially an online server. We use quickhost, which means once everyone's turns are in, the turn will run, even if the deadline isn't for another 5 hours, day, whatever. It helps to keep the game flowing.

I had/played a little bit of Dominions 2 back a number of years back (solo only). Is Dom3 significantly better? I've looked from time to time, and have rarely if ever seen a price break. Does that mean it's a quality title, or a stubborn publisher?

Dola - Just downloaded the demo. I noticed there are 41 people currently viewing Dom3 forum at Shrapnel. For a game ~ 5 years old, that ain't too bad!

Probably a bit of both. There are three games that I always go back to, one is Nethack, another is Railroad Tycoon II, and the other is Dominions 3. It's a pretty big step up from Dominions 2 from what I have heard and read. That said, I never played Dominions 2, aside from the demo.

Also, that's after the forums split about 6 mos. or so ago. Many of the diehards left for their own board.

Cool. I'm in.

I started the tutorial last night. So far, game play seems similar to Dom2. My guess is maybe they've added new spells and units. I should finish the tutorial up tonight...

There's three ages in the game, Early Age which is more magically based, Middle Age, which has different troops and the magic moves more towards death. The Late Age has yet more different troops, magic is more homogenized (less magic, most races have access to more types of magic, but not as powerful), magic skews towards death and blood paths.

There are also specific spells for different nations.

Also, one other item, we use the CBM 1.6 and the Standards & Streamers mods. CBM 1.6 balances out nations relative to one another as well as removing the gem generators in the base game (this keeps nations from just spamming gem gens and getting a ton of gems per turn, it skewed the longer games towards those who could get those gem gens the easiest). Standards and Streamers changes the flags in game so they are more differentiated and look nicer. Easier to tell who is who at a glance.

What nation is everyone interested in playing? Mictlan is already taken. I am looking at Marverni, Abyssia, Kailasa, and Vanheim (I am flexible, if you want one of these I can move to something else). Also, taking Hinnom is frowned upon since they are completely overpowered. If you want to be ganged up on, you can take them.

Standards and Streamers - http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=39989

For a map, with 5 players, we'll shoot for roughly 100 provinces... I'll post later, looking at Threelake, A Pangaean Earth, or Streamlands. Will post link later.

What age are we playing? I think that will make a difference for the nation IIRC.

I'll take Sauromatia then or if that's taken then Neifelheim.

ac556 (one of my buddies) - Mictlan
path12 - Sauromatia
Furrball (another buddy of mine) -
Warhammer - Marverni (?)
palli - ?

I'm leaning towards Streamlands for the map. I will make some fixed starting points so people aren't on top of each other to start.

Has anyone a tip for a good nation for a total noob?

What play style do you prefer? Big armies? Magic Power? Really cool sacred troops?

Also, as a noob, you will probably lose. This game has a big learning curve, but it is worth it.

Yeah, I suspect I'll get drilled this first game. And probably most others, seeing how I have trouble with the AI in single player.....

Different things work in MP. Diplomacy is important in the game as well. Feel free to ask any questions.

I'm a bit surprised as well. And I don't think I have ever seen it on sale...

OOOHHH! Pans! Fun!

There are many ways to play with Pangaea. I['d suggest try to find one thing and go with it.

Also, we're going to play on Streamlands. I need to mod the map though, so I'll shoot it out this weekend.

PM me some email addresses and I will send out the map files. The game name will be FOFCMJ. The game will be run on llamaserver.

Essentially, you will send in your turns to [email protected], and when the turn is run, you will receive a turn from the server. To send in your pretender, send in the pretender file to [email protected]. The subject for each email should be FOFCMJ (name of the game).
