This guy is gonna catch you in post count in a few years. Say hello to JeeberD Jr, aka Brendan Alec Eckberg, aka Monster Baby...11lb 4oz, 22 inches long. And yes, my wife (luckily) had a c-section, though we had no idea he would be that big. We were thinking 10lbs, tops...

That is awesome. He's really cute. Most babies are ugly at first, but he's not.

True story - My mom had my sister without a C section, and my sister was 11 lbs 8 oz. I can't imagine the pain.

The 49ers have reportedly offered "Monster Baby" a 5 year/as many cookies as you can eat and lots of toys deal to start at Right Guard. Word is they are still ironing out some of the performance bonuses.

Well, it appears there can be drawbacks to being being a monster baby that's too big to fit through the birth canal and a tough guy that doesn't like to cry.

Having to be delivered by c-section means that all the amniotic fluid in Brendan's lungs didn't get forced out during delivery. And the fact that he barely cries means that he hasn't been able get rid of the remnants that remained in there. He's developed some sort of infection, likely in the lungs (the pediatrician suspects pneumonia) and is having to spend the next 5-7 days away from us getting antibiotics. Right now he's in the NICU, but if his breathing steadies below 60 (he's all over the place, as high as in the 70s, and normal in is the 40s) he should be able to go to the regular nursery until he's done with his medicine. Once his breathing gets below 60, my wife will also be allowed to feed him, but as long as he's in the NICU that's the only time we're really allowed to touch him.

My wife is pretty upset, but she understands that it's good that they caught it now and we didn't take him home and let it get worse and have to treat it then. So he'll miss his first Christmas at home, but at least he should be home in time for New Year's with nice, healthy lungs...

hoopsguy
12-23-2009, 07:11 PM
Good god, can you imagine that guy next to the NICU kids? It will be like Gulliver and the Lilliputians! My 7 pound daughter looked like a giant in there.

Hope everything goes as planned for Brendan and you guys are able to bring him home soon.

JeeberD
12-23-2009, 07:12 PM
Heh, one of the nurses there said that they had kids there that it would take three of to equal one Brendan, and I don't think she was joking at all...

JeeberDMack
12-23-2009, 10:01 PM
Oh, and if those of you who are on my Facebook could please refrain from mentioning anything about his being in the NICU there I would appreciate it. The wife doesn't want to post anything about it there, and would probably wring my neck if she knew I told y'all. Thanks...

Hah, I didn't catch this at the time. He never fit into newborn diapers, the nursery and NICU had to borrow diapers from Pediatrics because they didn't have any in his size.

It blows my mind how fast five years has gone by. He's SO ready to start Kindergarden in the fall, and he's such a good big brother to his little sister, who will be two in the spring. I just know I'm going to blink and he's going to be a teenager, and I'm nowhere close to being ready for that...

I love you, Bubba. Happy 5th birthday (on Sunday)!!!

Cute kid!

I totally missed this the first time around. Very odd similarity my son was 10lb 13oz and 24.5 inches long...and spent 10 days in NICU.

We got 15 minutes visitation 4x a day. I swear we got evil looks from the other parents.

Its crazy how fast time does fly. Lane turned 14 last month. That big baby is a HUGE kid. 6'4 245lb and a size 16-17 shoe...
