Here are the rules.

You just got a call telling you that They are coming to get you! How can you get away without retracing any part of the path that got you here? Once you are safely on the ground outside you're safe, for now.

There's only one way into my office and I can't break through the cinder block walls.
I open my window.
Knock out the screen.
Squeeze through the small opening and get on the roof.
Run south across the roof.
Drop a little more than one story onto the dumpster. (This could end in injury)
Hop off the dumpster onto the ground and run for safety.

This one's easy for me. Open the ground floor window right next to me. Pop out the screen. Dive through the window. Run like hell.

What do I win?

uhh well since i'm up on the 4th floor it would be a bad jump down onto concrete. i'd also have to bust out this window first...wouldn't be fun.

there's an elevator and a staircase and a fire-staircase though.

soon i'll be in a ground floor office with a window.

I call my lawyer. :D

Currently? There are multiple exits from this building that don't require me to retrace my steps, due to fire code. Boringly easy. :D

My escape would be more challenging. The only exit that wouldn't require me to retrace my steps would be out our 5th story windows. Ours are among the few that open. The challenge would be that, once I climbed out on the ledge, there are snipers more or less permanently stationed on the Capitol building across the street with a clean shot.

Assuming they miss, I can kick open my boss's window and go out his door into the hallway, down the stairs and out the door.

I'd find out pretty quickly if I was the star of the film or not. The red shirt gets hit by the sniper and makes a spectacular 5-story fall onto Independence Avenue.

I'm at home, with only the one entrance. I unlock the window gate & hope they aren't smart enough to cover the only window in my apartment.

I took the elevator up and the north pathway to my cube, so south pathway out and down the stairs. Bitches.

Well I have no exits to my office other then the door I enter... If I was able to at least get to my door I have about 3 different exits I could utilize that are different then the one I used to enter. Plus 2 full walls of windows to break if needed.

Only pussies run away. I grab the sawed-off shotgun under my desk and wait for the bastards to try and get me.

I lock the front door head down into the basement, locking the side entrance on my way down teh stairs.

I then head out the back end of the house from the basement and run like hell through about 50 yards until I feel safe.

Point and laugh as I watch them try and get through 3 locked doors, avoid the videocameras, and dodge the at least 2 or 3 parole officers who are always around here.

We run the Dept of Corrections' offender tracking system / call center for 3 states. There's just a few cops around here most days. :)

edit: Which, ironically, my job makes me essentially immune to jury selection. Since we directly make money for every person sent to jail, I have a vested financial interest in any case. Found that kinda amusing.

Could just kick out the screen on the window next to me and take to the porch roof, slide down the tree next to it. But that would be in full view of the front yard and road, probably wouldn't work.

I'd have to head up the stairs to the attic, through the storage room, kick out the screen, climb onto the roof of the addition. Head across it, climb up onto the higher section, to the back of the house, drop down onto the bermed earth and head over the back fence. Then the mad scramble through town, hiding in bushes along the way.

Go out the bathroom window, onto the roof, climb down the tree and into the backyard.

I am in a level 5 government building. If they did happen to get by the large sliding entrance gate (designed to stop a semi-truck), got past the 5 armed guards in the lobby, managed to get the elevator working (only works with a key pass), and managed to get to my office (requires two more uses of a key pass), then I would say that I am pretty much screwed at that point.

I guess the real question here is how long would it take you to get out of the building? A couple of hours at the minimum? ;)
