So, I've been scanning around the markets trying to get a feel for them, and one thing I would like to have is a reference list of market sizes. So, I figured I'd write one up. Don't know if this will help anyone, but at least I'll be using it.

From what I've found, players are more abundant/more expensive the larger the market. Makes perfect sense, of course. I have had difficulty realistically finding players in countries of 680 or less teams. I basically ignore them unless I have a lot of time.

Hope this might be useful. Does anyone else want to chime in with their thoughts on how to work the transfer market? Specifically I have yet to get a firm hold on what the assessed value means with regards to actual value and closeness to "popping."

Apples and oranges...actual value is what people will pay - I never look at assessed value in regards to transfer market "value." In regards to "popping" however, assessed value can give clues, but only keepers are anything close to clear cut.

I find that there are some good deals in Romania and Oceania. Of course you can always get a good deal from our friends north of the border Canada.

So, if your looking for quality players at a cheap price you can usually find some in those countries. If your looking for superstar players then the U.S. and Sweden are your best bet.

Thanks for the list Ronnie.

Additionally, I have found a Hattrick Supporter page which breaks down the various markets. The number shown is the sold price to assessed price ratio. The divisions made by me are completely arbitrary. :)

I only used countries where at least 500 transfers had occured last month. And this only applies to last month, but still may be telling. Do you think this is an accurate view of things?

Terrible
Sverige - 1.73
Singapore 1.72
Mexico 1.67

Poor
England - 1.56
Canada 1.52
Oceania 1.44
USA - 1.42
Norge 1.36
Brazil 1.34
Romania - 1.33

Average
Italia 1.29
Danmark - 1.24
Eesti 1.2
France 1.19
Hrvatska 1.18
Suomi 1.18
Belgie 1.17
Magyarország 1.16
Portugal 1.15

Good
Österreich 1.11
Latvija 1.11
Nederland 1.1
Deutschland - 1.1
Polska 1.09
Prathet Thai 1.05
Espana - 1.03
Ceska Republica 1.02

Hey Ronnie, very interesting list!

However, you also have to pay attention to the number of active users in a given country. Canada, for example, has 2728 teams, which is the standard setup for a 5 levels deep country. What really counts is that there are only 1184 active users in Canada.

Some countries are also listed with 2728 teams, but only have les than 1000 active ones. France (919, 34 on waiting list), Israel (828, only 8 on waiting list), and Prathet Thai (only 469, with 28 on waiting list) are prime examples of markets that may seem good to shop in, but that may lack in number of players...

It's a good list and your ratio list is probably the one I'll use more. I always thought Schweiz was where I was able to get my best bargains and your list tends to confirm that...

I like the ratio list....it does appear fairly accurate to me....I have always seen players in mexico go for more than I thought they should be selling for- this just reinforces my beliefs that that is a tough place to shop....I am going to have to start looking in Argentina and Schwiez more for some good deals.

Doug, I had read in a post around here that Argentina was a good place to shop, but every time I tried a search for a specific kind of player (with a certain price in mind) I often get a blank list...

Schweiz however always has a ton of players, at all kinds of prices... ;)

Maybe you'll have better luck than I did in Argentina.

We won't know for a while....I have put myself on transfer market probation....I sold a player and was out of debt, it felt great....a week later Im back to about $50k in the hole....No more transfers for me until I have to buy someone because of injury.

Just put another winger on the market myself...with the cup and with this possible sale...I would be down to 100k...but I won't be winning anymore cups matches...so I too am off the market...I have CM4 to distract me, so it won't be all bad...now I'm saving for a nice stadium...

My foreign players includes (or included as some where sold) :

Argentina : passable/passable forward
Deutschland : clown winger
Danmark : passable winger
Latvia : passable goalie (sold now)
Oceania : passable midfield
Sverige : inad goalie, 2 central defenders/inner midfields

Right now, I'm staying out of the Market until I go back to positive cash flow (I'm -$30K now). With one home Cup game and one Home league game, I should net around $60K (minimum) this week !
