Hey does anyone have one of these and if so do they really make a difference? I have an older laptop that tends to heat up and thought these were a great idea if they work.

completely anecdotally - i picked up a USB-powered one a few weeks back because the fan in my laptop was shot and my laptop was massively overheating. It's got dual-fans in it...and i have to say i no longer notice my laptop getting as hot-to-the-touch.
i could probably run speedfan and see what the difference in temperature is now...but i haven't.
good investment if you need it...yeah.

Notebook Coolers : A Buyers Guide (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=304671)
Let me know if you end up wanting to buy one. I bought a Zalman NC2000 a couple of months ago after I ordered a Dell SXPS, which was known to run pretty hot. When Dell took ages to get my laptop to me I switched to a Sager NP8760, which could make an argument for being the best cooling laptop ever.
Would give you a deal, so let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for the responses. I am going to look a little more at what is out there. PM me with what you want for the Zalman.
Definitely help a lot, specially if you use them over your knees. The difference is from burning your legs after 30 minutes without it, to not noticing any heat after over 2 hours.
I have one made of some metal (aluminum?) with 2 big coolers powered by USB, it also has an small angle so it makes easier to type in the keyboard. The size is also good enough for a 18" widescreen notebook like mine. Another good point is that it makes really little noise, that is something you need to look at too.
Here is a review i just googled:
Cooler Master NotePal Laptop Cooler | Hardware Secrets (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/300)
Also found it in amazon:
Amazon.com: Cooler Master NotePal Laptop Cooler (R9-NBC-ADAS / ADAK): Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-NotePal-Laptop-R9-NBC-ADAS/dp/B0009WPSEC)
Both of those links show it in aluminum color, mine is black.

I bought one in order to play some games on my laptop. Without the cooler frames would start to skip within 15 minutes or playing any reasonably graphics intensive game, but the cooler seemed to fix that entirely. That's about the only evidence I can point to as to whether it works or not though.
