I'm thinking of creating an entire place and then having a conference of schools come from that place like I did with this scatterbrained dynasty some moons ago. (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=58944) Except this time, I'm saving the screenshots somewhere other than on a random domain of mine that might move, so the photos don't go away a year or so after I do it.
Because we have custom conferences and NCAA teambuilder, this appeals to me a lot more.

The alternative is to have a running high school dynasty and to ignore the colleges all together by taking over the Sun Belt or WAC and just fill a league full of cupcakes and report back the results annually without doing any recruiting or anything else.

I think that might be more interesting...especially since our better players might transfer to bigger schools and that could keep things super interesting and we can root for an entire league.

Let's try that, shall we?

We're going to replace the MAC with 12 teams from my fictional Jefferson map in SimCity 4. I won't do any recruiting, we'll just sim from year to year. All of the programs will be 2-star programs, because it keeps it interesting. The MAC Championship game will determine the state champion and we'll just ignore bowls and stuff like that, just using NCAA 10 for its sim engine.

Here are the teams in the Jefferson Metropolitan Athletic Conference (that play football)

The Governor School (Lake)
Condotti-Vanguard (Lake)
Winchell County
Brennan
Evergreen
Simmons (Shasta)
Three Lakes (Allison)
Lake City
San Alberto North
San Alberto Central
Hacienda
Metropolitan (Allison-Lake-Brook Counties)

The largest city in the state is Allison. The county has over 140k people. Its neighbor, Lake County has over 112k people. Here are the populations of the other towns. Hacienda is a CDP in San Alberto. I don't have any pictures of San Alberto yet, either.

Winchell County (20k)
Brennan (50k)
Evergreen (8k)
Shasta (62k)
San Alberto (77k)* fastest growing city in the state

Three more teams to create and then we'll go from there. I'm not sure if I want to cover the communities more or just start playing and then give you more insight into the places. I'm still figuring this out.

There are 13 teams in the MAC, so I think I'm going to take over Conference USA. Not that it matters for this thing, but at least it has a championship game, which was the point.

I've taken over the entire conference, so I could ensure their schedules aren't polluted and that the game auto-recruits for the teams. All of the teams non-conference games will be against the stock FCS teams the game has and I believe everyone should only be playing an 11-game schedule.

Young Drachma
09-05-2009, 03:39 PM
I wasn't able to get all of the teams to not play college teams, just because of the way scheduling worked, so when they do play schools from out of conference that aren't FCS, I've tried to make it ones that are passable. Like Notre Dame (HS) or Rutgers Prep or one of the service academies.

Allison County is home to Metropolitan High School. The largest high school in the state, it's home to students from throughout the county, as well as feeders from Brook County and Lake County. The joke is, Brook County doesn't field a high school with football, because they can send their best athletes to Metropolitan instead.

The county is also home to Three Lakes High School, the only other football playing school in the city of nearly 200,000 people. Allison County houses Jefferson International Airport (JFA), as well.

Enough pictures for now. Let's get down to the football action.

Week 1 features a variety of out of conference games by most schools, but the highlight of the week is an early season title between #3 Lake City and #4 San Alberto North.

North v. Lake City
Governor School v. Southeast HS
Condotti-Vanguard v. Mitchell Academy
Winchell County v. Southwest Acadia
Central v. Simmons
Brennan v. Loomis
Hacienda v. Midwest HS

I didn't play any of the games this week, so no highlights, but I'll start highlighting a game of the week in addition to results.

This week's result indicate that North is sending a statement that they're for real and Hacienda's road to the state championship hit no skids as they piledrived Midwest.

Week 1 Results

North 35, Lake City 20
Governor 58, Southeast 0

Here's the Week 2 schedule
----

Sherman at Condotti-Vanguard
Midwest at Evergereen
Hacienda at Simmons
Southeast at Lake City
Winchell County at Governor
Farmington at Metropolitan

We're going to head to Simmons to check out the game there against Hacienda. It should be a walkover for the Invaders, but fresh off a loss last week, perhaps the boys from Shasta County want to make a statement.

Young Drachma

Hacienda 24 , Simmons 10
Going into this game, I wasn't sure what to make of Hacienda sophomore quarterback Jonathan Lawson. He barely edged out junior Ronnie Parham for the starting job this year and Parham has a better arm in my opinion. But in any case, Lawson did his job right in this drubbing of Simmons, going 7 of 11 for 159 yards and 2 TDs.

Here's a highlight from the game:
<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i218.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid218.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/Dynasty_DC/991A0001_1_FLV_VIDEO_dkl.flv">

I was really impressed with Hacienda's running back Michael Byrd. It might have just been inferior opposition, but he was a beast. He ran for 104 years on 14 carries and a TD, but that understates his impact. If they're gonna win a state title, it'll be because Byrd runs them there.

Hacienda (2-0), Simmons (0-2)

Other scores:
Condotti-Vanguard 45, Sherman 3
Evergreen 46, Midwest 6
Lake City 52, Southeast 3
Governor 40, Winchell County 14
Metropolitan 31, Farmington 0

I think this week, we'll check out the Rutgers Prep at Winchell County game. The story is, a Winchell alum is now the head coach at Rutgers Prep, so he arranged for a game between his old HS and the school he now coaches. Should be an interesting matchup to put it mildly, but I'd be shocked if Winchell County kept it competitive.

Here's the Week 3 schedule

North Shore at Brennan
Matzipan at Lake City
Southeast at Central
Grossinger at Three Lakes
Morris at Evergreen
Rutgers Prep at Winchell County
East Plainfield at North (San Alberto)
Sherman at Metropolitan
Willingham at Condotti-Vanguard

So I probably ought to eat my words. Winchell County is a lot better than I thought they were. But in a way, it shows how far football in the Metro League has come. Even schools that were once considered middle of the road can compete against strong out of conference schools.

They've got a pretty special kid at QB named Daniel Tyler, who can not only sling the ball, but run with it as well.

Watch his handiwork with the arm on this 56-yard TD pass to give Winchell County a 14-0 lead just before halftime.

<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i218.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid218.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/Dynasty_DC/991A0001_3_FLV_VIDEO_iMN.flv">

Travis Crum, the running back, isn't too bad either. With the score 14-11 with about a minute left in the fourth quarter, Crum broke for a 28-yard rush to give the Farmers a 21-11 lead.

<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i218.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid218.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/Dynasty_DC/991A0001_2_FLV_VIDEO_CrA.flv">

Rutgers Prep scored with about 29 seconds left in the game, to make it a 21-18 game, but it was too little, too late as the Farmers clinched the victory in a game that only they seemed to think they could win.

Enough of the silly season. Gimmie some real action and adventure. Week 4 is the first time we get some real matchups amongst the various schools in the METRO League play. Check out these gems:

Lake City (2-1) at Hacienda (2-0)
North Shore at Central (2-0)
Winchell County (2-1) at Brennan (2-0)
Midwest HS at Governor (2-0)
Northwest HS at Simmons (0-2)
Condotti-Vanguard (3-0) at Evergreen (2-0)
Andrews at North (2-0)
Rutgers Prep at Metropolitan (2-0)
Haddington East at Three Lakes (2-0)

The rationale with the Rutgers Prep game was, why come all the way out here for just one game...I don't think this will end too well for the Argonauts of Rutgers Prep, though. I'm going to check out the Lake City @ Hacienda game, because I don't know that it'll be a slam dunk for the Invaders at home, but if so, it'll be a message to the rest of the league that they're not joking around.

Rutgers Prep 17, Metropolitan (2-1) 10
Three Lakes (3-0), Haddington East 0

Full of upsets last week. Evergreen is the smallest 1A school in the state, Condotti-Vanguard is a dominant private school program in 2A. But that's why they play the games, I guess. Huge win for Evergreen though.

Rutgers Prep gives Metropolitan a loss that'll probably result in them having practice for seven straight days. Those coaches there hate to lose and I think the went into that game seeing what Winchell County did and assumed they could just muscle 'em. But it didn't work out that well for them.

I missed the Hacienda/Lake City game. But after seeing what happened, I'm pissed that I missed it. It looked like a real battle.

Lake City (3-1) 21, Hacienda (2-1)19

Hacienda scored with 1:47 in the 4th quarter, but failed on the two point conversion that would've tied the game, giving the Cardinals their 3rd win of the season.

I love this league. I mean, it's only been a few weeks and literally you want to see how the games emerge. When it looks like a particular school is going to emerge as the dominant one, you get another one reminding them of who's boss. It's an exciting time, especially for the first season, as we'll really have to see who emerges from the pack to the make the championship game.

The way state championships work in Jefferson is like this. Because so few schools play league football (most of the other teams are either club teams or import teams from California or Oregon that come over to play Jefferson schools) in Jefferson due to the cost, the division champions are combined class champions for football.

So the eastern division champ is crowned Class 1A-2A State Champions and the western division champ is Class 3A-4A State Champions.

Winchell County (4-1) 10, Evergreen (3-1) 3
Governor (4-0) 38, Simmons (1-3) 10
Condotti-Vanguard (4-1) 34, Brennan (2-2) 3
Hacienda (3-1) 63, Northwest 0
Metropolitan 24 (3-1), Three Lakes (3-1) 13

Stay tuned for highlights from The Battle in San Alberto. I'm stoked to see what happens as both North and Central are 3-0 and 1-0 in the conference, so this game is a high stakes battle for title hopes.

Calling the North v. Central game a rivalry is probably giving Central way more credit these days. North leads the rivalry series 41-19-8, but the past eight meetings between the two teams have resulted in wins by the Wildcats.

So the buzz in the stadium that Central might have a shot was a bit...well, curious. But everyone believed that this was a different Central team, a different year and perhaps a changing of the guard of sorts.

And it was clear that North was the more talented team. But in the 4th quarter, after a fumble inside the red zone, North failed to convert and the score was still 13-7 in favor of the Wildcats with 41 seconds left in the game.

The Central run attack had been pretty neutralized all day, meaning that they had to rely on the air game to get themselves into scoring position where only a touchdown would do. They had no timeouts, either.

But on the first play of the drive, Central's QB Gemara Higdon threw a pick to North's Brett Motley and that about ended it right there, as he returned the pick for a touchdown. What it comes down to, is that North took Central pretty lightly and almost got beat in a game where the stakes were a lot higher than bragging rights. Higdon has a wet noodle for an arm and their inability to get downfield really hurt them, as North stacked the line and blitzed so much that the running game never got going and Higdon had no time to get comfortable in the pocket.

Condotti-Vanguard (4-1) @ Lake City (3-1)

Another week, another thriller. Condotti-Vanguard is good, but on this day in Lake City, the Cardinals were simply better.

The Knights failed to capitalize on opportunities including a missed field goal to end the first half. But nothing could prepare them for the botched play at the end of the game that was the giveaway for the Cardinals.

Lake City (4-1) intercepted a pass with about 23 seconds to go, to give the Cardinals a 7 point lead and with it, a 27-21 victory against the Knights of Condotti-Vanguard.

<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i218.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid218.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/Dynasty_DC/991A0001_5_FLV_VIDEO_qtb.flv">

If Condotti-Vanguard (4-2) can keep their offense going strong and minimize mistakes though, they ought to be a factor in the Eastern Division race. By no means is their season over, in my mind, based on how they played here, they just went up against a strong Western Division opponent who took them to the test and came away with the victory on this night.

I have no idea what the tiebreaker scenarios are, but if Evergreen and North both need that win and only one can get it. So there will be some sort of elaborate tiebreaker in the other division, depending on the winner of that game, I presume.

Damn, Hacienda missed out on the State championship. So close.

Choking on the Three Lakes game cost them. I mean, how do you manage to beat North and Central in the same year and then choke when you've got the driver's seat to the state title?

I was frustrated to see that.

I'm checking out the North v. Winchell County game. It's being played at CityBanc Field, which is probably ridiculously unfair to the poor schlubs from Winchell County, but that being said, so far...I have to say that North is really, really good. Like, better than any team I've seen this year.

Their running back Craig Dailey (So.) and QB Travis Dennis (So.) are the real deal and they just move around the field like it's no joke. Well except when Dailey isn't fumbling. He had the dropsies today, fumbling twice. But Winchell never capitalized on either of them.

After halftime, the score was 14-0 San Alberto North.

Young Drachma

On the first play of the second half, Travis Dennis threw a interception that Winchell ran back for the TD, to make the score 14-7.

Another score by North made it 21-7 and driving down the field, Dennis threw another pick that led to a Winchell score, leaving it 21-14, North.

But a 97-yard kickoff return by North made it 28-14 with 1:53 left in the 4th quarter. Winchell rebounded though to score again and made it 28-21 with about a minute to go in the game.

With 24 seconds to go, North kicked a 43-yard field goal which made it 31-21 and sealed the victory for the North Wildcats!

San Alberto North are 2009 State Champions!

It's Season 2 and I've decided to just take over a team for an entire season, because it's easier that way.

This season, I've decided to take over Brennan High School in Brennan County. Brennan is a 1A school that's never won a state championship before. So this is going to be something of a daunting task, but I feel like they've got a good shot to do something after last season.

I don't do any of the recruiting, so it's all handled by the AI for all teams, btw.

We'll do a tour of Brennan and then I'll get into the season action, I guess.

Brennan County is wedged between San Alberto County and Winchell County. It's largely exurban these days, with a contigent that's more suburban, with exiles from San Alberto and to the north, a host of hamlet communities.

Brennan HS is the oldest high school in the county and serves most of the communities there. It's also the only one with a football team.

After going undefeated in non-conference games so far this year (3-0), the Bears of Brennan start the conference season at home against Governors School.

The team went 4-6 last year and 1-6 in conference, so there's nowhere to go but up, but it seems like the players have learned and fans are cautiously optimistic that this could be the breakout year for the squad.

Here's the Brennan HS Bears schedule:

WEEK 1: BYE
WEEK 2: East (W, 48-7)
WEEK 3: Northwest (W, 38-3)
WEEK 4: @ Valley HS (W, 27-3)
WEEK 5: Governors School
WEEK 6: @ Central
WEEK 7: Hacienda
WEEK 8: Evergreen
WEEK 9: @ Winchell County
WEEK 10: Navy Prep
WEEK 11: North (San Alberto)
WEEK 12: Condotti-Vanguard
WEEK 13: @ Simmons
WEEK 14: BYE
WEEK 15: BYE

Favorable schedule with lots of home contests after a busy year last year on the road in the league half of the team's schedule.

Here are the key players on the ballclub:

QB Ryan Hoffman (Jr.)
He already has almost as many TDs in 3 games this year (11) than he had all of last year (12). He seems to have brought it all together and it'll be exciting to see him on the field.

HB Sam Berry (Jr.)
Not really a team known for its massive rushing attack, Berry is a weapon nonetheless. He's got 423 yards rushing on the season in the first three games (averaging 141 YPG so far this year) and just one rushing TD, but he's the sort of guy that can change the way the game plays in a hurry.

WR Andy Lee (Sr.)
He's already got 4 TDs on the year and has caught for 287 yards through the first three games. Part of a pretty deep corps of receivers, he's the sort of playmaker that we like to see.

WR Zach Reyes (Jr.)
He's caught 3 TDs already this year and is averaging 9.5 yards per catch on the season.

DT Justin Kendrick (Jr.)
He's logged 15 tackles (5 for a loss) and 2 sacks on the year so far.

ROLB Clint Robison (Sr.)
14 tackles through the first three games, is the sort of guy the team is counting on as the league season gets kicked off.

GOVERNORS SCHOOL (2-0) @ BRENNAN (3-0)

Conference play is going to really give us a gauge of whether this team is serious or not. Running up the score on non-league opponents doesn't say much about METRO League teams and so, really, we're going to check it all out here.

WHO TO WATCH FOR: The G-Men have a killer QB in Senior Joe Perkins. He's thrown for 730 yards and 9 TDs so far this season with no picks. That's in two games mind you, so he might have designs on abusing the hell out of the Brennan secondary with their triple threat of receivers in Chaz Hudson, Andre Preston and Braylon Meeks who together already have 10 TDs on the year.

It'll be a tough test for the Bears. We'll see if they're ready.

Young Drachma
09-27-2009, 09:35 PM
Sam Berry is a monster. Really, I can't trust high school QBs because unless the team is killer, they're just too damn inconsistent.

So I put a lot on the shoulders of this kid to run the Bears into this game and he did just that with two big runs at critical points of the game.

After a fumble that gave the Statesmen a lead in the 3rd quarter, he redeemed himself with a 62 yard TD run with 2:34 in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 17-17 at Old Cub Field.

That gave Governors School Statesman and their high octane offense a chance to score, but the Bears defense held them to 3 and out after they ran to about midfield.

With a minute to go in the 4th quarter, the Bears offense needs to get within field goal range to avoid overtime or better yet, avoid making mistakes that gave the ball back to the Statesman who would surely know how to convert if giving another opportunity.

Sure enough, it didn't happen. Three and out and we had to punt it to Governors School squad that made us pay. With 5 seconds left, Joe Perkins threw a 65-yard bomb to Andre Preston to put the Statesmen up 24-17 and sure enough that's how the game would end.

THE GOOD NEWS: Brennan is for real. Governors School is a tough team. Even though Brennan beat them last year, this game was no walkover and if they're going to be a factor in the 1A/2A state championship race this year, these are the kinds of games that the Bears need to finish off.

THE BAD NEWS: The offense doesn't produce against top caliber teams like it needs to in order to win these kinds of games. Offensively, the running game did it's job, but the passing game was DOA. That has to change.

Ryan Hoffman was 18-31 for 319 yards passing and 2 TDs. Sam Berry chipped in 79 yards rushing on 21 attempts and 108 yards receiving and a TD. WR Andy Lee caught 6 balls for 106 yards and a score.

The Brennan train gets back on track after last week's setback against The Governors School.

The story is something like this. Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, if we can win out (a tall test, mind you) we still control our own destiny, because Governors School lost a conference game, so if we can beat Condotti-Vanguard then we'll likely win the small school state title and face off against someone else in the state championship.

Again, far away, but...it's good to have our eyes on the prize. But we can't go dropping games in any case.

I was very proud to be a Bear tonight. The faithful were out in red and brown and despite being down 21-0, the Bears fight on, came back and put on a show for the faithful at home.

Sam Berry had 11 carries for 270 yards and a school record 5 touchdowns. The Hacienda defense had NO ANSWER for the Brennan rushing attack.

That's the story, really. No throwing, no nothing. The ground game owned and as a result, the Bears stay on track heading into the heart of their schedule.

After the Winchell County game, I simmed the Navy Prep game that we won 16-10. Three games left and they're all conference games. We pretty much need to win all of them to ensure we win the state title. We do indeed control our own destiny, because we're a game behind Condotti-Vanguard.

So we'll see how it goes the rest of the way out. San Alberto North is undefeated, so that's the toughest game on the schedule, Condotti-Vanguard only has one loss to date, so they're not going to be a pushover either.

WEEK 11: Brennan 35, North 14
The Bears rushing attack was too much for San Alberto North who looked unsettled the whole game. Sam Berry had six carries for 248 yards and 4 TDs. It's the first time that Brennan has beat North in eleven years. Brennan is legit.

Young Drachma

So it all comes down to this. Winner of the Brennan-Condotti Vanguard game, with the winner claiming the 1A/2A state championship, as The Governors School would likely need help to claim the title in the end.

Brennan (10-1) 39, Condotti-Vanguard (8-3) 29

Ryan Hoffman went 13 for 17 for 240 yards passing with a touchdown. Sam Berry had 9 carries for 209 yards and 4 TDs in the win. The win gave the Bears their school record tenth win of the season. Barring a loss at Simmons (4-6, 1-6) this coming week, the Bears should have clinched their first EVER 1A/2A State Championship!!!!!

Brennan (11-1) 28, Simmons (4-7) 10
Ryan Hoffman had a big passing day, completing 21 of 37 for 299 yards passing and 61 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Sam Berry chipped in 101 yards rushing, as the Brennan Bears win their first ever State Championship. Knocking off Hacienda and North in the same year is downright astounding and this year's team really has proven that anything is possible. Now, we'll have to see after Week 13, who will represent the 3A/4A division in the State Championship game.

Young Drachma

JEFFERSON HS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
3A/4A Champions v. 1A/2A Champions
San Alberto North (10-1) @ Brennan (11-1)

So it's a rematch. North will be drawing for blood in an attempt to repeat as Jefferson State Champions and downright incensed that they lost a game to a team they consider massively inferior, this one will be an all-out war.

Brennan never, ever expected to be in this position after winning just one conference game a year ago. But here they are. High school players can be so unpredictable, but the thing I've noticed about Brennan is that it's just a team effort in each game and a bunch of guys working together on all cylinders to do the unthinkable week in and week out.

That said, North is no joke and I think it might be really hard to beat them twice in one season, so if the Bears go down, the 1A/2A Division State Championship isn't a bad salve to their wound, neither is hosting the state championship for the first time ever.

Young Drachma
09-28-2009, 02:10 AM
At halftime, Brennan leads 25-14. Brennan outgained North in total offense 333 to 180.

But in the second half, after an interception by Brennan that North failed to convert on, the North defense locked down and the offense capitalized and scored to make the score 25-21 with 1:34 left in the third quarter and remained that into the 4th quarter.

After another ill-advised missed field goal, North capitalized to go ahead 28-25 with 4:33 left in the 4th quarter. North stopped Brennan on 4th down on the next possession and scored again to take a 35-25 lead with 2:46 left in the game.

Brennan converted on the 4th down that would've ended their season and eventually scored and made the two-point conversion. With 1:43 left in the game, they were down 35-33 to North in another barn burner of a game...

Young Drachma
