Anybody else catch Modern Family last night? I thought it was one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time. I'm not sure if it can keep up the level of humor, but it was certainly a great start.

It was pretty decent. Though I did think the Cool Dad was bit over the top, but it was a pilot and they'll probably tone it down a bit.

I'm glad I have a DVR though, as it comes on at the same time as Glee!

Has potential. Yea that whole Cool Dad gig was a bit much, but like you said, I'm sure it will be tweaked. Got a good laugh watching the father line up his son in the backyard in an attempt to shoot him and teach him a lesson. That whole "I know he may be a bit dramatic", quickly followed by the whole Lion King bit, pretty good.

I was wondering, the 15 year old girl thought she should be able to have the door closed when a senior boy was visiting her? One wonders if Cool Dad was doing all that sort of parenting.

I thought it was pretty funny, certainly funny enough that I will watch it again.

There were a couple of great lines; my favorite being when the gay couple told there family that they had named their new Vietnamese daughter Lily, and the cool dad asks, “won’t that be hard for her to say?”

I saw it on Jet Blue, they had a pre-screening, I was in stitches.

Loved it. I love when I actually see jokes I've never seen before and the bit with the Lion King music was simply hysterical.

It was great and I'm hoping they've got the juice to keep it funny all season.

Just from reading this thread, it sounds like a live action (I assume that's the case) knockoff of Family Guy.

I kind of got that vibe early on but what pushed me over the edge toward it had to be the "Let me see the little potsticker!" line which I definitely heard in Peter Griffin's voice when I read it.

Well there are a few politically incorrect lines, but nothing like the Family Guy. The mockumentary style (among 3 families) is also very different than a traditional sitcom (which FG is mocking).

Plus, you know, this show was funny, unlike Family Guy.

I laugh harder at Family Guy than I laughed at Modern Family, but I guess Modern Family was all right. I felt like I saw most of the jokes coming from a mile away, but at least the jokes still made me laugh. So it's got that going for it.

Of course, my opinion doesn't mean much. After all, I eat paste.

Al Bundy's wife is smoking hot.

And, I agree, Al Bundy's wife is smoking hot.

I loved last week then Phil is talking about his son having a girly bike and how he'll be teased by a bully, then Jay shows up in the car and calls him sally. Good stuff.

The first episode was off the charts, but it's come down the the next two. Still funny and I'm watching, but the pilot was just very funny as opposed to the other episodes being just "funny."

Agreed. We've been watching "The Middle" which is on right before it and we commented that it's actually become funnier each week where as Modern Family has kinda been blah.

I missed the pilot, which apparently was the best episode, but I've still enjoyed it enough. The "gay" family seemed to be entirely cliched jokes, especially the urban/rural gag, but the other two held my attention.

This may be my favorite show on TV right now. It's either this or 30 Rock, so for me that's saying something. Modern Family continues to get better; I can't image what next season will be like*.

*Note: this show will be cancelled. I know this because I enjoy it,

Nah. This show is not only great, but the ratings are quite good. I am pretty sure it's already been picked up for a second season.

I really enjoy it. I haven't seen this week's episode yet, but the Valentine's Day episode was fantastic, especially Phil's role-playing.

Modern Family is fantastic. It has usurped Big Bang Theory as my most looked-forward to show. The episode with Al Bundy and his son's husband playing racquetball was killer from start to finish. I'm a couple behind though on the PVR.

Also, one of the things I love about "Modern Family" is that the women can be just as dumb as the men. While Phil can be a moron, Claire as done some really idiotic things. In most shows it'd just be the idiot guy and the smart wife who shakes her head every time.

I was looking at something else & saw a note about this, figured I'd drop it in here.

From January 12th
At this morning’s TCA session, ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson said he was renewing ABC’s freshman comedies Modern Family, The Middle and Cougar Town so all three will get a second season.

It was very good, but I doubt they can top the adoption episode. The scene where Mitchell tells Cam not to go over board when his family comes over, and Cam enters to the Lion King music while holding Lilly over his head still cracks me up.

This series has not had a bad episode yet.
