View Full Version : FG range and base defense

1) I've had this happen twice this season now: we punt when inside my kicker's range (52 yards). Once we pass on a 50 yarder, and today on a 52 yarder. Both times in the 4th quarter with a 1 and 2-score lead, but not inside 2 minutes or with clock draining offense (which would drive up the range anyway).

What's going on?

2) Same team. A couple of times now I've seen my team line up in a base 3-4 with aggressive pass defense when my settings are 100% nickel/dime in those situations.

Neither of those things had ever happened before. Is it just the usual coach mental handicap manifesting in ever new and original ways?

MP or SP? Are you sure it's not set to overwrite gameplans?

It's happened again, same team, same kicker, with a 21 point lead in the 3rd quarter. 3 times and we're only midway through the season! It can't be just coincidence.

You're not alone out there. With the 'normal' setting at 47:
weather: rain, 6 mph; score 0-0 tied
4-6-ALB30 (1Q: 01:25) J.R. Copeland punted 30 yards. Touchback.

And then with end of half * at 56:
weather: fair, calm; score 14-7 down
4-7-BOR32 (2Q: 02:00) J.R. Copeland punted 32 yards. Touchback.

* yes, you might point out that I might have the hurry up offense set wrong, however Solecismic already confirmed that hurry up setting and end of half FG setting are in no way linked.

Strange. I wonder why it seems to happen with specific kickers.
