She's done.

Twenty days into the war and:

US Troops in central Baghdad

British troops in Basrah

Reports of Iraqi uprisings against Saddam's troops in Baghdad and Basrah

Reports of chemical weapons

Reports of chemical agents

Reports of terrorist training camps

Relatively few coalition casualties

France, Russia, and Germany claiming UN needs to play a major role in post-war Iraq

Very few reports of anti-war protests (even in Muslim countries).

Yup, Saddam's regime is basically finished. Hopefully we can finish this off with few additional casualties and find even more evidence of chemical and biological weapons (which I don't think will be an issue).

All in all I'd say this war has been a tremendous success.

Despite the U.S. policy of a "rolling victory", I don't think this war will be finished until Saddam Hussein's either captured or killed.

What are you talking about? The Iraqi defense minister said that the "mercanaries" are no where near Baghdad, and at the point of surrender. I'm learning to speak Arabic, just in case we become a vassal of Iraq.

We've also captured their airport, and have landed at least one jet there.

BTW, did anyone else see that the name of their airport is "Saddam International" spelled in english on the building structure? That seemed kind of ironic to me considering the english speaking countries are Saddam's enemies.

English is the International Language of Aviation.

a nitpicky point: a C-130 is a prop driven tactical cargo plane. IMHO The news outlets made too big a deal about the plane landing there.

Cam: I think you are right. If this is all about Saddam and his WMD we have to find Saddam to really call this a victory. Politically it would not be good for the US to have Bin Laden and Saddam running around, even though I don't think Saddam is much of a threat without a country.

dola

Tarkus: Remember that war is just an extremem political instrument. While we have undoubtedly routed the Iraqi military I don't think we can really look at whether our political objectives have been achieved for a few years. The life of the average Iraqi will most likely be much better very soon, but the improvement in safety and security of the average American is harder to measure.

Iraq could turn into a democracy that sets a new example for the mid-east or it could split apart into regional and ethnic strife ala Yugoslavia. We won't know what we have achieved until at least the first election of an Iraqi government, and more like not until we see a second election.

Cam, I don't know about Saddam. I think he's either dead or he's vacationing in Syria. So ...

If we dont' get Saddam, whoever is Bush's opponent for the next election could realyl sue this against him.

"He couldn't get Osama and he couldn't get Saddam. He's leaving unfinished business behind!"

Something like that. Not that I wouldn't mind Bush not being re-elected. :)
