One week from now, I'll be making the move to State College, PA. My lady is getting her PhD from PSU.
I've been there twice to visit a buddy of mine, but since I'll be living there for the next five years, I was wondering if anyone who lives there/went to school there could give me a quick guide for things to do/places to eat, etc.

I opened the Wegmans there, lived there a year.
Not a whole heck of a lot to do not related to Penn State and you aren't close to much. It's a classic college town, it's DEAD in the summer. There's a DQ up the main draft on the Wegmans end which was a favorite spot. I was on a shoestring at that point so I stuck to the college joints on the main drag around the bend (back towards the highway).

I <3 Wegman's. The one in Mechanicsburg, PA, is amazing.
My ex-wife went to State College...I spent a lot of time there. The place is pretty dead in the summer, yes. Still a lot to do. And there's nothing like Saturdays in the fall. It's the best college town in the country, bar none.
I recommend Gumby's for pizza, the Corner Room for general food...the creamery on campus is excellent...you can't go wrong.

Thanks guys, I'll make sure to check those places out.
I'm very excited to get out there. I went to a really small college and it will be fun to experience a real college town.
Plus, it's nice to have a football team to root for. My school didn't even have one.

The creamery on campus is definitely great.
I ate at The Tavern quite a bit during my time there. Always enjoyed the food and the people who owned it were great. Not sure how it is now or if it's even still there (this was 15+ years ago), but is worth a try.

I also recommend Brothers Pizza, in the Hamilton Square Shopping Center. Some of the best subs I've ever had. Also some of the biggest.

The Creamery is a must. I stock up with gallons of Ice Cream each time I'm up there in the fall. I also echo the Wegman's love. I wish there were out my way towards Pittsburgh. They might be a little more expensive, but the food is fresher and I love the ready made food that you can order there.
If you get a chance, check out CC Peppers on South Atherton, by Walmart. Good subs there! Pokey Sticks at Gumbys are good...so is brothers pizza. The Waffle Shop for breakfast.
I always liked the Allen Street Grille, right above the Corner Room.
I can't wait till the first football game now!

If I could go back in time to my college days, I'd go back for a couple of things. One would be the 12.8.2000 DMB show at Bryce Jordan.
The other would be for Pokey Sticks at Gumby's. I got them *every* time I visited PSU (which was quite often). The ranch that came with it was the best ranch I'd ever had.
One place I did not enjoy was Hi-Way Pizza. That was the most overrated place I've ever been. Horrible pizza, and too expensive.

There is a little bar (attached to the back of The Tavern) called the Adam's Apple. They serve drinks called Sins...which is 6 different types of Bourbon topped off with some champaign. Excellent drink.

The Adam's Apple is still there? kool. Is that drink similar to The Original Sin, or are they 2 different drinks?

I think we are talking about the same drink.

Just pulled up the website for The Tavern. Nice to see Pat Daugherty still owns it. Very nice people.
Another place we used to go was The Diner, but that was usually late night for...either sticky buns or monkey bread or something like that...

Penn State University is akin to Fairyland University. There is no such thing as Pennsylvania State.
