Alas it's probably a wait 'til Christmas (or close to it) thing here for the same reason.
Killing me already not to have picked up MW2 for my son, this will just make it even worse.

I already have it. A friend of mine pre-ordered it in the four pack off Steam. I don't recall the exact price for each game, but it ended up being a pretty good deal.
Sadly, I don't see much of an opportunity to play it until after Thanksgiving thanks to various random factors.

someone posted in another thread here that the game will be under $40 on black friday at best buy, so im gonna try my luck there
i also remember amazon matching a lot of black friday deals last year, or maybe 2 years ago, so hopefully that happens and i dont have to go out before 7 am or something crazy

Picking mine up after work tomorrow. I really have to stop this...Borderlands, Forza Motorsport 3, Modern Warfare 2, and now Left for Dead 2 all within a few weeks of each other...

Totally awesome. It's a lot harder now too, which I love. The best thing about it are the melee weapons, just awesome to use.

I just picked it up for 360 and if anybody is wanting somebody to play with I would love to play. I never owned the first one, only rented it once so im probably not very good but I am an experienced gamer (FPS especially).
Hit me up.

Managed about an hour of solo play last night, just to get a feel for it. Definitely more difficult than the original. The new Jockey and Charger special-infected are pretty cool, Spitters are going to get f*cking annoying though.
I also like the way weapons are distributed now. You don't just get weapons made available to you at the beginning of the scene...you find them gradually as you move through the scene. More variability too...so far I've seen about a half-dozen different types in the SMG/Assault Rifle category. some of the melee weapons are "meh" but the chainsaw and katana are cool as hell. Just be prepared for a lot of blood-splatter all over your screen.
Edit: forgot to mention there are magnum pistols too...unfortunately you can't go all John Woo with those. :(

Santa brought this for Christmas. Only had a test drive where I played through the first two subchapters. Definitely more difficult than the original. Not a fan of the acid pools, but otherwise liked it. Seems like they took what was good in the original and took it the next notch up.

It's definitely a step up on the difficulty scale compared to the first one. And yes, the acid pools suck.
What platform you get it on?

Will do. I usually have to do multiplayer games by appointment though. Tonight isn't good (MNF), but sometime later this week could work. I must warn you, my AI teammates yell at me a lot for accidentally shooting them. ;)

Kodos / Data / et al ... would there be particular objection to my son joining (time & scheduling permitting of course)?
I ask since some folks might be uncomfortable about somebody's kid playing but I figure:
1) he definitely would hold his own exponentially better than I could, I think he'd be in the "decent" or "okay" range on the L4D's, a good bit better at some of the combat FPS's, maybe a little too cheesy for some of the sports games
2) I don't think anyone is going to say anything he hasn't heard from me so nobody has to get paranoid about self-censoring or anything
3) It would relieve me of some responsibility of co-op play with him & actually let him play with people who know WTF they're doing more often than I do
4) he's in a bind with most games where he's a lot better than most of the people he knows his own age, his main adult gaming buddy is in Afghanistan, and that leaves me to try to fill the gaps and that's usually him trying to coach me through not knowing what I'm doing (me trying to play ODST would probably amuse good players quite a bit)
His tag is steelstrong98, in the event there's no objections. If I understand it right (and that's iffy), he would need to friend one or more of you in order to find the eventual game?
Kodos
12-28-2009, 01:41 PM
It's fine with me if he'd like to play. I don't know if he has to friend us, but it makes things easier for coordination purposes I'm sure. Sounds like he is probably better than us, but then I'm going on 40, so most teenagers should be better than me. Sounds like he is probably used to playing with B-level players though. ;)

I certainly have no objections to your son joining us. None whatsoever. And like the alien said, he's probably better than us anyways. :D
I'm not sure friending is required or not, but it definitely makes things alot easier when setting things up.

so most teenagers should be better than me.
Don't rush things, he'll be 12 in April ;)
I've got another 16 months before I officially have a teenager.
It's hard for me to really figure out how good he is or isn't, I definitely can't judge him against me 'cause that's a really low bar on most games. Best I can tell though he holds his own or better in online play against the general population in the COD series, as well as the Halo games, he seems about average on L4D.
I'll have him send you a friend request (with strict instructions not to become a PITA down the road) and I appreciate you (and DK who posted while I was typing) being open to the idea.

No problem. It'll be interesting -- I've only really played football online. Should be interesting when I have to actually interact and pass along information that's useful to the other guys, rather than the usual trash talking that you get in football.
Edit: I guess I did play a little Call of Duty online a couple of years back, but that required less teamwork than L4D does.
DataKing
12-28-2009, 01:57 PM
Teamwork and communication are actually two of the things I like most about L4D. Not that I'm one to talk people's ears off during a game, but communication and teamwork are definite plusses in L4D2, especially since it's more difficult than the first one. There are some spots in the game where it's a downright requirement. The game is really set up that way...if you run off on your own or get left behind, odds are you will end up dead.

Scoobz: The only issue I see is the 4 player limit. But if someone doesn't show up within reasonable time at 10, you could take their place.
Edit: Do some of the other variations of the game allow for more than 4 players? I've only ever played the story mode.

I know a couple of people we can try if we're in need of a 4th.
As for campaigns, I'm game for just about any of them. There's actually some benefit in playing them in order if you haven't seen them yet, however, since they do follow a (loose) chronological order.
Edit: For some reason, over half of the pickup games I get dropped into are in the Carnival. I'm not sure why people love that one so much, but they do.

Butter, I'm sure my son would be thrilled to pitch in on one if you found yourself with time & inclination sort of unexpectedly (and I could make a 3rd if needed). He's usually on most of the weekends & plays 'til midnight or later on the weekends, usually from around 8p-10p Eastern on normal weeknights. Heck, in some ways I wonder whether complete inexperience noobness vs having played the first one is much of a disadvantage beyond just getting used to the visual/the atmosphere/the universe/etc.
I wasn't great at the first one by any means but I was noticeably better at it than I am at 2, the difficulty difference is pretty significant at least for me.
