I voted for "It's formidable," but only because I pronounced it to myself in French and started giggling like a school girl.

no question, gotta be "It's formidable. Why even have a poll? This one's over. :)

Scientific name Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni, meaning "messy New York City hottie thing named Hamilton"
Methinks that someone needs to rush up on his latin.
If I remember correctly "meso" means middle. Therefore, Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni becomes "I'm in the middle of New York City with a hottie thing named Hamilton".
Duh! Get it right! :D

I picked- That at 330-pounds and 16’ long, it’s almost three times as tall as Gilbert Brown but weighs less.

The poll did not mention that the Colossal Squid can go through people like Oprah on a Bon Bon binge.

Wow, I didn't think that I was going the popular rout with "formidable"

How are the Gilbert Brown comparisons beating "it is formidable."
Are you folks suggesting that it is not formidable?

damn you ksyrup. I did the same thing. It is funny. Then I started thinking of the French running away from Colossal Squids. I'm bored.....
I voted for the O'Shea Squid O'meter. I bet he looks like the boat captain from Jaws.

I'm intrigued that, as of this writing, less than 2% of the FOFC membership has voted in this vital and oh-so-relevant poll.

How could we possibly choose only one specific element? The entire saga, from discovery, to shock and awe, to respectful admiration, has captured our imagination in ways that were heretofore unimagined.
At first drawn in by the glint of intellect in her dinner-plate sized eyes, we then succumbed to the beauty that are her 16' tentacles. Awed by her sheer size, we were soon all shocked to discover the biological marvel that are her 360 degree rotating hooks. The imaginations of millions were gripped by the thoughts of epic battles between our formidable lover and her daunting prey, the mighty Sperm Whale. Sorrow crept into our hearts at the realization that few of us will ever come to know the sweet embrace of Colossal Squidy, 20 leagues beneath the surface, and that the lucky few who do will never be able to recount their awesome tales to the rest of us. But we must respect Squidy and her desire for solitude, for in order for us to go on we must in our hearts know that she is happy.
God Bless you my beautiful beast, slither proudly into the depths.

I actually voted the day the poll came out (for dinner plate sized eyes), it just seemed like a fun reply :p

Can I add a category:
Which element of the Colossal Squid saga do you find most intriguing?
The fact that the patrons of an internet messageboard devoted to a football mamangement sim have an all-consuming obsession for the colossal squid.
Viva la colossal squid.
I wonder if Ms. Colossal squid is also "formidable"...

Something I'm surprised no one else has said yet, the obligatory squid sex joke:
My girlfriend said she saw a colossal squid in the bedroom last night. She said it was quite "formidable" and spit out some kind of inky substance when provoked.
and to inject some sad humor some of you may know too well:
When asked about the size of the colossal squid, she said it was larger than the giant squid she had previously come in contact with.:(, but not the first colossal squid she had seen.

This vote's too close to call (or to let languish on page two).
