View Full Version : HBO TRUE BLOOD
I'm assuming there is a thread for it, but did a search and found nothing. Just have a quick question. I happened to catch an episode of it recently and enjoyed it, so I wanna start watching from the beginning. Is there anywhere online you can watch all the episodes from the start, or should I go hit the video store?

There's no way Eric dies though, right? I thought (from reading the book summaries on wikipedia) that Eric & Sookie end up together (at least temporarily - in the books Sookie is a bit of a slut).
Also expecting to see...something more from Jason.

Was that really spoiling anything? Seems like they've made their intentions with that pretty clear (HBO and the writers I mean). I spoiler-tagged it anyways, just in case.
And I didn't say what would happen with Jason (presuming I read it correctly on wikipedia).

I figure it'll go something like this: Eric's girl (Pam) will let Sookie up. Bill feeds Sookie. Sookie runs outside and lets Eric feed on her to save himself as Russell bursts into flames and Eric's just about to.
It seems like Russell should last longer than Eric outside though, so I'm not sure. Maybe it'll just be Bill feeds Sookie. Sookie grabs a stake and runs outside and stakes Russell and lets Eric feed on her.

I watched the first season and a little of the second but this is mostly what caused me to stop watching. Sex in television and film is great, if done right. Actually, Russell would burn quicker than Eric.
When Godric(k?) was about to enter the light, he said the older the vampire, the quicker he would burn because it's been that much longer going without any light exposure.

I finished Season 3 last night and now I am fully caught up with the show. Season 4 starts on June 26.
I watched the first 3 seasons in pretty rapid succession, so, obviously I enjoyed the show. They do a pretty good job with the cliffhangers, which keeps you wanting to watch "just one more".
The series is a bit uneven at times. I probably liked the whole Second Season Maryann plot more than most. I can't help it. I've always had a thing for Ensign Ro and I always like the whole shub-niggarth/bachnalian cult type villains, so that was a little more up my alley than most people's. That said, Russel was a superb villain. He was great. He will be hard to top.
Probably not too many surprises here, but overall general observations...
1. Erik and Pam are great.
2. I don't mind Sookie. I likes my womens sassy and she's got sass.
3. I feel bad for Tara. She's been through a lot, but she's really tiresome. All she does is yell and cry all the time. It's not that her tears and anger aren't justified, they are just tiresome. And, granted, things have been crazy and abnormal since the show began, but despite saying it all of the time, I really never see that "best friends" connection between Tara and Sookie. I think one reason they keep repeating it is because they never show it. I did like the scene at the end of season 3 with Tara and Andy Belfleur when she confroted him about Eggs. That was well done.
4. Jessica and Hoyt are great.
5. I even like Arlene. She makes me laugh. And I really like Terry and I liked Rene, until he ended up being a psycho, so I don't mind their subplots.
6. I really liked Jason's subplot in the second season with the Vampire Killing Church. He does tend to make me laugh as well, but there is a lot meandering going on trying to find something for him to actually do. I am not sure what they plan to do with the whole Jason and the Inbred Methonaughts angle. I heard the actor talk on some making of short. He's got a crazy refined English accent. It really threw me off.
7. Not sure what I think of Bill. I do like how he talks.
8. I really liked Sam. I didn't even mind his family subplot with the dog fighting ring and everything. He was a good character right up until the end of the last season when they decided to pretty much assassinate his character and make him Dark Sam. It was so sudden and stupid. He gets called a pussy once, beats the dude up, has some flashback about getting screwed over by some thieves, turns into a raving asshole, turns nice again briefly, but then turns back into a raving asshole. They just pissed all over his character. If they did kill Tommy, I wouldn't mind. He was generally irritating.
9. Lafayette is great.

+1. I watched it to compare it to other season one shows I have been going through and too be honest it was "the worst" of the bunch*. I liked some of the characters, but Sookie's brother was very one note in the first season and it's like they just used him to show nudity. Pretty much everybody has said the show has gone down since season one, so I haven't invested beyond the first one even if it left with a good cliffhanger.
* Granted, we are talking when compared to things like Dexter, BSG, Freeks and Geeks, Pushing Daisies, and Veronica Mars.

Yeah, didn't think it was that weird(at least not weirder). Actually it's the conventional stuff thats turning me off. Faeries, witches, werewolves, etc. The turning into a puma thing seems redundant when you already have the shape shifters.
I don't know, kind of popcorn shock drama. I do still really like Eric and the girl he turned(forget her name), humorous and portrayed well by the actors.

I am still watching it. Didn't watch last night's espisode yet. The first episode of the season was a little off. The whole first 8 minutes in faerie land with a faeire schism and glowing faerie gernades was just, well, a bit odd. The rest of the episode was sort of setting up the pieces again, since everything started 1 year after the last episode.
The second episode was quite good I thought. They've made Vampire Bill more interesting given some background reveals. Erik and Pam still rock. The witch coven could be an interesting villain this year.
There is potential yet.

I had never watched 1 minute of this show, but saw 5 minutes of this season and saw witches, shape shifters, and more...was like WTF. So I went back and used HBOGo to watch season 1 and I actually enjoyed it. I'm a few episodes in to season 2 and it doesn't seem all that silly yet, but I can tell they are alluding to different kinds of people. I really like this show. First started watching on disk through netflix after hem hawing around about if I really thought it would be worth getting. Blew through the first two seasons very quickly and was watching 3 when netflix raised prices, again. Terminated my disk rentals from netflix and turned on hbo with DISH and finished season 3 with HBO online. My biggest problem now is I'm used to being able to watch three episodes back to back and now have to wait a week for each new show:(
From season 1 'til now I'm amazed at how much I've come to like Erik and Pam. Its funny that even though the lady witch(can't come up with her name) is a human I am wanting Erik and Pam to have their revenge. Is that wrong?:)
All of the characters are well done and fun to watch. The only one I don't really care for is Tara. It's not the actress, she does a good job playing the part, its the character. If you look back at Honolulu Blues post describing all of the characters I pretty much agree with everything he said.
Like Dexter, True Blood just keeps bringing me back. Both shows do a good job of ending the show with enough going on that I need to see what happens next. That is what good tv does.

I was excited last week when I thought Tara might finally change as a character. But nope, she's still the worst character on the show. Sam's brother was challenging her but now with his new power evolution, he could be interesting.
I agree they need to keep some people as normal. Or explain why so many "powered" people live in this area. Like it's a Hellmouth or something.
This past week was a fairly weak episode imo. Too much talking, and then the Tara crap.

I don't mind the Hellmouth aspect of Bon Temps. I kind of like it. I also like the fact that it's pretty heavily commented on within the show. Luckily, they have been smart and have confined all the fairy stuff (so far) to the first few minutes of the first episode. Other than that, we saw Sooki's fairy godmother for like 5 seconds before she was promptly eaten by Erik. That's the way to handle the fairy stuff.

I don't think she's Eric's biological sister in the fact that they were born from the same mother. I think she's his "sister" in that they both had the same sire (Godric) and were likely both created around the same time or so. So, in vampire terms Godric's their "father" (sire") and they are his children and thus sort of like vampire "siblings".
For example, if Bill made Jason a vampire, Jason could be considered Jessica's "brother" in vampire terms.

Tara has to be a bottom 5 TV character of all time. I'm tired of the "Black people can't get their shit together" cliche that is Tara and her mom. Every scene with the mother has been done 100X better in a John Singleton movie. And Tara just comes across as a clueless shithead over and over. 2. I feel considerably more stupid than I did before I started watching this.
3. Rutina Wesley will burn in hell for this
4. I hate the theme sequence....I basically have created a game whereby I attempt to exactly skip all of it on my iPad. I am bad at this game
5. I think Pam is my favorite character
6. The guy who plays Eric is so hot that I would briefly consider going gay with him.
7. Why the fuck is everyone so goddamn special. We got shapeshifters, mediums, faeries and shit all living in the same group of friends.
8. When given the chance to kill off Russell Edgington and Tara, YOU TAKE THAT CHANCE. Screw the books
9. I hear Steve Newlin is back. I'm excited.
10. WTF was that werepanther storyline. That was insanely horrible.

Season 4 was where I almost dropped the show (wasn't season 3 Russell?)... I loved Russell actually, so I didn't wanna see him killed off... although I agree about Tara. Season 5 has maybe one or two redeeming factors and the rest has sucked balls.
Werepanther story was horrible, and Pam is the best character on the show. Season 5 has some more of her through the first few eps.

Season 5 has been really solid so far, faeries aside.

Is that sarcasm?? lol. I guess it's gone more in a direction of craziness that I didn't care for or something then. Boring and/or stupid storylines. I care for Pam, Russell, slightly about Detective Jason looking for the truth about his parents (although the faerie stuff there is dumb), and the rest is just boring or disjointed.

This is why I stopped watching. The original fairy reveal had me rolling my eyes at levels unheard of.

Not in the sllightest. I've enjoyed the season so far. I've loved all of the Erik and Bill hijinks. Love seeing an old character come back. I enjoy all of the Authority/Vampire stuff. The werewolves have been more interesting this year than in the past. Sookie's been a much better character.
So far, so good this season.

I don't like the BS that is going on with Layfayette this season. Makes no sense and doesn't seem to fit.

Finally caught up
1.Wish they wouldn't have killed the guardian so fast
2. Hoyt fucking sucks
3. Tara's mom needs to die painfully
4. Wonder who made Steve Newlin
5. The baby eater guy is too much
6. The chick who is Alcide's #2....was she a wrestler?
7. Tara is much better as a vamp
8. WtF is this layfayette story
9. Don't care about Sam/the girl
10. Dont care about Andy
11. Don't care about Arlene and her husband
12. They need to write off a bunch of the side characters.

I would give jessica's nude scene about a 5 out of 10. I had hoped for so much more. The actress must have a strong aversion to doing full frontal nudity

This show needs to figure out who the main characters are and focus on them. It worked when they all had the same/similar agenda and location, but now everyone has their own agenda and location. Several characters don't even interact with each other any more. Time to scale back or shut down. This season has been abysmal.

The old sheriff as a racist klan killer? just not feeling that as a plot twist.
And it's fairly obvious that the Lilith blood is tainted with some sort of drug.

With a new show runner coming in, it seems like they are killing off some of the old standby characters. I'm hoping the fairie nonsense will end sooner or later.

It's like they channeled all the Tara suck, multiplied it by a factor of 14, and merged it into Bill. He's not a villain, he's a fuckhead. Totally unwatchable.
I think they'll kill off 4-5 characters this week, all of these people suck. Luna has horrible boobs. Check out the 70s bush on Lillith.

Yeah - the whole "nest" thing has just made Bill unwatchably bad. Eric too for most of the season (though now he's out maybe that will change).

Yeah, that was a pretty insane finale. Great kills galore.
The Terry smoke monster plot was very stupid and a complete waste of time. It was filler. I really like Terry and Arlene, but they are best as some comic relief, though I guess they had to deal with Terry's time in Iraq some way. Just wish it would have been not so stupid.
Fairy stuff is always lame.
The white trash werewolves are pretty much always lame. They don't really serve that much of a purpose and it feels like they've been involved in the same plotline - werewolves addicted to V - for the last three seasons.
Jason turning vamp-hunter because he saw some form of his dead parents was pretty stupid.
The Authority plotline grew tiresome.
Tara as a vamp >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tara as a human.
I don't hold True Blood to any real standard, so I was fine with it. I watch it for some loves and over-the-top nonsense, which this season delivered in fits and starts.

Just started catching up on season 6. So far I like it better than the previous few. The angle with the governer is a neat one and I like Eric so much better than Bill so I am glad he is getting more screen time. The Warlow thing is cool but really predictible, looking forward to seeing where it goes. Just finished episode 4, can't wait to see if those fairy girls are really dead.

Well, this is it. I assume that Skokie's blood will somehow get synthesized in order to end the violence? The whole show has been about how irresistible she is.
And FU HBO for continuing to creatively block Debra Ann Woll's nude scenes.

It was only important to show that Sookie had moved on.
I'll miss Pam and Eric, they had great chemistry. Kind of sad it's all over. I may do a re-watch at some point, although I imagine it will be easy to fast forward through significant stretches.

Almost as bad as the Dexter/HIMYM finale in terms of like...making sense and being coherent IMO.
But the show had been downhill for so long on those things that like...I think it got cut a lot more slack so nobody's holding it to that high a standard as those other shows.

I thought it was an appropriate finale. Bill longed to join his family on the other side. He realized that he had nothing to offer Sookie. Jason and others got a happy ending. Sookie found love finally and a normal guy. IIRC she was a virgin when she hooked up with Bill. This was never a great show like Dexter, it just had great moments throughout. I don't think the finale was disappointing at all.
And who is that girl who played Bridget? She sorta looked like Heidi Montag post surgery I thought.
