View Full Version : contract terms: last season voidable, what's it?

In the contract negotiation screen, there is an option called "last season voidable" and there are conditions attached to it, depending on player positions (eg. 100 tackles, 10 interceptions, etc.)
I have never seen any player requesting it in the contract talk, yet given the conditions attached (high tackle numbers) I thought it must be something that benefits the player.
What does it do, and under what circumstances should a GM use it, and why?

It's not something I normally use or mess around with. You still carry the dead bonus money for the guy, it's basically like you cut him without the option to do it. I'd say it might gain you a competitive advantage when bidding on a free agent.

The general theory is that since football contracts are not guaranteed, the objective for a good player is to get paid fat bonus money, and then to become a free agent again as soon as possible to line up another free market contract, with a new bonus.
Implementation in FOF is not perfect, but that's the underlying logic of the opt out as a benefit to the player.

...similar logic applies to rookie contracts, as well. Newly drafted players *prefer* the shorter duration contract, as baffling as that seems to some FOF players, it's for the same reason -- they want to get to open free agency as quickly as possible.

OK, if I understand correctly, selecting that option during negotiation means the player (CPU controlled) can quit the team during the last yr of the contract if he passes the preset benchmark?

If he hits the benchmark, the contract simply dissolves prior to its last season, there's no mystery about it.
