DE to OLB

Anyone had any success with this? I know in football terms it works (on occassion), but in FOF terms I haven't heard it yet. I drafted this gentleman (http://www.thefofl.com/draft/conscriptor/show_player.php?player_id=15) in the FOFL (openings available!). He's very undersized for a DE, but has equal experience (inexperience really) at his natural position and both OLB spots. I don't see why his existing bars would change too drastically, but his coverage ability is a noggin scratcher.

Thoughts? Experiences? Haikus?

I converted an undersized DE to OLB in a SP league awhile back. The position change netted a decent future estimate increase. He turned out to be a creeper too

I did this in WOOF with an undersized DE and he played pretty well. If the weight is right it can be a very good transition.

Looks a lot more like a solid MLB rather than OLB. Strong as an ox, but likely wont have the coverage or PR technique after the switch to make a good OLB, IMO.

That guy looks like he can't rush the passer. With that run defense ability, I think you should want to keep him as a DL player. At OLB, you want either a great pass rusher (which this guy isn't), or an overall skilled player (which this guy isn't going to be).

i dunno if he can bulk up, but I'd probably just do that. And see if he can maybe get fat enough to be a RDT

I wouldn't use him as OLB.

In a 4-3, yeah, probably not worth changing him. I think hes a solid WILB in a 3-4, probably makes your goalline D pretty stiff. A player like that is so hard to place in a good spot, but will probably never see the field as a DE if his skills don't meet the requirement for the position per the GM. I think WILB in a 3-4, or goalline and base MLB in a 4-3 would be his best bet for being useful.

Who knows, maybe he has some coverage skill.. I don't subscribe to a lot of the theories people have about how to play defense or offense in this game.. I think thats why I see a lot of things differently. The above was basically how I would play the guy if I switched him.

I actually looked at him again. His best fit, in this game* is probably as a 3/4 RDE.


*Save your rants about how a 265lb guy could play 3/4 de in real life for another day.
