Round 2 of the Hattrick Cup!!
Live Satelite Coverage from the HatPub
Sponsored by WCLG and HOOTERS!!!

“Welcome to Morgantown!!!!!” (Yelling, catcalling, various profanity and excitement in the background) “This is Loretta “Sloppy” Jones with you LIVE from the HatPub in Morgantown, West BY GOD Virginia, covering the Goldurnears 2nd round cup match against division six side Puerto Rico Gurus. We are just tickled sh(bleep)tless to be here with Goldurnears owner “bg” Rob Maier, who decided to watch the game here with us. It seems that he has some phobia of Puerto Rico, something to do with an ...ah... incident there in his youth. Hello bg, what are you drinking?

“HA, up yours Sloppy Jo”

“After the game tiger, grrrrrrrr”

(in stage voice) “Shhhh, we don’t want Bebec getting wind of this”

“Why not, maybe she’d like to join us?”

“Um.....hey, let’s check out my starting line up for today’s game”

GK - #2 Walter “head stuck in the” Sands (weak form, inadequate keeping) We originally thought that stucky would be our long term starter, but he has since been beaten out by “Conchito”. We are still waiting for him to pop to passable so that we can turn him into 6000 stadium seats. Maybe we will get lucky and it will happen this week during our general training.

CD(offensive) - #4 Alojzije “easy for you to say” Braun (inadequate form, passable defense, solid stamina, inadequate playmaking, Technical specialist) One of the two players who is participating in both games this week. With so many second team or low formers on the side, we thought it was important to inject our best defender in the middle. Easy is also a scoring threat, as he pumped one in during his first league match against the hated Arsenel Gunners. The soon to be f(bleep)cking defunct Gunners.

LWD(defensive) - #8 William “lame duck” Tompkins (passable form, inadequate defense, inadequate winger) We try to make light of duckster’s nickname, but the truth is sometimes hard to take. This is the only player on our depth chart that isn’t passable or better in his primary skill. Inadequate at both defense and winger is just enough for me to play him. We don’t have any funds available for an upgrade, so ducky will remain with us, sweating our youth pulls from week to week. No way at all he will survive the end of the season, but with inadequate scoring and solid set pieces, we hope he will find a home somewhere.

RWD(defensive) - #10 Stanislaw “Wolfgang” Kociuba (wretched form, inadequate defense, excellent stamina) At least Tompkins is actually on the depth chart where he is playing. Wolfgang is one of the top three midfielders on our team, but his form has been lousy, so he hasn’t made the cut at midfield this week. Perhaps we are taking something of a liberty by injecting him into the defense. In fact, what is he even doing on the wing, he needs to be in the middle (shouts for an assistant, who begins booting up his laptop). Get on that G(bleep)d Damn F(BLEEP)UCKING thing and change to asymmetric in the back, what the hell are you people doing!! (sounds of bg slugging back a 20oz Amber Bock) Nurse! More medicine over here, pronto! Put Tompkins over on the other wing, and slot Kociuba as the left central defender, normal. Lord, what I have to deal with.

RIM - #17 Diogo “Je” Sousa Rodrigues (poor form, passable playmaking, passable stamina, Quick specialist) This will be Je sousa’s first time in the bag.

LIM - #16 Bernard “detective” Martinez (inadequate form, passable playmaking, passable stamina, Technical specialist) Ditto for Martinez, we haven’t even gotten him a decent nickname yet.

IM(offensive) - #14 Jose “can you see the holes in the” Levy (weak form, passable playmaking, solid stamina) We set Jose offensive because of his stamina, and because we want to try and add a little punch towards the assualt on goal. If you haven’t noticed yet, we are really playing with a patchwork lineup.

LW(offensive) - #11 Elijah “the prophet” Dupree (inadequate form, solid winger, inadequate stamina, Technical specialist) The other man on the squad playing both games this week. All the prophet does is drop ball after ball after ball in the box at the feet of our strikers. Absolutely can not afford to do without him under the circumstances.

RW(towards middle) - #13 Richard “forest” Whittaker (weak form, inadequate winger, solid stamina, inadequate passing, inadequate playmaking, inadequate defense) I guess I have more than one player not solid in his primary skill on the depth chart, but the fact that he is inadequate everywhere makes up for that. My first foray into the towards middle order, I want to really hammer the possession if I can.

LF – #24 Andy “Capp” Morales (weak form, passable scoring) Has made decent apparences previously, we hope for another today.

RF - #22 John “gimpy” Colvin (wretched form, passable scoring, passable passing, solid stamina) Gimpy is so named because he is an original member of the team, and has been injured for about eighty percent of its existence. John alternates between striker and central defense. He is playing forward today because Wolfgang can’t play up front.

“There you have it BJ, I mean SJ.”

“Ha ha, bj, I mean bg. So, with your less than stellar line up today, I presume you won’t be PICing again as you did in round 1?”

“You’d be wrong there Sloppy, seconds, I mean, that’s the second time today. With my nasty coach, I don’t dare miss an opportunity to improve team spirit. Besides, assuming we do win this game, we still have to play yet another road game against a division V side before I get the chance at a home game. We can’t afford to worry to much about the cup yet, if we get by this week, and honestly, I think we still are overwhelming favorites to continue, then we will worry about the cup. We play another new team without an owner in league next week, so we can obviously reverse our strategy then, and put our best foot forward then. Maybe our round 3 opponent won’t notice and take US a little too lightly.”

“Thanks for the interview, bg, enjoy the game. Don’t get too wasted, you’ll have quite a pair of handfulls in your hands this evening.” Now, we go live to our remote reporters at various other cup sites. Good luck to all the FOFC contingent, owners of HOOTERS, we hope to hear good things tonight!”

Not much action so far, but the Pittbulls are ahead!!!

After a fine move down the middle Calvin Phelan nearly gave the home side one up in the 14:th minute. The finishing shot went just wide, though. Jack Rudoy sailed high, high above the opponents as he headed the 1-0 in after a corner kick after 22 minutes of play.

that's one of the thing I like about this l'il text sim. If you've either played a little or watched even only a few highlights, you can imagine the corner kick coming to a crowd of players and then one guy jumping higher than the other and the GOAL!!!

:D

in the meantime:

A couple of quick and successful challenges, followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area after 28 minutes might have resulted in another goal for Pintendre. However, Alec Shattock made a spectacular save.

Third scoring chance for our team. Looks like we are dominating the possession battle... GO PITTBULLS!!!!

Last update from me, as I gotta run.

In the 35:th minute Pintendre put themselves up 2 - 0. The visitors defenders lost the ball to Per Rossten coming up from the left, who proceeded to cooly round the goaltender and knock the ball home.

Should be back home in les than two hours. Ample time to catch your USA cup games guys!!! Good luck everyone and GOOOOOOOO PITTBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLSS! :D

I am psyched. Being the moron college student that I am, I actually went to class and completely forgot about my lineup, so I'm pretty sure I will be forced to forfeit tonight's game! That is, unless the game put a lineup together for me, although I doubt that's possible. Anybody know? Will I forfeit?

Alright 10 minutes, up by one.

Phil Edwards was the first to reach the corner kick, but his header was saved by the keeper. However, Complex´s Michael Hvidt managed to get hold of the rebound and scored the 0-1 goal.

11 minutes in, and already pulling back. After a low score last week, I wanted to get in on a rout. Maybe I will not concede a goal though. In 4 competition matches, the only goal I gave up was to a series VI bot.

The game had been on for 11 minutes when Tony Spicer broke through to the right, upping the score to the home crowd´s dismay. Complex´s were up 0 - 2. After this Complex lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts.

I've brought in a bunch of midfielders in the last week and wanting to give my top 2 players a rest moved one of them to forward and he came through for me.

What ever got into Felix Conroy, the crowd mumbled, as he suddenly struck a cross pass through the own defense - ending up right in front of Square´s Leo Seals, who easily put the ball away for 0-1.

McGees's Thad Amos scored 0 - 2 by shooting accurately and hard from a long distance, leaving the opponent goalie no other option than to pick up the ball from the net. In the 43rd minute United put themselves up 0 - 5 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. Scorer was Roffe Duvholt. ...

Leo Seals was, after 44 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors lead with a well placed diving header but home side keeper Charley Landis saved. 0 - 1 was the half-time score.

Got the half time lead, now it's up to my 5 defenders.

Colorado held the ball, with a clear 56 percent possession rate.

Hopefully my stamina training will pay off in half 2 and I can hold the ball longer.

Other FOFC Hattrick updates:

Almost all the way down to the corner flag Paofai Croom-Carter somhow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for Sam Jones who struck for 0 - 1. Due to some great work on the right wing Spartans:s Long Burton was able to even the score in the 12th minute to 1 - 1. Galesburg took the lead in the games 16:th minute with 1 - 2 after some elegant plays down the middle. Leonardo Andres Alvaro was the scorer. The away team´s Elliott Hammond took advantage of a mistake to the home side´s right in the 23rd minute increasing Galesburg´s lead to 1 - 3. Juán Applegate of Spartans received a yellow card in the 28:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Halftime score was 1 - 3. Galesburg held the ball, with a clear 75 percent possession rate.

We got 68% possession of the ball in both the first and second half, which certainly helped give us 8 scoring chances and only one for our opponent. Bernard Martinez received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly, probably out of lack of experience, in the 47:th minute and almost caused an opponent to score. The game had been on for 47 minutes when John Colvin broke through to the right, upping the score to the home crowd´s dismay. goldurnears´s were up 0 - 5. goldurnears came close to extending their lead as Elijah Dupree delivered a long range shot from the right but the angle was to sharp, and the shot hit the side of the goal.

The match is in progress, 46 minutes of the second half have been played.
A scorching day at kocsport Arena, where 4125 spectators were in place for today´s match. kocsport had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Nedermar - Sanford, Williams, Capps, Obrien - Miquel, Cornell, Holm, Bourque - Irizarry, Kaliappan.

Bamas had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: Eden - Morton, Werner, Abernathy, Stump, Hauser - Gee, Wei-Guo, Burnette, Donnelly - Graf.

Bamas´s Erwin Werner could have put the guests one up in the 19:th minute, chasing a through ball but Ulf Nedermar was fast as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. Halftime score was 0 - 0. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Bamas, with an impressive 70 percent possession of the ball.

Bamas, bringing the final ball possession rate to 70 percent, dominated the battle.

After the regular 90 minutes, the agonizing of overtime followed.

The most boring game I have ever seen. I love 5-4-1!

Arena: Detroit Field
Crowd: 7000

A scorching day at Detroit Field, where 7000 spectators were in place for today´s match. Detroit started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. They fielded: Broome - Kolb, Lackey, Moore, Saylor - Abad, Gifford, Cavanaugh, Kelly - Delgado, Tuttle.

McGees started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Kuykendall - Wood, Dillon, Cordero - Duckworth, Amos, Churchill, Millet, Taylor - Dunbar, Hyun-Suk.

McGees´s Paul Dillon gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead in the 8:th minute with a superb strike from the right. McGees's Thad Amos scored 0 - 2 by shooting accurately and hard from a long distance, leaving the opponent goalie no other option than to pick up the ball from the net. In the 30:th minute the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as Thad Amos finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 33rd minute McGees goal, making it 0 - 4. Jed Churchill was noted down as the scorer. By now McGees were drawing the troops back in order to defend their lead. 0 - 4 was the half-time score. McGees held the ball, with a clear 69 percent possession rate.

An indecisive goaltender looked on as a free kick by McGees´s Allan Cordero put the visitors up 0 - 5 after 67 minutes. Fred Dunbar increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 6. The referee showed Detroits Daniel Kelly the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Wen Hyun-Suk didn´t pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. McGees´s Wen Hyun-Suk received a play slashing through the home side´s defense in the 79:th minute, chipping it past the keeper scoring 0 - 7. The home crowd was not pleased with that one. Jamie Duckworth increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 8. McGees held the ball, with a clear 83 percent possession rate.

The most dominating Detroit player was without a doubt Emery Cavanaugh. However, William Moore made a disastrous appearance. Most important McGees player was Dagoberto Millet. Jed Churchill on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 8.

Do you wanna be ranked? Wouldn't see why not...

Cowtown, mostly 'b' squad on PIC, win round 2, 6-1, but lose passable forward with passable passing for 2 weeks (he was in cuz his form sucks so bad I didn't play him in league on sunday. He scored twice before he went down).

I drew a division 5 team, though he was up to division 4 for last year. I think I might have a decent shot at beating him as long as I don't suffer and injuries or cardings in my league game. I get the game at home, though I think we're pretty close in the ratings so I'm really hoping I can pull the upset.

the Pittbulls will have to give everything they got from now on, by looking at our next opponent, a team called "come upins" from Montreal. Look at his club history:

Date Event
3/16/2003 come upins finished as number 6 in III.4 season 6
1/2/2003 The team was kicked out of the Cup at round 4 season 6
11/24/2002 come upins finished as number 7 in II.2 season 5
9/12/2002 The team was kicked out of the Cup at round 4 season 5
8/3/2002 come upins finished as number 1 in III.10 season 4
5/2/2002 The team was kicked out of the Cup at round 1 season 4
4/14/2002 come upins finished as number 1 in IV.26 season 3
2/15/2002 The club changed owner astimothymcevenue took control and renamed it come upins

We're talking about a former div II team here, that has a series IV and series III champions medal on his wall. I don't know why he's been relegated, but it will be a tough one for us next week. He posted a total rating of 51 in today's cup game and 57 in last week's cup game... Ouch! My tiny 42 average seems pale in comparison...

I'm surprised I got a lower level team than most of you (who've posted so far anyway) have. The team I'm going against has a GF-GA of something like 17-0 in their last 3 games, but their still at level 5 team. I'm gonna send out my A squad against them, so I'm really hoping I have a shot.

I may (will probably) end up getting blown out, though I'm hoping my 5-4-1 boredom strategies can do something.

I pulled a Div. 5 team....He appears to be equal to my team...he got his team last june, but also has not made a transfer since june....so I am not sure how the game will go.

edit: His team name is 'Frank and the Lads', and he is currently # 1 in V.144...it doesn't show his last 5 logins...so it might be an inactive team....but he has won his last 3 matches 14-0...so I still might lose.

Hmm. I drew a IV.4 team playing 5-4-1. North Shore Kix (72181)

He's played against bots the first two rounds, and I'll be his first human opponent. Other than his bot Cup matches, he's been outscored 13-3 in his last 4 matches (both league and friendlies).

I might be able to beat this guy. Any tips on playing against a 5-4-1?

And the Ruskies roll, now that all starters are healthy again, stretching their unbeaten streak to 14.

Delaware Gurus - Ruskies 0 - 7

Date: 4/10/2003 at 01:00
MatchID: 6867657
Arena: Delaware Park
Crowd: 6955

6955 spectators had come to Delaware Park this cloudy day. Delaware started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Sumner - López, Rector, Mcallister, Douglass - Rubio, Brown, Alemparte, Thomas - Tang, Aviles.

Ruskies had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. They fielded: Sanderson - Singh, Sharp, Hirsch, Khaira - Kapur, Hinton, Vogt, Garlick, Payne - Daugherty.

Ruskies´s Lester Vogt could have put the guests one up in the 21st minute, chasing a through ball but Marcus Sumner was fast as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. Mark Khaira of Ruskies received a yellow card in the 32nd minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. The terraces were silenced in the 32nd minute as Ruskies´s Kevin Hinton put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack from the right. After 33 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Jim Daugherty who increased Ruskies´s lead to 0 - 2. In the 33rd minute the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as Kevin Hinton finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Ruskies´s Aghaghna Kapur received a play slashing through the home side´s defense in the 41st minute, chipping it past the keeper scoring 0 - 4. The home crowd was not pleased with that one. After this Ruskies lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts. The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 4. Ruskies, bringing the final ball possession rate to 84 percent, dominated the battle.

Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 50:th minute Ruskies goal, making it 0 - 5. Lester Vogt was noted down as the scorer. Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 56:th minute Ruskies goal, making it 0 - 6. Jim Daugherty was noted down as the scorer. In the 62nd minute the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 7 as Wally Sharp finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Ruskies, bringing the final ball possession rate to 91 percent, dominated the battle.

The most dominating Delaware player was without a doubt Hugo Aviles. Gale Douglass was a disappointment, however. Most important Ruskies player was Roy Payne. However, Lester Vogt made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 7.

Fool, you can't defeat the 5-4-1!

I might try running something with 3 defenders if I were you. 3-5-2 might be good. Against only one striker you'll hopefully be able to hold your own with 3 back there, and you can match up in the midfield. Send your playmaking wings out there and hope they can set up your forwards.
