Based off of this thread (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7483). The basic gist of Project FOFC is for this board to program some sort of open source game. I would really like to get moving on this idea as I think it's a great one and don't want it to lose momentum before it can even get started. This thread will be acompanied by another thread with a poll about what kind of game we want(see first reply for link).

As I said in the original thread I think we need to gather some consenus about a project leader so that we can have some vision and well leadership. As this is a group project we need someone who can say "this is the way it will be" to keep things moving but also someone who will listen to the whole community. The idea isn't to pick someone to program this by themselves, merely to facilitate the project.

I have listed below all the people who said they'd be willing to help and know some sort of programming language. I listed just those who have programming experince as they would be, I think, best positioned to make decisions about code and be a resource. Of course we could always decide that this need not be the requirement for a qualified person.

I would hope that this be more of a discussion than a vote and hopefully we can come to some sort of consensus as we did when we made Data our man for the. Obviously some people who will have their name listed below won't want to do it and some who aren't listed might want to be project leader, I'm just trying to get the ball rolling.

GoldenEagle (VB)
the_meanstrosity (Java)
Fido (C++)
Aylmar (Java, C++)

Again those four names are meant as a starting point not a finishing point.

I was a computer science major for 3 years, so i know some C++ and VB. I don't have either language on my computer anymore, but I wouldn't mind trying to help what I can.

I am very 'fluent' in VB. I would be honored to be chosen project leader, but I think I need some more detial before I can fully commit. Being a college student, I do have alot more free time on my hand than most but time is an issue. So lets play it by ear and see how things go.

if he's willing to do it, the project leader should be Fido. no question.

I agree, he seems to know a lot about this.

Plus we can all say "Here, Fido!" when we need his input. :D

I've done some VB and Java, and web scripting on platforms such as ASP and JSP, handy if you want to do something like Hattrick, which is based on ASP with database servers and most likely COM objects.

JSP could be used similarily, but with Java servlets instead.

Thanks DD, but...um...don't you remember my past esperiences with management roles? You just want me made manager so you can snatch it away from me? :D

Seriously though - my involvement in this project is going to be governed by what the result of the what to do poll is.

If you plan to do a web based game someone who knows java and asp should be the leader.

if you plan to do an exe file, someone who knows C++ should the leader.

VB shouldn't be considered cause it's way too slow (just take a look at EHM and you'll see what I mean)

I don't care who's in charge as long as they are open to suggestions. :D

I'm probably not experienced enough to manage myself let alone a project, lol. But I'd be willing to help out wherever and I've got plenty of free time available. So just tell me what to do, lol.
