It looks like a...well I don't know but I don't like it

One of these guys showed up a few weeks ago on the side of the house. Tonight, there was two chilling. It looks like a snail without a shell, or a slug, but I've never seen a slug this big before.

Any ideas what the heck this could be and if I should declare the siding of the house a warzone?

Yeah, those are great gray slugs. We have them here in Richmond- 2 or 3 can be seen crossing the path up to our apartment at any given time during the night. If it's rained, I've counted as many as 25 at one time in the grass and on the path.

They seem pretty harmless to me and I'll watch them occasionally since they're kindof funny looking critters. They don't mess with my basil or my rosemary so we get along just fine. In fact, I put a basil leaf in front of one to test it. It looked like it extended its little mouth, tried it, pulled its mouth back, and oozed on over it because it didn't like the taste or something.

For some reason, they are always going one direction (from the west to east). Haven't been able to figure that out.

I don't see what harm they're doing unless you have a garden. Also, like I said, we have them all over outside but have never seen one get indoors even though our house is kindof built into a hill a little.

House centipedes, on the other hand, have no problems getting inside :(

Oh, and silly weird fact- we have noticed that they seem to eat bird poop. Sounds disgusting to me but it does keep our walkway clean... well, except for the slug slime.

Skinner: Well, I was wrong. The lizards are a godsend.

Skinner: No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They'll wipe out the lizards.
Lisa: But aren't the snakes even worse?
Skinner: Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.
Lisa: But then we're stuck with gorillas!
Skinner: No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death.

It's a grey slug as someone mentioned. They are harmless. Just leave it alone, they are outdoor animals and have no interest in your home.

I never knew the name of them, but I knew they were slugs. Open my back door on any summer/fall night and you can see about 20 of them wondering about. My son is terrified of them. I made the mistake of reaching down for the cats' water dish one night and touched one. Didn't scare me, but took me forever to get the damn slime off my hand.

Oh, and they can get inside. Not your home, but I have seen them in the garage. I don't mind them outside, but I pour salt in the garage to keep them out of there.
