Or was she lying???

"The more flak I get for it, the prouder I am," said Maines.
So was the apology a facade? Now that would be disgraceful.

It's just a shame that these performers have a platform to express their views that aren't available to most people. They don't have a clue as to what goes on in the "real world" (at the very least, their views are no more important than yours or mine). It's also a shame that people are likely to applaud/follow anything these people say like sheep. I guess I was like that too when I was younger.

markprior22: Show me one person that follows Natalie Maines war views, "like sheep". She has taken a terrible ass beating for this. Regardless of your opinions on what she said, I don't see how you can claim that people are blindly in step with Maines' views on the war.

My problem with it is that she said she was "sorry"...then said she was glad she said it...

What's even more pathetic is that the bunch of losers who sit on the Madison city council are likely going to approve a resolution supporting the Dixie Bitches, offering them the keys to the city, and ordering their music to be played at council meetings. We just elected a new mayor, we have severe budget issues, and they're wasting their time and taxpayer money on shit like this.

Yeh, that's lame. I don't really have issue with what she said, but my problem is that she felt the need to say it in London. It's like people who act a certain way to say black people, and a certain way to white people. Don't pander. Be yourself. And if you meant it, don't apologize.
I'm sure the two other girls in the group are REALLY happy with her...

I am talking about a concert situation. 15,000 people who worship whoever is on stage and wildly applaud anything they say. I didn't mean people in general (such as those on this board). My point is....just because someone can sing or hit a baseball doesn't make their opinion more informed or valuable than anyone elses.

Craptacular: Yeah, that pisses me off too. Its just like those losers that are renaming fench fries in the Congressional kitchen and calling for treason charges against Peter Arnett. "We have severe budget issues, and they're wasting their time and taxpayer money on shit like this.":)

I could really care less about the Dixie Chicks. They should work on their music instead of forgien policy.

who cares. no one's gonna remember them 5 years from now. hello, Shania Twain?!? let them have their time in the sun.
if i were the other 2 hot ones, i'd join Shania Twain and Faith Hill and make one super-group of hot girls so hot that you don't even pay attention to their music.

Oh, now it was a "joke":
http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=212895
Maines admitted that she told a London concert audience that the group was ashamed that the President is from their home state of Texas, but added, "It was a joke and it wasn't planned. And it was really funny at the time. It got lots of cheers, and that's what it was meant for. You see the trouble that you can get into if you speak religion or politics. It gets people very upset."
Haha...wtf?

The only thing is a joke is watching them backpedal and posture to try to save their careers. It is a very good thing for them that they have crossover appeal.

I just don't understand this girl...she makes her remark, then she apologizes...then she says she's glad she said it...then she says it was a joke. wtf? lol

I think I added my thoughts on the matter quite succinctly. For all the talk about not caring what celebs think a good portion of the right wing seems to be pretty concerned about it.

Travis Tritt made a point the other day. He said this was not the Dixie Chicks. This was Natalie Maines making the comment. The other two members of the band, the sisters that formed the band, have not made any statements and in fact may not agree with her at all. They had almost fired her once before. It may happen before it is all over.
