FoF - Worth buying?

I know a lot of people who are very enthusiastic FoF players post here. I was just wondering if it provides lasting fun.

I bought The Fourth Edition and, while I found it to be interesting, the interface was a turnoff. The play diagrams in particular are often difficult to read.

I know there have been changes to the game, but I've played the latest demo and the graphics appear to be exactly the same. For those of you who play it a lot--is the game worth the price?

It seems to be the only pro football management sim on the market. I'm thinking of buying it, so I can take over the Cleveland Browns. My first act would be to trade Brady Quinn.

I'm still playing it myself and still single player.

I found the interface to be pretty intuitive myself. One thing 2007 does that I like is that teams actually trade during the draft.

As to whether or not it's worth it, I can only say that for me, it has been, though I admit much of that is due to the available historical rosters and the occasional combo TCY/FOF games I run.

I never played FOF4 but I definitely think FOF07 is worth the money based on how often I play. I have only played SP - haven't ventured into MP yet. But I've played historical and fictional drafts for numerous seasons. It's not perfect, no text sim is, but it's the best football text sim I've seen. The financial side of it leaves me wondering what the AI was thinking sometimes, but the gameplay is great. I'm sure I've gotten the cost down to pennies per hour played by now.

I don't know about single player, but I'm pretty hooked on multi-player. A ton of leagues out there and lots of good people to meet. Fun playing with people from New Zealand to England. Can certainly be a frustrating game but many of us have continued to play for years. Check out the MP Matchmaking section and try your hand at some multiplayer.

If you didn't like the interface in previous editions chances are you won't like it in fof2k7. The game interface isn't really changed much at all between the versions. Many people love the interface and call it simple or easy to use. Many people don't like it and think it is lacking. Either way if that was the main reason you didn't enjoy the game previously I won't lie to you and say it is magically better.

Other than the interface, fof2k7 in my opinion is pretty well improved from earlier versions. There are still plenty of things that could be improved upon that have been nitpicked to death, but there really is no football simulation game out there better engine wise than fof2k7 right now.

online leagues is the only way to go imo. If you want full satisfaction, you guys should really join a mp league. What are you waiting for, leagues need your help to keep full.

The game engine is very good, it's got somewhat realistic season stats if that's what you are looking for. Personally, my favorite part is how well the game handles development and aging.

But in any event, with no new game on the horizon and no competition, FOF2k7 is a good buy. (Should be marked down by now, but I digress...)

Considering how long its been out I think its overpriced at $30. If you're into text based sims you'll probably still get your money's worth. As far as play diagrams etc, that's definitely not the strength of the game (I'd say the strength is more long-view kind of stuff, the closer you look into gameplanning and play by play the more warts you'll see)

I'm a long-time text-based sim fan. I don't like arcade sports games; I want my text-based games to remain text-based.

That said, FoF is rather bland. I don't mind that, but the play diagrams in particular are very primitive and I'm surprised at that. They are the same as they were in The Fourth Edition, and I often find them difficult to read. Knowing which hole the runner is supposed to hit, etc.

I am still tempted to buy the game, because it appears to be pretty deep, stats-wise. Stats and the enjoyment of developing careers are the main reasons I play text-based sports sims. I'm not very interested in online leagues. I'm in an OOTP baseball league and that takes all my online gaming energy. I prefer to play solo.

I play Bowl Bound College Football and find it to be very enjoyable and more than sophisticated enough. And it is also beautiful to look at. It's especially hard to go to FoF after calling plays in BBCF.

I was asking you fellows about FoF because I know it has a strong following. Of course, it does not have any competition. As I said, I have played the latest FoF demo. I just wanted to find out what about the game keeps you guys so engaged over the long term.

At $30, in this economy, I agree that FoF is overpriced.
