Hi,
Is there any data on how important this QB skill is?
Does completion % go up.
Thanks,
Merry

Here's what I think we know:
1) In general, double coverage on the targeted receiver reduces the likelihood of the play succeeding
2) The "read defense" seems to be completely about having your QB recognize double coverage and throw away from it
Pretty much what you'd expect. The magnitude of each of these factors is so hideously difficult to test, that the importance of the rating is left in a pretty murky spot, as far as I'm concerned. I personally don't consider it a high priority.

In theory I would say it depends on the set-up of your offense. I you have one great WR you might not be bothered about read defense at all, in fact you may sooner be throwing to him in DC than other poor receivers in SC. If you have a number of equal quality receivers it would seem beneficial. Having said that bars like sense rush, and the hidden avoid interceptions are obviously far more important.
