View Full Version : Terrell Pryor (Did He Really Say That?)

After wearing "Mica Vick" in his eyeblack.

When asked about this, this was Pryor's quote about the eye black, SERIOUSLY... “I'm just going to be very short and sweet with it but I just feel that he made his mistake and he just needs more support. Nobody’s a perfect person in the world. Everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, and I just feel that people need to give him a chance. I always looked up to Mike Vick and I always will just because I think he’s one of the best quarterbacks. I love Mike Vick and I look up to him a lot.”

I love the part about how we all kill people.

No, I let him live. He almost killed me with his smell, though.

When you add in Maurice Clarrett, it doesn't take much to get into OSU these days, does it?

No more than any other state school. Sadly.

Heh, to be fair, I don't attach this to OSU, just Pryor. I think it's just a 19 year old kid who didn't think before acting, and getting called on it. Then, under pressure, responded rather oddly.

*shrug* I can only speak for myself, but I know that I've certainly killed people and stolen from Terrell Pryor.

Not sure where you got your quote from but its different than that of what ESPN shows.

"I always looked up to Mike Vick and I always will, because I still think he is one of the best quarterbacks," Pryor said. "I love Mike Vick."

"I know what happened with him and, I mean, I don't want to talk much," Pryor said. "I'm just going to be very short and sweet with it but I just feel he made his mistake and I think he just needs more support."

"Not everybody is the perfect person in the world," Pryor said of Vick. "Everyone does -- kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me. I just feel that people need to give him a chance."

Perhaps he is not adept in the fine points of spewing politically correct robot answers at all times, but to castigate him for the main point of "I still look up to Mike Vick for his athletic abilities, we should give him a second chance, and no one in the world is free of sin or mistakes" is asinine.

I don't know why a college coach would let players write whatever they want on those strips. Seems like your just asking for troubles letting 19/20/21 year olds make whatever statement they wish on national television.

While I'm sure it's fun to make fun of Terrelle Preyor for the way he stated his argument, it's really not that much different than the arguments for Vick we've seen on various threads here.

why is it asinine? because he's an OSU kid? i'd say the same about a kid from any school

And to attempt to defend him for sounding like a complete moron while defending a worthless piece of shit like Vick is well beyond asinine.

I'm going to go with the "Everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me" line as what makes him look particularly stupid, above and beyond the average athlete. Have you ever killed or murdered a person? Me neither. Know anyone who kills people? Yeah, so everyone kills and everyone steals- I'm not sure where that comes from.

I understand it was a horrible word choice, but lets be honest, we know he didnt mean everyone....

BTW still a stupid thing to say.

Well, in a way, he's right. Don't we all shoot people or stab or them or beat them or run them over in video games with the intent to kill? And haven't we all downloaded an mp3 that we didn't pay for?

You're going to try to equate doing something in a video game to real life?

If Chief Rum's quote is correct, then yes he made a major mistake in wording but to equate an admiration of his athletic ability and accomplishments with a validation or affirmation of Vick's moral integrity is an extreme example of reading between the lines.

See, this is like the whole "Jesse Helms is a racist fuckwhit" thread. You can't just take bits and pieces of someone. Mike Vick is a very talented athlete, but he's also a horrible human being. I hope He learned a lot and becomes more, but to admire Mike Vick is just fucking stupid.

LEts take this in another direction, ME for example, since everyone thinks I'm a self centered attention whore anyway.

I hope no one ever "admires" me. I hope those that know me and have known me in my life can learn from my mistakes and how I dealt with everything in my life. Even if its only "holy shit I'm never gonna be that fucking stupid" I hope people enevr look at how my life went and admire how I got where I am because I've never been a great person in general. You can't seperate the times that I HAVE been great with all the times I've been a fuckup.

Meh, he's a dumbass. Thank God he's a good athlete to give him some other opportunities to make up for his lack of intelligence.

Render I disagree, as no one in this world is perfect to admire, love or, even respect someone is to appreciate their strengths while being cognizant of their limitations. Why must Vick's dog fighting transgressions negate his athletic abilities or accomplishments? That makes no sense and I am definitely not saying his issues should be ignored but for a 19 year old quarterback to continue to admire the athletic exploits of someone he grew up watching on television while suggesting that he should be given a second chance by society may reflect nothing more than youthful naivety untarnished by your adult cynicism.

I suppose then it comes down to what you expect of someone you respect then.

Vick could be Superman wrapped in jesus' second coming, but after what he's done he'd still being a worthless piece of shit and not someone worthy of admiration under any circumstances as far as I'm concerned.

Its all well and good that some people still want to support him, but the gravity of his offenses speak far more about who Mike Vick is as a human being than anything his athletic ability will ever be able to compensate for.

Athletes are a dime a dozen, no matter how amazing his feats may be on the field in 10 years he's gonna be just another schmuck out in the world living his life and that schmuck is gonna be plain old Mike Vick the guy who thought it was ok for YEARS to set dogs on one another to kill themselves for his and his friends entertainment.

He's a scumbag of ridiculous levels and there is nothing about him I think the youth of this world should "admire".

While I understand admiration of athletic ability and all that crap...is there not a line that is drawn on admiring people at some point? Or should we start applying that to intellectual ability as well?

Meaning...should debate club champions start professing their admiration of Charles Manson's inate ability to influence others? Or Ted Bundy's wonderful charm and charisma? How about NRA members admiring Lee Harvey Oswald's marksmanship?

I realize that one can argue that their abilities were used to kill people rather than just being ancillary to their crimes...but everybody kills people and stuff.

Render, I am appalled by his actions as well but it is possible to admire his athletic abilities and past accomplishments while not condoning his vicious acts.

SteveMax58, that seems like a strawman because Vick's athletic ability had nothing to do with his crimes. He didn't use his athletic ability to kill someone on the field, the acts with dogs are unrelated to his athletic accomplishments. Manson, Bundy, Oswald, and whoever else you feel like bringing up used their attributes specifically to commit evil. Mike Vick in one domain was an extremely talented athlete and in another domain was an abuser and murderer of animals.

With all that said, I do not agree with Pryor's choice of wording or script on his eye black, as I disagree with the portrait of Vick as some type of tragic hero. All too often in our society we ignore explicit displays of a lack of morality or conscience, and while Mike Vick deserves a second chance, it is a bit idiotic for a college athlete to make that type of tribute to him or his "struggle".
