I dunno what the big news is this week. I guess Marion Barber is hurt or something. Crabtree is still sitting at home.
I don't think it's a must win for the Titans, yet, but at 0-2 they gotta start doing some work.
The Browns play the Ravens. I think that makes Maghee, Rice and McLain all viable fantasy options. I mean, they made Buckhalter look like college Reggie Bush last week.

If Crabby sits out & re-enters the draft, is he drafted in Rd 1?
I'd love to see him drafted in mid 2nd & demand top $$$.

Saints at Bills. Assuming that Trent Edwards does not get trapped under something before game time, it will be the first time this season that the Saints play a QB who has started an NFL game.
And, as a side note, you know that two small market teams are playing when they are both East Coast teams and the NFL schedule still sticks them with a 4:00 game.

Under normal circumstances there is no way he would have a chance to make up the money he losses sitting out this year.
Then it seams that nobody really knows because of the possibility for an uncapped year. Found this info on Crabtree from Adam Schefter.
If Goodell did away with the rookie salary cap in the spring, one of the players that would be most directly impacted would be holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree. Some league executives believe that Crabtree's situation could turn into one straight out of baseball, similar to what Stephen Strasburg went through with the Washington Nationals. Strasburg told the team what he wanted, and teams around baseball knew it. Some believe that, if Crabtree were to re-enter a draft without a rookie pool, he could tell teams his price and essentially tell teams not to bother drafting him unless they're willing to meet his demands. Plenty would have to happen to reach that point, but it's not inconceivable that it will.
Really looking forward to the Vikings-49ers game this week. Adrian Peterson vs. Patrick Willis will be great to watch.

Not sure you've got an argument here - Redskins @ Giants was at 4:00 in week 1.

Bengals/Steelers... the Steelers have not been able to run the ball, and for once the Bengals actually have a defense for this game though they are not the pass rushing machine that the leaky Packers line made them out to be. I'm expecting 13-10 or something like that, and hoping against a 28-9 type Steelers domination.
I'm also hoping that someone proves the Ravens to be a fluke, because they just kinda piss me off generally speaking.

I stand corrected. The lesson, as always, is I have no idea how the NFL decides what games to play and when to play them and where to show them. It's like advanced calculus to figure out sometimes.

Now THAT logic I can get behind ;).
To be fair - your logic may be right. And they just want that game stacked against some other big national game, like the WAS @ NYG game was. I have no idea.

The Steelers are pissing me off with their pitiful offensive line and no running game. They rely too much on their defense and Ben. More balance is needed. This will be a close game, and I would not at all be surprised to see Cinci win it.

I know it would never happen, but I would love to see him go undrafted. Too many douches in the league already.

Giants go on the road to Tampa. A little worried about a letdown on the road here, but the best QB in the known universe will get it done.
I would like to see Jacobs get on track. considering Manningham and Smith both had over 100 yards last week the Bucs will have to change their gameplan a bit so that should open things up for the running game.
After Tampa comes KC and Oakland at home, so get past this game and it looks like 5-0.

Outside of the Broncos/Raiders game (for obvious reasons), the game that interests me the most is the Falcons/Patriots.
This is a chance for the Falcons to fully announce that they've arrived. Beating the Dolphins and the Panthers is nice and all, but you go on the road and beat the Patriots, you've done something. As for the Patriots, I still believe they have a ton of holes on defense, but more than that I want to see how they respond to a defeat. This is a team that's lost back to back games once since 2003.
The 49ers/Vikings, Titans/Jets and Panthers/Cowboys are all interesting games to me as well.

I'm excited to see the Falcons up here this week. Really looking forward to this week's game as I think the Patriots defense has looked suspect when a team is willing to make good decisions against them. I am looking forward to seeing what the Falcons offense can do.
The only thing I fear is that the Falcons defense is not that great and we end up with a 35-31 type game where the team with the ball last wins.

Well considering only 1.6% of teams that start 0-3 have EVER made the playoffs going back to 1960 this is pretty near a must win. They loss this one they have games away @ Jags ,Colts @home and @NE. It looks like that lmeans 2-4 at best 0-6 at the worst which equals season over.

I remember when McCarthy was offensive coordinator of the Saints. He was great at drawing up plays 1, but was stubborn as a mule. He struck you as the kind of guy who would rather lose than change his system. Kind of a junior Mike Martz.
And, with that in mind, I feel for Rogers. Clearly, the Packers need to change their system to account for the fact that young QBs who get sacked a bunch become David Carr. But I can see McCarthy convincing himself that his plays are genuis and that the problem is his players not executing. And the thing is, he might even be right. But a better coach would accept the reality of his players and adapt his system to it. Unless he has matured a bit, McCarthy is not that coach. Bet the over on Rogers' career concussions before Vegas catches on.
1. I mean, the guy made Aaron freakin' Brooks look like a decent QB for a couple of years. He has mad play calling skills.

Honestly, I think that it will depend on if Carolina has a good enough draft choice to go QB. I think that Cowher spent enough time in Pittsburgh with bad QBs that he would not want to go through that again. If he can coach with Big Ben again (McCoy, Bradford), he would probably jump at the chance. If he has to live through Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox again (Jake Delhomme), he'll say thanks but no. Just my 2c.

well they have no 1st rounder in next year's draft I believe thanks to that stupid trade they did with SF during this year's draft. Cowher seems a logical choice for Carolina, but I was surprised when he returned to TV this year and he seems to enjoy doing it.

Former Cowboys legend Tony Dorsett spoke out on Monday against Tony Romo (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/1739) and his play at quarterback. He joined Fox Sports Radio to talk about how Tony Romo (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/1739) is not worthy of all the accolades he receives. "Well, for one thing, I don't know why on God's earth Tony Romo (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/1739) has been anointed a superstar in the National Football League. Tony is very young in his career. Not to say you can't be young in your career and be a superstar because you've got one up there in Minnesota in Adrian Peterson (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/7788). But the thing is this: you have a guy who hasn't done much and quarterbacks in the National Football League, most of them go through this growing curve. He hasn't gone through that growing curve, but he was anointed this great player all of a sudden."

It think the most relevant thing about the Dorsett (non)story is the phrase "former Cowboys legend". This seems for all the world like a guy missing the spotlight trying to get a few minutes back & the best he could manage was FSR time instead of the invite to Dancing With the Stars I suspect he really wanted.

Romo gets attention because he was an undrafted FA and after 3 seasons he has a 94.2 QB rating. Anyone else who put up those kind of numbers in their first three seasons as a starter would be justly praised, but Romo gets shit on for some reason.

But winning the big one is such a stupid criteria. As I pointed out a while back, Eli had only led the Giants to 3 points through 3 quarters in his Superbowl. What would the average expected score be for any other team vs. the Patriots that year? I mean, he could have played exactly the same and the Giants be down 30-3 with Jared Lorenzen warming up. It's great that he led that final drive, but he was lucky he even had that chance.
Jim Kelly is a "winner" if Norwood's kick sails through. Tom Brady is a "loser" who "can't get it done" if Viniateri misses all those kicks. Brett Favre is a "winner" because one year in his career with the league's #1 defense backing him, he did not choke.
Labeling a guy with a 94.2 career QB rating as a loser because he failed in his first two postseason games is ridiculous.

I would say Sunday night was a big game and he choked big time. And what about that embarrassment to end the season vs. the Eagles last year? 183 yeards, no TD's, 1 int, 2 fumbles lost. Or week 16 last year against the Ravens, threw 2 picks at home and lose. @ losses in a row to end the season when they had a chance to clinch. Instead they go 9-7. So thats 5 big games he didn't get the job done.
And when you play QB for the Dallas Cowboys you are judged on playoff performances.

This is so incorrect.
Part of the reason why the Pats only have 7 points through 3 quarters is because Eli didn't make stupid mistakes and put his defense in bad spots.
Even I wouldn't be so dumb as to say the defense isn't the main reason the Giants won, but Eli stepped up in the 4th quarter, and where Romo would have fumbled or thrown a pick Eli led his team on a TD drive.

LOL you are so delusional. Counting a week 2 game as a "big game" has got to be one of the most bogus ways to support an argument I've seen.
I mean, if you're going to do that, why don't we look at his week 2 game against Philadelphia last year, when he went 21-30-312-3-1? Or the three game winning stretch against the NFC East last year (with wins @ PHI, @ NYG) where he threw 11 TD's and essentially clinched the division? You are insane if you don't think Romo and that whole organization didn't think Sunday's game was a big game. If you don't think there was added pressure you are out of your mind.

Uh, defenses didn't need to be in bad spots that year for the Patriots offense to rape them. For a relevant example, see the game the Cowboys played against them in the regular season, Romo only threw 1 pick (same as Eli in the Superbowl), but the defense gave up 48 points. In 2008, any time you punted against the Patriots, you put your defense in a bad position.
Even I wouldn't be so dumb as to say the defense isn't the main reason the Giants won, but Eli stepped up in the 4th quarter, and where Romo would have fumbled or thrown a pick Eli led his team on a TD drive.

And I'm saying that after 3 years, I think it's a little early to be so certain about that. After all, Eli himself was dreadful (much worse than Romo) in his first two postseason games.
Would you agree, however, that as of right now, if Romo was put in that situation, or any kind of big time pressure spot, you can't say you would feel confident he's gonna get it done. I'll admit, as much as I dislike Romo and the Cowboys, you can't really argue with his numbers (I should add, I'm not really a numbers guy, I'll take the guy who can get it done when it counts), and he still has time to develop into a complete QB, but as of today, I, along with the majority of America (according to the sportsnation polls), am certain Romo can't get it done when it counts.

Kelly didn't lose the game for his team by imploding, it was Norwood's fault. Same thing with Brady. If Viniateri misses those kicks, he is the one that gets blamed, not Brady.
LOL you are so delusional. Counting a week 2 game as a "big game" has got to be one of the most bogus ways to support an argument I've seen.
This season's week 2 game was a big game because of the new stadium being opened up by Jerry Jones. Don't kid yourself, this was a HUGE game for the Cowboys, and you have to know that Jones is quite pissed that the unveiling of his legacy (he admitted as much) was tainted by a loss. A loss that could, and should, be placed on the shoulders of Romo (the defense didn't look very either though).
Huh? Who gives a fuck who he plays for?
It makes a big difference actually. Do you really think that Romo would get the same attention, positive or negative, if he played for Seattle? Or Tampa Bay? What about Jacksonville? Some teams, and subsequently their players, are held to higher standards and more is expected of them. Dallas is one of those teams.
I'm just talking about whether the guy deserves to get shit on as much as he does. And I think it's ridiculous to shit on a QB who has three straight seasons of 90+ QB rating just because he failed in the first two postseason games of his career.
I am not sure how Romo is being "shit" on as you have mentioned several times. I see it as him being justly criticized for his poor performance when it matters. Big games, playoff games, etc..
He received a lot of credit before he actually did anything, and now his dues need to be paid. I think he can still succeed, but I would not rate him in the top 10 QB's in the NFL right now.

Well, apparently Tuck's shoulder is not nearly as big a deal as Phillips' knee, as he's shelved for the season. That's a pretty big blow, really looked like he was poised to take his game to the next level this yr and be a big playmaker on defense, not to mention that Ross and Dockery have been out thus far and, from what i read, aren't gonna be ready this weekend, either.

Bill Simmons on the Detroit blackout with the interesting point that the blackout rules may start backfiring on the NFL:
Thanks to the blackout, Detroit fans now get treated to a much better game: Niners-Vikings. For gamblers, fantasy addicts and general football addicts in the Detroit area, what would you rather watch: your decrepitly hopeless team gunning for its 20th straight defeat, or two playoff teams battling with about 10 fantasy guys involved? I'm voting for Niners-Vikes! By refusing to turn out for the Lions, Detroit fans shrewdly improved their own viewing options and inspired downtrodden NFL cities across America to do the same. Now that's a great call of the week.

While I have three fantasy teams (one with Favre, one with Harvin, and one with Peterson), I am not a gambler and would still much prefer to watch the Lions than Minn-SF. If I wasn't going to the game, I would likely listen to at least some of it on the radio a opposed to watching the other game.

The Lions have been "sad" for a long, long time now. It's not like they had some great height to fall from say, since, the 1950's. While the economy certainly isn't helping ticket sales, if this team was even mediocre they would sell out Ford Field. But the last half of 2007 (1-7), all of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 have given no one anything to be excited about or even interested in. Calvin Johnson is amazing, but after that... it's poop.
As for the Redskins, a friend of mine from DC who is a long-time Redskins fan (been to every Super Bowl they've played in, has two sets of season tickets, etc.) was going to come in for the game, but isn't because after last week's game thinks the Redskins "look really horrible" and "it would just be too painful to watch the Redskins become the first team to lose to the Lions since '07."
I guess there is all kind of talk about how losing to the Lions this week would crush the Redskins and could lead to Jim Zorn getting fired and what not. I really would love to see that happen, since I am no fan of that team, but I don't think it will. The Lions are really, really bad still.

Honestly the NFL is going to continue having a tough time selling tickets. Between the stratospheric prices to attend a game and the advent of high definition and surround sound greatly improving the at-home experience, actually attending a live contest is becoming less and less appealing.

Honestly the NFL is going to continue having a tough time selling tickets. Between the stratospheric prices to attend a game and the advent of high definition and surround sound greatly improving the at-home experience, actually attending a live contest is becoming less and less appealing.
Yeah-Buy 4 season tickets for the family, you're easily at 5K or therabouts after parking, concessions, etc. And that's only for 8 weeks.
-or-
Buy 60" Plasma(2000ish), Direct TV and NFL Package(1400ish for the year), a couple recliners(1500) and some snacks.
Plus the TV and recliners still work the next season.

Kinda sad to see how sad things have gotten for the Lions AND the Redskins. How far has the Skins reputation fallen that they don't sellout a game anywhere they go? When I was growing up the Redskins was a prime ticket going for high prices wether they were playing Dallas or Cleveland or Arizona. Everyone wanted to see them play.
Now....suckage. its kinda sad.
The Lions are 2-21 against the Redskins since 1966, plus the Lions have lost 19 in a row overall. I don't know if they would sell out any non divisional opponent right now.

Am I crazy for thinking the Bengals SHOULD win? They were terrible in week one, and still almost (and should have) won. They beat what I expected to be a fairly good Packer team on the road in week 2. What I've seen from Pittsburgh hasn't impressed me, they could easily be 0-2, and can't run the ball. It's a huge game for the Bengals, if they win this game, as terrible as it sounds, the whole city is back on board, if they lose......it'll be everyone say, same ole, same ole.
How does the Red Zone channel handle blacked-out games?

Tom Brady sucks! :D.
Still overthrowing some guys. But there were a few media guys not slobbering all over him during the preseason that said he would be overthrowing recievers for a few weeks as he gets used to planting with that knee.
Still have high expectations for Brady and the Pats this year. It's funny watching all the spoiled NE fans acting like the end is nigh though. I still like the defense. Some may bemoan the turnover, but I like the youth and change. They aren't at their best yet, but I haven't seen them cover ground or lay hits like they are doing since their super bowl runs. They just don't seem to have the ability or desire to blitz.

Every Vikings fan in the USA needs to send Mark Roman a dozen roses. That guy is absolutely terrible, and has no idea how to play the deep ball. He was single handedely responsible for at least 1,000 passing yards and countless TD's last year, and this year he's solely responsible for allowing the Vikings to score a TD with :02 remaining. When you watch the replay, look at the 49er defender, who is just standing there like he has no idea what he's supposed to do, with one hand reaching out.
Un-fucking believable. Mark Roman, who the 49ers tried to trade this offseason because he was so terrible, but not a single team in the NFL was interested. Why does he still have a job? I would be very, very surprised if he wasn't cut this week. He's a liability everytime he's on the field.

Packers were crap today for most of the game, they won because it was the Rams who were just as crappy in their own special way (and had Boller at QB on top of it). Unless a miracle happens to our offensive line, this team will not win the division and Rodgers may die next week in Minnesota or sometime shortly after. The defense is inconsistent as well, good at getting turnovers but good at giving up some running yardage and yardage on broken plays.
I will give the Vikings the division now. Better them then the Bears I guess. At least they have Favre and Longwell, who I can't totally dislike.

They went 80 yards in 1:29...surely Favre gets credit for that.
Also he was taking a lot of checkdowns to Chester Taylor and shorter throws over the middle in situations where many of us would have expected him to force bad long balls more often than not, his decision making seemed quite sound. I thought he had a solid game.

Meh, I would expect any QB who is a backup or better in the NFL to be able to hit wideouts with a 7-10 yard cushion. The deciding factors of the game were the Kickoff return for a TD, the dropped sure pick six by Dre Bly with 2 minutes left, and Mark Roman not quite understanding what "deep quarters" coverage means.

Favre should get credit for that. I simply think it's out of line to call people "douches" because of an amazing play in week 3, especially in light of how last year went.

I don't even care. I'm just happy they finally won one damned game. I'm saving this one on my Tivo.
Did you see Peterman (or whoever) crying his eyes out?
Nope. I watched the last few minutes online... I'll see the full game tonight on NFL Rewind (paid $50 to watch these games & haven't missed a play yet!)

Dolphins up 6-3, but wasting opportunities. It should be 17-3.

i think this might mark the end of the Galloway-experiment in NE. He just can't seem to get on the same page as Brady (that being said Brady had some bad misses today too). Pats are looking awful in the Red Zone - as I said last week I wonder how much of that is the absence of Welker...
Fred Taylor also needs to be the starting RB. The guy is a monster - he was strong last week when they ran him against the Jets and he was huge today (albeit against an Atlanta D that is soft on the run)

Wallace seems to have already moved ahead of Sweed as the #3 receiver. Sweed needs to get his crap together soon, or he is going to end up behind Shaun McDonald, too. It's a shame, Sweed reminds me a lot of Nate Washington during his first couple of seasons, but Washington didn't have near the expectations that Sweed does as a high pick.

The challenge with Taylor has always been keeping him alive for a full season. Pats would be wise to use him sparingly until (assuming they make it) the playoffs.

I suppose that's true. Fortunately they seem to maybe have enough depth at RB...

Dolphins down 10-6, but as we learned last week, the only thing that matters is time of possession, and I think they're still winning that. I hope they don't get an 80 yard TD because that would be bad.

The Vikings could have easily blown the 9ers out if it weren't for the blocked field goal returned for a touchdown with no time remaining in the first half. I held my ground and said the Vikes would pull out a win and they did so in amazing fashion.

Run offense and run defense are solid. Pass offense and defense are miserable. We'd be great if this was Leatherheads.

Bengals finish off a terrific drive with a TD to go up 23-20, pissing off the fans (who were laughing at me earlier) at this Steelers bar I've been watching the game at, somewhat calming my mood.

The 49ers could have easily blown out the Vikes if it weren't for the kickoff returned for a TD and a miracle last second hail mary.
The 49ers had one crazy bounce go their way that resulted in a TD. The Vikes had two. Next time you watch the game take off your purple sunglasses, you might see two teams playing.

they threw to him like 5 times, 0 catches. Buffalo looked horrible on offense. Their only score was on a fake FG, I think they punted on 8 out of 9 possessions until they had to start going for it on 4th down out of desparation.
