FOF is pretty much the only program that's keeping me from cutting ties from Windows full-time. Has anyone used FOF07 in Linux? Thought I might be able to use WINE to do so, but I'm worried about the e-license control...

I've run FOF in WINE under MacOSX (BSD/Mach) and Suse Linux. The license manager is no problem. You license it normally (enter info at install) and you unlicense by adding 'unlicense' as a command-line argument to the executable ('wine FOF2007.exe unlicense'). The GUI is a bit buggy, but everything works.

Thanks for the heads up. I just loaded it up and it works fine. Awesome. Goodbye Windows.

I run it in VirtualBox on my Mac, that way I can at least run the various utilities pretty well. But of course you have to have a Windows license to do that.

I've had it running on VirtualBox as well; but good to know that it works on wine.

I run it in Wine now. My only problem is the menu boxes/windows don't have the 'close' button on them. Has no effect on my ability to play at all.

I bet most folks couldn't even find Ubuntu on a map.

Thanks because it's in my pants, not on a map.

You won't Ubuntu on a map, it's an idea, not a location (unless you are refering to it as being somewhere spiritually).

I am currently running fof2k7 under a vmware windows xp instnace on my Ubuntu desktop station and I am looking very positively at the fact that we can make it run under WINE. Kewl.

Next questions now : can you also run gstelmack suite tools normally ? and primelord rating changetracker ?

dola :
- I now run fof2k7 under Wine, kewl, no more VM stuff
- I couldn't make primelord changetracker application work under wine <- anyone could ?
- I haven't tried gstelmack suite yet, is it possible ?

It's very unlikely CT2 would run under wine

Thanks for the reply primelord.
