One Iraqi who has EARNED his freedom

A 32 year old Iraqi lawyer is the reason PFC Jessica Lynch is still alive.

He was visiting his wife at the hospital when he noticed a security detatchment guarding a room, asking around, he learned that an American POW was being held there. He actually witnessed one of Hussein's torturers physically abuse PFC Lynch.

Many of us would not have the fortitude, or the courage to do what he did. He walked six miles, risked being shot by Cautious US Forces to tell them what he had saw. Then,, at the request of the US forces, he went back to get more information. TWICE more. He got the information that led to the commando raid which freed PFC Lynch.

He deserves all the plaudits, all the recognition we can give him. In the MSNBC article, the lawyer mentions that one day he might want to come to America.. I hope that if that ever happens, not only do we graciously allow him to come here.. we give him citizenship as quickly as possible.

Shit, even the immigrants we have serving over there in our own armed forces don't get granted automatic citizenship until they're already dead. I say we need to fix THIS injustice first...

Critical point, there. Americans don't have a monopoly on courage and/or morality. It isn't necessarily the aspiration of all "good" people to become Americans...anymore than it is the aspiration of all evil people to live in Kentucky.

Non-citizen service members get citizenship after completing their first tour of duty I believe. Those who come back from Iraq alive, I believe will get citizenship.

Those who are killed are getting expedited citizenship.

5 years military service = citizenship if I'm not mistaken, could be wrong though.

on a somewhat related tanget, I was reading about a pilot who was killed in Desert Storm.

there was one line at the end that casually mentioned that he had been promoted twice since his death. not familiar with the military, but this threw me for a loop. is that standard practice?

Happens. All depends on the person and cause of death. I think you may be talking about the guy who many believe to still be alive and being held by Iraq.

When I was in the Army there were two guys that were from Canada and several from Pacific Islands that were in my basic unit. The Army will take anyone who can spell their name and volunteer.
