View Full Version : Who are the most ignored users at FOFC?

I've been asked this question quite a few times, so here's the answer:

Looks like we all had the same problem there, so I checked my own ignore list.

Among the 63 names on it is a "mrbuttercup" so I'm assuming that "jr" was an alias that came along after a boxing or banning or something.

I'd bet the number is considerably higher than you'd think, with a significant number of people using it the way I do for some people, a chance to be more selective about when you do or don't have to deal with someone's post. There's a number of people on my list that I do respond to, but having them there makes it easier to pick & choose when I do so.

Ben,

Just curious. Is the ignore feature name specific or profile specific? In other words, if I changed my name to Syracuse Lacrosse Fan, would everyone have to 'ignore' that name as well or does it use a profile ignore, regardless of what ID I use on my sign-in.

I'm not changing it either way. Just wondering how it works.

I already knew he was a sad individual, but this is truly pathetic. Out of the entire interwebs, we choose the virtual communities we want to lurk in or be a part of. And even in the community he selected, he still feels the need to spend the effort to ignore/reject 63 memebrs.

Jon was briefly on my ignore list back in the day when it seemed like every post got my lilly-livered liberal-egghead communist blood boiling and I did it just so I wouldn't go Barney Frank on his ass and get myself boxed. But I echo what you said completely -- I may not always agree with Jon but his views strike me as sincere and well-thought out and I respect that. I eventually dropped the ignore because I found myself clicking on this posts all the time because I wanted to see what he had to say. We even agree much more these days than we used to. We both must be getting soft in our old age.

The antithesis of a guy like Jon are the people on my ignore list -- people who I don't believe are sincere and nothing they ever had to say was well thought out. Two are on the top 5 list and SportsDigs had the other two weeks ago. The_meanstrosity is there because he's a fuckin' Jayhawk asshat.

Feels somewhat ironic at the moment that I saw your post without having to click on it.

I was thinking quite the opposite about the number to tell you the truth, that is was remarkably low when you consider a few facts.

1) As I'm typing this, the members lists indicates 460 people have visited FOFC in the past 24 hours, around 520 in the past 72 hours. If even 20% of them have posted, that in the neighborhood of 100 posters depending on the time frame.

2) Even if every single one of those were on my list, that's a 63% ignore rate (and they haven't, plus at least a dozen or so of the names on my list are people who are long gone from FOFC as far as I can tell)

3) As I've mentioned a number of times through the years, I'm a devout believer in "The Rule of the 80", which essentially states that roughly 80% of the people I will encounter in my lifetime are ultimately too fucking stupid to have been worth the time or trouble. A few years ago I modified the rule for accuracy and now refer to it as "The Rule of the 90" or "85-90".

That really make FOFC quite a bit above the curve versus the general population, and by the math maybe even more than I would have guessed (an expert on standard deviations would have to figure out what the number would project to)

I was about to mock you for your rule of 80, but I see you already amended it to 90 which seems about right.

I don't think you're a bad guy or anything at all but if your attitude in the NFL threads during the season carries over into real life i'm honestly surprised you haven't been beaten to death by a Vikings fan yet. ;) I always start out the NFL season reading everything but most likely by Week 3 you'll be on ignore again. We can chat again in February though!

MBBF is the only top 5'er I have on ignore. I do read most of his posts on most days, but I need a buffer first to prepare so I don't just quick reply with a string of f-bombs when I run across whatever he's saying to try to put down the entire community at the time.

I'm trying to recall in what way mrs. kippy was so annoying, but he definitely was.

MrBigglesworth got under people's skin because he was a strong liberal voice in political threads, and it seemed that he posted almost exclusively in political threads. Imagine if Dutch only ever posted in political threads, and you'd have a conservative version of MrBigglesworth.

On another note, I wish we could do the opposite of blocking. I want to have certain people's posts highlighted for me. It's really good for drama (made out of very little sometimes) and some people get voted off once in a while, but when all is said and done it is the stronger personalities that keep it interesting and make me want to come back because otherwise a lot of it is the same conversations over and over.

I have never added anybody to my ignore list at any forum, my eyes are selective enough to skip a post if i feel i should, that is not often, as i think that every person, no matter how idiot they are, can teach you something one day.

Also i don't usually get into arguing or flame wars in message boards, there is nothing more useless than that unless you are really bored.

Also probably most of the hottest discussions that lead to putting people on ignore lists are politics related, and as i have no knowledge/interest on USA politics, i always skip those threads.

I can remember two discussions here in all the years i have been in, one was about hunting, with somebody i can't remember right now, and i must admit that my post was too extreme and i deserved the calling out. The other was with HA/Anthony when i was still too sensitive about my lost baby and he posted something about wanting to f*** a pregnant B.Spears on a painful way or something like that, typical joke by him but that caught me in bad times and i pulled the trigger. Usually i would have just ignored those comments without answering.

MrBigglesworth was basically a left wing bubba wheels imo.

Nah, BW would just make stuff up (again, in political threads) while MrB would link to other websites to support his arguments (something not a lot of people do, to be honest). I think MrB's ban was a lot like Jesse Ewiak's, for a level of persistence towards defending their viewpoints that just pissed a lot of people off.

So why is Bubba still around?

IIRC, one day BW just stopped posting in political threads. It was pretty impressive. He also may have gotten boxed once or twice. I haven't seen him post elsewhere, but maybe he does.

I'd bet the number is considerably higher than you'd think, with a significant number of people using it the way I do for some people, a chance to be more selective about when you do or don't have to deal with someone's post. There's a number of people on my list that I do respond to, but having them there makes it easier to pick & choose when I do so.

Thats a good point, I actually don't anybody on my list at all as I respect the difference of opinions, even opinjions that make me go WTF?

I just can't anybody ever posting anything that would get me that upset and when I feel it happening I just stay out of a certain thread.

I am impressed with the size of your list though Jon, that's prolific.

That makes a lot of sense to me. Also, Ben is probably not likely to go INTO a political thread, so I bet that the fact that Jesse Ewiak was more likely to start a new thread instead of bumping an old one made him more likely to get banned.
