View Full Version : I need new websites to visit

Ok, so over the last couple of weeks I have decided I am in a rut online. I go to the same website all the time and want something new to check out. Sure, searching for "this or that" takes me to different sites every day, but that is usually a one time thing. FARK and my other news sites, the three or so boards I frequent, Facebook, Twitter, a couple tech sites, a couple sports sites.....that is what I am stuck in.

So if you got some sites you visit regularly that I (or others) may like, please toss them out for me to try. Don't worry about what I like, just throw out what you like unless it's porn of course.

Sounds like you need to try Stumble.

EDIT: Its like Pandora for web browsing.

That's true, web pron is such a personal thing :D

I use My Way (www.myway.com) as my home page, have since not long after they launched. Easily my favorite portal site ever, due to the lack of ads, unwanted video crap, and customization options.

For my 80's metal info, I like Sleaze Roxx: Your 80's hard rock and heavy metal resource. (www.sleazeroxx.com) , an aggregator with a decent amount of original content.

For info relevant to media buyers I hit Media Life Magazine (www.medialifemagazine.com) , headlines from a variety of categories every day spun from the perspective of buyers of TV, radio, outdoor, out-of-home, and other forms of mass media.

I have tried it before and didn't like it for some reason. I guess I might as well give it a try again.

I was excited when I saw it posted. I used it a little this morning and so far I'm underwhelmed.

I think the problem is that Pandora is limited to, you know, legit releases. This has every tom, dick, and harry website out there.

You need Subby to hook you up. He is the master of the new digital media age.

I always check deadspin and Big League Stew for sports news.

Cracked.com often has good humor.

Front Office Foo... er... here.

I am a huge OOTS fan. But it is not really a daily read since the comic is only updated once or twice a week.

I like stumbleupon when I'm really bored. I never understand the complaints about the sites that pop up, because it doesn't take much effort to hit "stumble" again. If you hit the button more than 3-4 times and still don't find something interesting, you are either very unlucky, or very limited in what entertains you.

As a warning, Barstool Sports is borderline SFW. Those kinds of pictures could get you boxed here at FOFC ;)

There is always Powered by Dan (http://dangarion.com) but all I usually do is regurgitate what I find on the internet anyway.

What we really need to start doing is sharing each others Google Reader feeds through their new options...

Deadspin, Sports News without Access, Favor, or Discretion (http://www.deadspin.com)

Those are a couple blogs I check out on an almost daily basis.

Once you go in and set up your "interests" on Stumble, the site selection gets a lot more consistent and you stumble across a lot more sites you end up spending more time on.

I also like that your favorite sites are all saved on your stumble profile rather than having to add hundreds of new sites to your favorites menu.

It took me a while to get down to really enjoying it as well, but for fits of boredom, its a savior now.

With that and the Last.fm toolbar, which is pretty much Pandora, but loaded in your browser, and its not limited as to how long it will play before you need to tell it you are still there and listening. I just leave it on most of the day and check the top of the browser when I hear a song I dig.

And here is one of my fave sites: hxxp://www.jonesbigasstruckrentalandstorage.com/ If you remember the Montgomery flea Market ads, these are in that vicinity of funny.

The Art of Manliness (http://artofmanliness.com/)

A rather good daily read. It's a guy's site that doesn't flood you with half dressed women.

Lolcats ‘n’ Funny Pictures of Cats – I Can Has Cheezburger? (http://icanhascheezburger.com/) (http://icanhascheezburger.com/)
LOLcats, LOLdogs and the fail blog. Its one of those sites I check daily.

Or how about Sporcle.com: (http://www.sporcle.com/)
mentally stimulating diversions for fun quizzes, with new ones added daily.

Or hxxp://www.textsfromlastnight.com
I'm gonna catagorize this one as NSFW but not because of pictures. Its just random funny texts that people submit, whether real or not its some funny stuff.

Now that I think of it...I think there is a thread here somewhere about that site.

I enjoy You Suck at Craigslist | Exactly what it says on the tin. (http://www.yousuckatcraigslist.com/)

Other things in my "daily grind" bookmark folder:
Astronomy Picture of the Day Archive (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html)
Ctrl+Alt+Del (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/index.php?t=archives&date=last)
Penny Arcade! - Escalation, Part One (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/)

RCRD LBL | Free MP3 Downloads (http://rcrdlbl.com/)
http://techmeme.com/
Sign In to The Sword and Laser - The Sword and Laser (http://swordandlaser.ning.com/forum)

And from my Google Reader subscriptions, some of the more "mainstream" pages I read regularly (i.e. non-crafty or super-niche):
Ars Technica (http://arstechnica.com/)
http://www.boingboing.net/ (very hit or miss for me)
Cake Wrecks (http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/)
The Consumerist: Shoppers Bite Back (http://consumerist.com/)
Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/)
FAIL Blog: Pictures and Videos of Owned, Pwnd and Fail Moments (http://failblog.org/)
Gamers With Jobs (http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/)
kottke.org - home of fine hypertext products (http://www.kottke.org/)

TED Blog (http://blog.ted.com/)
The Blogs at HowStuffWorks (http://blogs.howstuffworks.com/)
The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks (http://www.unnecessaryquotes.com/)
xkcd - A Webcomic - Woodpecker (http://xkcd.com/)
The Escapist : Video Galleries : Zero Punctuation (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation)

So yeah, hopefully in that list you'll find something interesting. Or at least amusing.

All of these should be considered extremely NSFW

filmdrunk.com
stileproject.com
theync.com (definitely go here if you want to have your mind blown into 12 million pieces and have your heart fall into your stomach over and over again...this website is so insane that even I usually fear to tread...some real twisted videos)
deadspin.com (I usually just use this to crack jokes and hope people fawn over my sense of humor)
