Four years into the rebuilding programme and 8-8 is as good as it's going to get, everything in place except serviceable QB & CBs (quite important huh?), plus running back by a committee of mediocres so can't resort to smashmouth. SP and I'm playcalling myself (but I get similar figures if I test run & discard a Rex'd automatic game).
The curious thing- I am getting murdered in the second half of games. The teams wins small but loses big (simply cannot stop a good offense), after 7 games first half scores are even (67 vs 75) but second half is 37 vs 85. The opposition is level seems to be my O that's collapsing.
I don't have excessive problems with "familiars", and suggestions as to what's going on???

None of the following will help with calling your own plays, since I don't do that, but when you say your SP does the same thing, I found that curious.
With SP testing, your gameplan should be able to correct your problem.
The first thing I would do is to take a look at both my Offensive and Defensive Gameplan Adjustments screens.
"Use adjustments for tied score until X minutes" might be an important clue. Remember that you won't use 80% of the settings here until X minutes have passed.
That may indicate the point where your gameplan goes screwy.
So, with that in mind, check out what your adjustments are when the score is tied. Personally, I have my gameplan set in the Basic Offense and Defense gameplan screens, so you don't need to put extreme adjustments in the "tied" adjustments portion of the Adjustments screen. (Unless you think you are getting away with something.)
Next check your lead and trail settings, if any of them are extreme %'s (50%, 70%, 90%, Always) consider toning them down and see if that makes a difference.
Test out different settings against a couple of seasons each until you start to see results (or at least some difference). Then you can make extreme adjustments one by one to see if you get better results once that X minutes have passed.

Seems to be a stat aberration; second half of the season is looking "normal" in terms of points distribution. So probably just a blip.
Thanks for the advice though!

Oh, I thought it was all 4.5 seasons....but you're just talking those last 7 games? Yeah, bad dice rolls sums it up.

Serious bad rolls, finished 8-7-1 and in the playoffs thanks to a very weak division; ripped through wildcard, won a very close divisional game and got pipped by 1 point in the last minute of the championship game!
