The more I live here, the less I like it...and mostly I'm not talking about the weather.

Anyhow, we're just getting rain in Lawton/Cache.

Is just because your in Lawton, trust me. That's not a pretty place. Spent 2 years in college there.

After letting me drive 25 minutes to work and waiting for the precip to change over to sleet, our blessed governor decided to send all state employees home. Brilliant!

Sleet and ice are the worst part about any storm in the southwest. Remember a storm way back in the 80's that froze my grandfathers pond 6 inches thick, no snow, just sleet! Or the storm in late 90's that knocked power out in southern OK for two weeks because they hadn't kept the trees trimmed back off the power lines. Stupid OG&E. KG&E had to come down after two weeks to help them out.

At least you don't have to drive on it after it sticks, duckman.

Hopefully.

On a side note, I'll take the foot+ of snow where I currently am over an inch of ice any day of the week. Thanks all the same.

Ugh. I'm driving up to DFW in about an hour and a half. I should be getting there just as it starts getting interesting.

Wow, we've had actual blizzard conditions for several hours now! I have about 6 inches of snow in my yard with drifts as high as 2 feet.

We had blizzard conditions for most of the day. We lost electricity about 10:30 Central and just got it back (about 7:00 PM Central).

I ate an MRE.

Anyhow, since it was dark we got the Christmas presents out and put them under the tree. The power came back on and the kids didn't realize that it came back. We then scrambled to get the presents back in our room before we let them know.

We have a blizzard warning in KC metro area for the first time ever. Expecting a foot of snow with 40-50 MPH winds. Guess we'll stay inside for Christmas.

The drive up was interesting. Heavy snow and winds started about an hour into the drive, and lasted about 40 miles. Then it let up for a bit, and came back with a vengance about 60 miles south of Fort Worth. A pickup towing a pop-up camper jackknifed and blocked both lanes of I-35W. Then when I got to Fort Worth, the big overpasses were either closed by the police, or closed because someone spun out and wrecked at the top. After a stop by my parents' house, I continued on to my aunts' place, and that took me another 45 minutes to go 15 miles. Lots of black ice formed after nightfall.

I'm stuck at home for Christmas because all the state highways are closed. We had to move our Christmas dinner back in hopes it will be safe enough to travel tomorrow or Sunday.

Well crap, we were supposed to head down to Tulsa this afternoon(One I actually wanted to go to, doesn't happen often.) It's not too bad up here I'm just a little South of Wichita, the wind has died down and it stopped snowing pretty early this morning.

Doesn't sound good down there though.

My mother is snowed in in Norman. Was supposed to work today 20 minutes south of there but the highways were closed, she said. 14 inches in OK is almost on disaster level. I'm not even sure they have enough plows in the state to take care of this in any kind of timely manner. Same for north Texas really.

Nuts here. Still snowing with heavy winds. Hard to tell how much snow we had. 14-16 inches in some parts of the yard with other parts only having 2-4 inches. Blowing all over the place.

pooring rain here... I noticed a dripping sound, my gutters are frozen, so the water was getting under the ice, and into the roof? or something, spent some time on a ladder, in 35 degree rain, chipping ice with a channel lock! wooo

Finally ventured out with the snow blower late this afternoon. Driveway near the home had 2-4 inches, most of the drive had 7-9 with drifts of 12-18 inches. We've got drifts in the side yard and back yard around 3 feet -- enough to tower over the air conditioner.

I've never seen a storm with so much dispute over snowfall totals. The drifting makes it almost impossible to get a good measurement. Apparently same thing in OKC -- reading some of the weather-nerd comments online, looks like a lot of people are disputing the 14" inches in OKC.

Regardless, any storm putting out 8-10 inches in Missouri, Oklahoma and eastern Kansas is out of the norm.

Oh, and it's still snowing. :)

Yeah, it's supposed to snow off and on today. I'm quite pleased with my home builder right now. Evidently, he built it just right so a north wind would blow off most of my driveway. :)

We're getting hammer right now. Some places already have an inch of ice. My area not too bad right now, but the heavier rain is moving in and could put us in the same position as some others in the area.

We're supposed to get hit by...something...tomorrow night into Saturday. Raleigh, as always, is sitting somewhere on the boundary between one form of precip and another. It's a little different this time in that it should be frozen no matter what, but what sort of frozen precip it is depends on time of day. Moreover, the local stations are all over the place on the forecast accumulations, ranging anywhere from 1-2" up to near a foot (though that prediction has since backslid to about half a foot). Since the predicted mixture of precip oscillates between nearly all snow and mostly snow, it's pretty hard to determine what about an inch of forecasted liquid precip will actually amount to in snow and ice. If it were all snow and the standard 10:1 ratio is used, then that's nearly 10 inches, but obviously, any amount of icing will trim the snow total back.

I thought that earlier this winter when we had our big storm. After a couple of days, the novelty wears off and you get REALLY tired of shoveling snow and dealing with mud everywhere.

But don't let me kill your excitement. :)

We've been without electricity since 4 PM on Thursday. We called yesterday morning and our electric company, the Cotton Electric co-op, told us that all their substations were out and it would be days until we got electricity back.

Our house is 100% electric. We came down to Wichita Falls yesterday and will go back tomorrow.

Cotton Electric's outage map is here: MilSoftOMS (http://www.cottonelectric.com/outage/index.html)

Ended up with about 4" on the back porch when I checked at breakfast this morning, but could have been a little more since it's somewhat sheltered by the house and the trees in the yard. However, it's been mostly sleet since dawn this morning when I first heard the sleet pelting our windows and driving me out of sleep. It's not expected to totaly finish until later tonight now and so I think we'll end up between 5 and 6" between all the snow and sleet. We'll be going through a couple of days of thaw-freeze cycles, as well, as temps will creep to freezing tomorrow and then plunge to the low teens tomorrow night. I may be one of the few to get to work on Monday since I've got 4x4 and I'm used to driving in this from my days in Michigan.
