Official FOFC Hattrick Rankings for week 19.01

The new Hattrick season is finally underway, this must means that new FOFC Hattrick ratings are available. WELL, YEAH!!!

I'll get to them in a moment, for now, some explanations...
- TW stands for "This Week"
- LW stand for "Last Week"
- The first set of numbers (to the left of the team names) represents the relative ranking of every team. A blank in either column means that team wasn't ranked that week.
- The second set of numbers (to the right of the FOFC member name) represents the rankings points scored for the last two week.
- The rankings points for a given week are calculated using a weighted moving average of that week's NSI points and the score of the previous two weeks' NSI points.
- "NSI points" is the sum of all your position ratings from your game report, with midfield counting as triple its value
- Ratings are scored with the base value set at disastrous = 1, wretched = 2, and so on.

Finally, some comments about this week's rankings:
As expected, TargetPractice6's team stands at the top of our rankings. Hey what did you expect from a division II team? Now we all really got something to shoot for. Ready TP? ;)
Congratulations to some real newly ranked team, especially Qwikshot's team that enters the rankings in 8th place with 54 points, and a few others with some strong perormances around 43-44 points (GoldenEagle, fantastic flying froggies, RonnieDobb). Many of you have done your homework in this pas offseason...
Best moves upwards include dacman (up 13 spots) and Vince (up 28 spots). As you'll see on the website, I consider up to be good and down to be bad, as going up a ladder... Sorry if I missed your team's achievement, feel free to brag about it ;)

What needs to be noted is the quality of the first ever games played this week. We have a dude who learned from his mistake in Qwikshot. He assembled a top notch team there.

Then we have soome newbies who really learned by asking many questions. I'm talking about guys we see around a lot on the board, guys like GoldenEagle, RonnieDobbs, and -Panther. Darn, -Panther is at 42 in one week of league, where I'v been kinda stuck for the last 4 weeks :mad:

So, can anyone make sense of this for me? I'm ranked t-36, although I've been outscored 5-0 my two games. I'M HIGHER RANKED THAN THE TEAM THAT JUST BEAT ME 4-0. Sorry. What is going wrong, then? If you can, check out my dynasty with advice. I had a feeling my team had been playing well... any help is greatly appreciated.

Fair enough. I've only had my team about a week, maybe they started off better than I thought. I guess I just assumed I'd be sucking it up in score and ratings. However, this news has gotten me a little excited... is it possible I could win a few now as well? Would love to take a few steps to make that happen, as I would love to start filling my newly expanded stadium ASAP.

Incidentally, are the distributions of talent on new (series V I guess) teams completely random? Could a new team be so good as to run through the series without any tinkering? Or is it that they are given equal levels of talent in differing areas?

I think the assortment of players is completely random - I've seen teams with pretty decent starting talent, others with pretty poor players out of the gate...

Given that any div V series probably has at least one serious owner, I don't think any starting team could survive completely without tinkering.

I'm also up 28 places this week :D

But I think the big achievement award should go to Astott, whose Shadow Dragons posted a 11.3pt jump in TWA NSI. (And yet still lost 6 places in the rankings. This *is* a tough crowd).

The level of talent should be roughly the same for all starting teams. But as you can imagine it does vary from team to team. One team might start with no players worth more than $100k, while another team get three. Thought you won't see any team that gets, say, three excellents and a formidable.

to be honest I'm shocked. I didn't think I'd be as good as that.

Granted I doubt I played a team that actually gives a chit. But,
I got my team on the 28th not knowing anything about soccer.
Hell, I didn't know how to change formation from what is shown
on the screen until the 2nd :p Didn't know what 'towards the wing' etc...
did other than just make the guy go towards the winger. I thought a
central defender set to that would play next
to 'winger' not wingback lol

I'm still not sure how I'll fare in the division since I just sold my
best defender to fund a much wanted stadium upgrade :D
I still have 2 passables but that dropped my rating to barely 30
on mybestteam.

that's a given. the rules on hattrick should be read daily by newbies!

i think my team is average for a new team. But lucky for me im the second best team in my divison and the best team isnt that much better then me. Ill probally MOTS against him when we play and hope for an upset. And the best part is im a good 50k away from debt :) If my team stays healthy this might be a pretty productive season.

Thanks for the congrats...it is nice to start out with 3 solid defenders (selling one for 200k) which helped immensely. I just managed to grab from our own Boston Wycked Sceptre an older solid defender...

My biggest problem is my division is stocked with lethal teams, I may stay high up in the ranks, but I may be relegated by the end of the season, unless my defense holds and I gather more firepower...

Nahh..there are a couple of teams significantly worse than you in your division, Qwikshot. You won't likely be near relegation territory. Promotion would be quite difficult, though.

Wow, my club dropped a whopping 28 spots. It doesn't really surprise me though, since I cut payroll down to a minimum, keeping only several high-priced, young players to build around. I doubt I'll really be competitive till late this season, early next season. In the meantime, I'm trying to cut debt and keep making progress.

I always thought that the game ratings were an evaluation of your team's performance and were independant from the opposition. I mean, if you are playing "excellent" on defense, YOU are playing excellent, it's not that the other team is playing "poor" on attack. At least that's the way I understood it...

Anybody with more experience could corroborate?

Hey Ronnie, I decided to take a look at your game against Oklahoma City Rednecks. Here are the ratings for your two teams...

Oklahoma City Rednecks
Midfield: poor
Right Side Defence: solid
Central Defence: solid
Left Side Defence: passable
Right Side Attack: inadequate
Central Attack: inadequate
Left Side Attack: weak
NSI = 43

Boston Wyckyd Sceptre
Midfield: wretched
Right Side Defence: passable
Central Defence: solid
Left Side Defence: solid
Right Side Attack: passable
Central Attack: inadequate
Left Side Attack: passable
NSI = 43

So even though your opponent's team is currently listed lower than yours, they had the exact same rating this week. The thing is the rankings are based on a three weeks moving average and they score 41 last week and 42 two weeks ago, which gives them 42.2, compared to your only score of 43...

Maybe your team has some stamina problems, because looking at your game, I see it was only 1-0 at the half and their possession rate increased from 60% in the first to 67% in the second. Could be a lot of things, but it looks like in this one their slightly higher midfield rating helped them...

I would love to be competitive now instead of later, and didn't realize until you put up that rankings that that may have been feasible.

About your team, don't feel bad about it. Heck, you got a better team than mine after only one league game and I've already played 6 weeks worth of transfer market crazy spending :D

Damn...I posted my best rating ever (52...tied with another match last season) and I still lost 3-0. My opponent only posted a 47 (according to HatStats) and he still beat me. Must have been that all nighter the team pulled at the strip club before the game. Dammit....I told them not to come with me. :)

Funny you say that. I checked your division on HATStats USA (http://usa.hatstats.info/) a few minutes ago. Even though some things look kinda weird on the site (your team is still listed as a computer team), it looks like they retrieved all the ratings and I would think their series rankings for div V would be fairly accurate. Well anyway, your series is listed as the 8th toughest of all div V series in the USA...

Mine is listed as only the 180th or so toughest in Canada, division V. :D

Actually I have, I have 90k from selling my British 18 keeper, and that has helped, I'm eyeing a cheap solid defender tho, it's hard to look away at one of those if he's under 50k...besides, then I can have versatility at 4-3-3 or the ever growing popular 4-5-1.

I've curbed, I've got a poor keeper as a backup now for Saphou...and I'm waiting on my next youth pull (again going for a keeper)...maybe I'll get an inadequate and drop the new guy, maybe I'll hit paydirt...at least I'm not near Afoci..sheesh, 469k, I'd already have my application ready...

And I'm currently 366K C$ in the red (that's 183K U$), but I got a 12000 seats stadium, which I filled with 10515 happy fans in my first home game after the upgrade...

Very cool, I'm glad I haven't expanded...that's where the debt would really come in, especially if I get hammered...the other league with the Qwakers I had no problem holding my own...this one, I may accept the relegation and hammer on some VI's, hopefully get pushed up to a different V division (THIS IS WORST CASE SCENARIO-I don't intend to do it)

That defender is still out there cheap...7 minutes left, gotta go bid.

Reason I decided to upgrade right now is because I felt like my new home in div V (just got relegated) was a pretty easy division, with 7 bot teams. So I felt like I could go and repay most of it in a matter of a few home games and then maybe get another upgrade before the end of the season, that would then assure me of a steady income in the future...

I remember when I use to be able to purchase players, I would search the transfer markets all over the world for deals and then impulsively overbid on someone I didn't need driving me further in debt. Then, $200k in debt, no more transfer list players...so sad.

Well here's my plan...I don't plan on contending this year...unless by some act of God I can get a couple of solid strikers (Grewar and Zabawa)...or some wonderful youth pull...if things go really bad...I'm going to sell off another solid defender (I'll start with old man Ollie first)...build a stadium, grab a few inadequate/pass defenders, and train train train, even if it knocks me into VI...I don't think that it will...but if it does, I should have a good team...plus, I feel, that I can tangle with all my FOFC compadres, and still be able to generate high revenue...but for now, I have my best team ready for Ring of Fire (I'm using a different tactic)...good luck to me.

Being mean has nothing to do with being a cheater. :) My players must have a chip on their shoulders this year because they were never this mean before. Maybe its because I changed out my clowns.
