View Full Version : An Irish EU3 Dynasty - Complete!!!

Okay folks, well, after some failed dynasties in France, I figured I would try a bit easier dynasty in Ireland. My goals are simple, to unite Ireland and rive England from it, take all of Britain, and colonize areas of the new world that would make sense for a united Ireland. I can also do other stuff if I want, like grab Scandinavia or mainland provinces, for example.

Abe Sargent

Okay, allow me to introduce the new dynasty.

It is mid-October, 1399, and the island of Ireland is split into five fiefs, four independently held by Irishmen and the fifth by England. King Turlough IV O’Conor Don rules Connacht, formed by the province of Connaught (note the spelling difference). Without an heir, Turlough has seen the province ruled by his hand for 15 years. And yet, without a firm heir, there may be problems in the future.

Seeing a need for stability, Turlough appoints a new Chancellor to begin to handle some affairs of state. This relative unknown, Searlas Mac Lochlainn, will try to unit Ireland behind the Connacht flag.

Connaught:

The province has 1801 Irish fishermen of Catholic descent working this port. The taxbase is 3 - the poorest province in Ireland. Because of that, we can only have unit of troops before we hit our max, but our neighbors are not so limited.

Our sliders are completely messed up, and I mean seriously so. It will take a long time to fix Connacht. Let’s take a look:

Decentralized to the max. -20% tax, -5% spy defence, -15 production efficiency, etc.

Aristocracy strong, which I like. Extra diplomats, cheaper cavalry, more expensive infantry and enough will give your leaders + shock in combat.

2 steps towards Serfdom - Yuck. One good thing about Bar was how free the people were. Here we get -10% stability cost, which is nice, and -2% infantry cost, but lower morale of armies, and +8% to learn new technologies - yuck.

2 steps towards narrowminded, Yuck. +6% to tech costs, but extra missionaries, war exhaustion, spy defence, colonial growth, papal influence, and lowered stab cost. I don’t think it’s worth it though. None of it is that important compared to all five tech intevestments. Like I’m going to use missionaries or colonial growth right now.

In the middle of Mercantilism and Free Trade

2 towards Offensive. I prefer Defenseive because I want the siege bonus, but a full thing towards Offensive wouldn’t be that bad, if I wanted to pursue that.

1 towards Land, more expensive colonists, betetr morale, forelimtis and manpower, reduced infantry and calavry costs, shops have increased costs.

1 towards Quantity - more manpower, lowered infantry cost, less discipline, and better reinforce speed.

I prefer:

A bit more Centralized
Aristocratic
Free Subjects
Innovative
Don’t care much about Free Trade vs. Mercantilism
Land or Naval based on situation (Land initially, but Naval for an island state like Ireland)
Quality by far

Abe Sargent
12-27-2009, 08:39 PM
In order to move my sliders where I want, I will have to move them: 34 times. That means it will take me around, roughly, 340 years to do it completely. So, expect that someitme in 1750 to have my country working. That’s stupid. I check the sliders of the other Irish provinces to see if Ii can find a better group.

Leinster - Exactly the same. Not a good sign. Tyrone, Munster? Muster yes but not Tyrone. Tyrone:

4 Decentralization, not 5.
3 Aristocratic and 2 Serfdom, as before
Just 1 Narrowminded
3 towards Mercantilism
1 Defensive
1 Naval
1 Quality

Okay, forget this, I’m playing Tyrone, even if its flag looks stupid compared to Connacht, which was the only reason I wanted to play Connacht.

Abe Sargent

My King is Niall O Neill and son is a strong 6 year old Donal O’Neill5/5/3 are my rulers ADM< and 4/3/6 his son’s.

Unlike the other Irish minors, I begin with two vessels in my fleet instead of one. I also can have 2 units.

Ulster - 1000, taxbase of 5, 7.6 ducats made here annually, grain, Catholic, Irish, port, north east of Ireland.

I cut my naval maintenance in half, make the ruler a general, and reduce military maintenance for now.

I move us one towards Free Subjects and we have a Better Administration event fire of that cuts our non-existant inflation.

I have 5 diplomats. Where to send them? How about marriages to, Scotland, England, Leinster and Munster.

Okay, here we go.

Abe Sargent

Early Days

Oct 16 - All accept our ROYAL Marriages and the nobles wants us to enter one with Connacht, but I’ll hold off for now, as Connacht is the obvious place to go if we decide to conquer.

Oct 7 - England sends an insult

Nov 1, 1399 - Stab increase

3 Dec, I notice that England has the mission to Conquer Ireland. That’s going to be pissy.

4 Dec - I offer an allince offer to Denmark and they accept. Whew. A real alliance.

Jan 1, 1400 - Stab increase

Jan 28 - There are now 2000 English in Meath, their Irish province and next to me.

Mar 5 - I send an insult to Connacht

May 15 - Denmark annexes Holstein.

May 17 - Denmark for some reason rejects our RM. Odd.

July 23 - France annxes Berry

Oct 14 - I check the advisors available. I hire one star Trade Tech and Land Tech investers

Oct 17 - Now Denmark accepts a RM.

Nov 1 - I now have enough manpower to build another regiment - infantry I choose because its cheaper and helps in the sieges. I increase my military maintenance to full.

Joining Europe

Dec 12, England pisses me off by guaranteeing the independence of Connacht, and now I cannot easily attack next year like I was planning to. Blast you England!

Jan 1, 1401 - I have two thousand troops and a fleet to carry them on, but Rms against Leinster and Munster. Feh, I drop maintenance again. I enter into a Rm with France.

Feb 6 - Brittany and us in Marriage

Mar 5 - Burgundy rejects RM, Cleves accepts

May 3 - We enter into a RM with Connacht - might as well since we cannot attack any time soon. Our new mission is to have more boats than Munster. Okay, I order aGallyey constructed.

July 4 - RM with Burgundy

Aug 22 - We are guaranteed by England.

Oct 26 - Our ship is finished, we complete the mission and gain 5 navy tradtiion. Our new mission is a doozy - Save the Irish People in Meath. We have gained a Conquest Casus Belli on England.

Jan 3, 1402 - Castille claim the role of Defender of the Faith.

Apr 1, Brittany is now guaranteeing the independence of Connacht, Munster and Leinster.

July 5 - Rejections for Rms from Gelre, Frielsland and Oldenburg. Wow, no one likes me or something.

I cancel our mission and take a 5 prestige hit, and then I get an accumulate money one.We lost that CB on England.

Oct 10 - England at war with Aragon.

Oct 19 - They have withdrawn troops from Meath.

Dec 3 - RM with Savoy and Milan. Failed one with Naples.

Feb 4, 1403 - Guaranteed now by Brittany,

July 20, 1403 - Donal O’Neill takes over after his father dies. Our new heir is Eoghan, a strong heir.

The good thing about this is now I don’t have all of those Royal Marriages, which is both good and bad. I need to re-establish a few of them now, let’s look at Scotland and Denmark.

July 23 - Scotland accepts .

July 24 - Denmark too

Bold Moves Before a Friend

Did you know that Leinster is also guaranteed by England, but not Munster? Muster has no ally, no RM with me anymore, and no guarantee by England. Hmmm. I wait for a bit. Perhaps now is the time to strike.

Aug 2 - I jack back up maintenance on my troops and order them to board our vessels

Nov 1 - My troops are off the coast of Munster, I DOW them. We lose four stability. I raise war taxes.

Nov 2 - Denmark does not join us, leaving us alliance less. Brittany does join Munster, but two of Brittany’s provinces are currently controlled by rebels so I’m thinking this is a good time to strike.

Nov 8 - battle is joined as our forces land at Munster.

Nov 12 - They flee

Nov 28 - They arrive at Ulster with their fleet and begin to besiege my captial. Clever

Mar 1, 1404 - Stab increase

May 9, - We get walls breached in Minster and I order an assault.

June 1 0 Stab increase

June 9 - Assault fails

Aug 12 - Munster falls to us. I send an Annex offer.

Aug 3 - Munster declines. I didn’t know they could od it. I order my forces to board our ships.

Aug 22 - They offer to pay us ducats and I decline.

Sept 1 - Stab increase

Sept 14 - They again reject annexation. This is weird, I‘ve never seen a state reject annexation after you capture it’s only province.

Sept 24 - Our troops land at Ulster to relieve the siege.

Oct 13 - We win and destroyed the entire Munster army. With no army AND no property, will they now see reason?

Oct 6 - Munster accepts annexation. We gain 0 prestige and 8 badboy plus the 2 badboy for DOWing them with no Casus Belli. But, it gives us breathing room.

Munster: 1878 Irish Catholics, fish, taxbase 4, 4.21 ducats annually. I move my National Focus to Munster. I will be stationing 1000 of my troops in each province. We are no longer at war with Brittany.

Years of Quiet and Harmony

Jan 1, 1405 - I order a Population Census in Munster.

Jan 3 - You are going to love this. Brittany has agreed to our offer of an alliance. Brittany’s other ally’s include England. Siena and Pisa are now free from Milan, and the Hansa has offered us a spot in their Hanseatic Trade League. I accept.

Jan 13 - RM with France

Feb 7 - Brittany is still having severe rebel problems with their Regency Council that just ended. I offer th eking a RM and he accepts.

Mar 2 - Hello! Scotland sends us an alliance offer. Hell yes. Anything to keep England off my back while I unite Ireland. One of my allies, Brittany, is allied with England, and the other, Scotland, allied with France.

The National Focus in Munster does the following: -2 minimum revolt risk and to the revolt risk, +.5 income, +5% missionary chance, +2% pop growth, +0% local manpower, +0% garrison growth, +50% colonial growth.

A nice tool to begin to unite and pacify the masses

Apr 23 - Castille rejects our RM offer

May 1 - Stab increase back to max. Portugal also rejects us.

July 1 - Smolensk is now independent. They have a really cool flag. So does the rebeler Saruhan in Turkey that declared independent in the Smyrna region a while ago.

Sept 3 - Aragon at least accepts our RM.

Jan 3, 1406 - RM with Brabant

May 8, Gelre declines and Friesland accepts a RM

Jun 8 - Pretender Pier I de Penguem has seized the throne of Brittany. The rebels won the country.

Jun 25 = Luxembourgh enters a personal union with Hesse

Jan 3, 1407 - RM with Savoy, Milan and Castille

Mar 26, The King of Burgundy fell ill

Mar 30 - Connacht has laid claim to the throne of Burgundy

May 23 - I get an event Trade Station Founded. Munster gets Trade Station forever, and it lowers local revolt risk by % and adds much to our taxes ther e- +10%. Nice event

June 7 - I use a Magistrate to create a Beautiful tapestry, a decision that will, for 20 years, reduce our revolt risk by %, increase yearly cultural tradition by 2 and increase our legitimacy by % annually. It costs 3 ducats and my magistrate.

July 29 - Bar is taken by Burgundy in war

Sept 9 - Granada was annexed by Castille in war

Oct 7 - Portugal rejects RM, we entered one with the Palatinate

March 17, 1408 - The options for easy Rms have dwindled. I have good realtions with many nations, but the father away you get, the less likely they are to want a RM with me.

This would be a great tome to strike at Leinster or Connacht. Brittany is likely to help them as she is our ally and England is off fighting Aragon and has been for some time, plus we are allied with England’s ally and Scotland, so it’s not like England thinks we are jokes or anything.

Aug 6 - Connacht has refused to give us military access.

Feb 20 , 1409 - Montenegro and Albania decalre independence from Venice

Apr 23 - I get a Tensions Along the Munster Border event. Because our national focus is on Munster, it is prospering and Leinster is moving their borders in order to take a bit of what we have. Leinster gains a Border Friction Casus Belli on us.

Sept 2 - The Pope excommunicated Bohemia

Nov 26 - Slider change, let’s see, let’s move…Free Subjects again to 0. We lose a stability for an event that fires.

Abe Sargent

An Interlude of Solace

Dec 26 - Pskov annexed in war by the Teutonic Order

Feb 4, 1409 - Albania annexed by Ottomans in war.

May 1 - Stability back

May 12 - Another tensions event, this time Connacht gains a Border Friction CB against me.

July 5 - Croatia declares itself separate from Hungary.

Aug 2 - I gained an Alliance Casus Belli against Provence and Naples because they are at war with Scotland, and I am an ally of Scotland. Weird. This new CB system will take some getting used to.

Aug 17 - Brittany declares war against Provence. I can just join them and get _2 stability. I see if DOWing them as an Alliance Broken CB will get me in for free and make my ally happy. I then accept the call form my ally and do not lose the stability. Everybody is happy. Nice.

I have no desire to send inn troops, Provence;s capital Anjou is already captured by France.

Sept 6 - Naples at peace with France and France gets Anjou and annexes Provence. Sept 10 - Nnaples rejects my white peace offer.

England is not allied with Brittany but Castille.

Oct 1, England warned us from attacking neighbors

Mar 4, 1411 - Naples accepts our White Peace offer.

Jun 4 - Naples lost an Italian provinces to the Ottomans, wow. Apulia.

Mar 27, 1412 - England’s heir is at his deathbed and Portugal and Luxembourg claim the throne.

July 1, 1412 - Land Tech increases

July 5 - Castille is DOWed by Aragon and her allies but England dishonors the alliance

Nov 24 - Siena declares independence from Naples as part of a peace treaty after losing a war.

Abe Sargent
12-28-2009, 02:59 AM
Dec 1, 142 - We gain a government tech and can choose our first National Idea

Options I like:

Grand Army = +33 Forcelimits.
Military Drill - +1 morale to armies
Engineer Corps - +1 to siege

And that’s it really. Look, no Idea will get me to fight on even terms with England. The other two Irish and the English ideas don’t really affect me. I can take the Irish minors without needing an Idea, but I am unable to fight England if I had all three military ones I want. I grab Military Drill and hope.

Dec 16- We win Glamorgan after a quick siege. I order my ships to take my forces back to Munster.

Belay that, to Marches. If I can keep grabbing these forts quickly, I can force peace for Meath. Plus England has a ton of ships in the area, I’m not sure I can make it across the Irish Sea right now.

Jan 1, 44 update

3000 English in Muster, not much progress on the siege.
Our 2787 troops led by Donal O’Neill in Marches, with about half morale.

Dec 1- I order another group of mecs in Munster - we have to hit hard

Dec 19 - I send them to Ulster

Jan 2, 1415 - Scotland captured Marches. They are stupid though, marching to Oxfordshire instead of hitting an army besieging their captured terrain.

Jan 28 - The English army is annihilated and gone.

Feb 25 - Yorkshire falls to the English

Mar 1 - production Tech increases

Mar 10 - the Yorkshire forces arrive at Cumbria

<May 31 - Our assembled forces win in Cumbria

Friday, June 29, 145 - England sends me a peace offer for Meath and some ducats. I agree.

We gain 8 prestige and 4 infamy.

That took a while, but it was worth it to drive the English from Ireland.

We gain 10 ducats from the mission to gain ducats.

I use some of the cash to build temples in Ulster and Munster.

Good luck Scotland!

My next mission is to create a proper fleet

I choose the national decision to Introduce Heir, and lose a diplomat, some ducats, and gain prestige, yearly cultural tradition for 4 years,

Meath - 3327 farmers of Irish and Catholic nature make us 7.95 ducats annually from a 6 taxbase. Meath has a temple. My army will be stationed here.

The Second English-Irish War

Nov 8 - England declared war against us and all of our allies, plus Leinster have joined us against England. I don’t really want anything from England. Money, some prestige, that’s it. I’d rather just take Ireland first. Perhaps one province her or there though would be nice, but hard to defend in future wars, so really, not much in this one.

I raise War Taxes, jack up maintenance.

Dec 1 - Land Tech Increase

I see their forces moving to Munster so I order mine there too.

3000 English infantry at Munster but I have 4000 infantry and 1000 calavry going there.

Jan 1, 1424 0 We defeat the English troops and follow them to leinster

Jan 23 - We win in Leinster

Luckily I had managed to replace my troops with longbowmen

Jan 28 - They land, and I’m not kidding, about 10000 troops in Munster.

Feb 8 - We destroy the first army in Meath after it fled Leinster. Back to Munster, sheesh

England is sending everything at me and very few troops seem to be left on the main island.

I hire some mercs

I have 7000 men, 2000 calvary and 5000 infantry from the mercs. I move to Munster. It will have to be enough. Big advantage in the early game for having Military Drill against a country that does not.

Henry IV himself is leading the siege of Munster

They now have 15000 troops so I order more reinforcements. It will push my budget, but I got to have more mercs

Aug 20 - The Battle For Munster Begins

Sept 11 - We win and lift the siege

Sept 22 - We win in Leinster and destroy the entire army with an army of 9000. Yay Miulitary Drill!

Now that we have momentum, to the ships!

Oct 23 - I land forces in Cumbria

Nov 26 - I have won three battles in Cumbria

Apr 25, 1425 - There have been a lot of minior and major assaults on Cumbria but I keep them off.

May 13 - They land 2k troops in Munster

June 25 - With Leisnter’s help, we win in Munster

July 27 - I drop two infantry in Lothian to relieve Scotland

Aug 5 - Scotland captures Ayrshire

Oct 16 - I have four sieges going on and I have some cavalry dispatched to move through the provinces and hit the English troops as they build more.

Lancashire falls to us

Oct 29 - I lose in Gwynnedd

Nov 7 - After a siege of over a year, Cumbrua falls to us

Nov 9 - My forces from Lancashire won in Gwynnedd

Jan 6, 1426 - Gwynnedd has become the new grinder. With the money fromt eh year, I squeeze out a couple thousand more mercs

Feb 24 - My main force gets hammered in Lincoln and barely wins with the help of the main Scottish army arriving at the nick of time.

Feb 28 - Lothian is recaptured by us and I move my infantry to Northumberland

Mar 6 - I get an event - The Weeping Song, where people are weeping, I can get badboy for 5000 manpower and 40 ducats or lose 40 ducats and 2 war exhaustion. I take the second and order another pair ofmercs for the grinder

May 3 - We lose in Lincoln completely

June 7 - We lose in Lancashire

June 25 - I assaulted and take Yorkshire

July 29 - I snuck my other army not in Gwynnedd into Londra and begin an assault

Aug 22 - We capture London itself baby.

Aug 23 - I take our huge warscore shopping.

So here is the deal I am sending.

They have to:

Renounce their claims on Meath
Give me 150 ducats
Release Wales and Northumberland as sovereign states
Ayrshire back to Scotland

They accept

Our truce with England is up.

Scotland is being ravaged by rebels and now is just four provinces, so I am glad for France’s alliance in case an English war comes.

Dec 1, Government Tech increase. We can get another Idea:

Options:

Quest for the New World
Engineer Corps
Grand Army

I take Quest. I want to start seeing Irish settlers in places like Greenland and Canada. Nothing too a historical like, say, South America or South Africa, but realistic. I recruit an Explorer and begin our search with the escorts of my fleet, but not the transports. Remember, some historians think Irish monks may have been in America in the Dark Ages.

Now, Scotland controls the alliance this time, so they are fighting or themselves, instead of for us, like normal. Scotland is advancing very quickly in the north so I may decide to make a seperae peace with England in order to get something, before they do so.

I make an offer to England to revoke their cores on Northumberland, Oxfordshire, East Anglia and give me some ducats. I get over 300 ducats in peace, plus the loss of claims by England.

A Temporary Pause

Apr 28 - Beothuk expands

Jun1 - My explorer died

June 3 - Pretender rebels destroyed

July 7 - RM with Cornwall, Northumberland, France, Oldenburg, and Milan

I spend 5 prestige to take away the stupid mission.

Our new mission is to turn The Canarias into a city

Sept 6 - RM with Castille

Nov 16 - RM with Portugal

Jan 9, 1471 - Revolt in East Anglia

Feb 5 - Rebels dead. Settlers to Beothuk

Feb 25 - Auvergne RM

May 20 - Fur in Beothuk

May 26 - Rebel problems in Burgundy and Munster declares independence (the other Munster, not mine J)

June 4 - Beothuk expands

If I were interested in just pure expansion, right now I’d DOW Holland, takes its two provinces, force vassalize it, and then have the COT of Holland in my nation.

Apr 24, 1472 - I now have a real navy

June 5 - Beothuk expands

Aug 3 - A bad event today. The King’s Reputation has been Tarnished as someone spreads lies aborad. I can embrace it and gain a badboy or execute someone and lose a stability. I choose to lose the stab.

Dec 21 - Slider time. Im tempted to go Aristocracy. My generals would get a full + shock. I went Free Subjects and lost 2 inflation with a Better Administration event.

Jan 2, 1473 - I send colonists to Eiriksfjord, the Greenland province next to Vestbygen

Jan 27 - RM with Norway

I could take Antwerp from Burgundy. They have allowed several of their northern provinces -- 4 of them, to be controlled by rebels for a while. They only have 3 other provinces. I could DOW them, take those three coastal provinces, grab a rebel one or two, and Burgundy would be forced to cede us Antwerp. I could take the COT of Antwerp and the one of Holland as mentioned before. The Continental powers are missing chances. Burgundy doesn’t have any allies and Hollands are laughable

In fact, I send my fleet over and it sees that Zeeland is under siege for Burgundy. Geez.

Feb 6 - Sweden took Orkney from Norway and vassalized them.

The Fifth English-Irish War

I send my fleet near Scotland and the north English provinces. What sorts of armies do they have?

Scotland has a total of 3000 troops in Lothian and Western Islands. England has no troops in their three Scottish provinces. So I don’t have to worry about being outflanked to the north anytime soon, In fact, there are no English forces anywhere on the island that I can see.

England’s allies - Scotland, Gelre, Milan and Corsica. Easily handled.

I can DOW England because I have a CB on Lincoln.

On my way back to my fleet’s roost in East Anglia, I see that their three French possession on the Straits of Dover have just 3000 troops. That means England has just 3000 troops and 3000 Scottish troops in shouting range. I decide to sneak my fleet down to Basque territory to check the other two provinces.

Apr 11 -Colony established in Eiriksfjord

Apr 30 - There are no troops in Gascogne or Labourd. Where are the English troops? Can they have just 3000 troops? I check the Ledger.

Yes, according to the Ledger, they have just 3000 troops. That is jus apeache ready for plucking. I prepare myself for war. My badboy is down to 5.4 This war will be to destroy England as a force.

July 14, 1473 - I have warred with England often, but I have only once before decalred it. Now I do so for the second time. I will send one army into London and the other into Yorkshire through Lancashire. I will recruit some mercs to make a siege of Lincoln while my two armies take the rest of the island.

All of my allies, including France, join us. Milan and Corsice dishouner their alliance.

Oct 1 - Trade tech increase

Dec 16 - I laugh at a white peace offer.

Dec 22 - Lancashire falls to us.

Jan 30, 1474 - Hesse annexes Wurzburg

Feb 28 - Lincoln falls

Mar 1 - Cumbria falls after a quick assault

Mar 3 - Gelre sends a white peace for just them and I accept

Mar 9 - The Cumbrian army arrives in Northumberland to try and break up a Scottish/English siege

Mar 11 - England sends me a peace offer for Lincoln, Wessex, Lancashire and Cumbria, plus 244 ducats, and I accept.

We gained a ton of prestige and 12 full badboy.

Lincoln - We have a CB so no rebellion here. 7843 English Catholic farmer, 8.6 ducats, Temple.7843

Wessex - 7843 English Catholic farmers, 8.6 ducats. East of Cornwall, west of London and Kent, south of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. Temple. 7.0% revolt risk

Lancashire - 9% revolt risk, .2 ducats made by the cloth makers, 4462 English Catholics, temple, north of Gwynedd, Marches and Lincoln, west of Yorkshire, south of Cumbria.

Cumbria - 1901 English Catholics, 5.79 ducats, 9% revolt risk, fishers, Temple, north of Yorkshire, Lancashire, west of Northumberland, south of Scotland’s Ayrshire and Lothian.

This war was the dagger. England is left with 5 French possessions, 3 Scottish ones, London, Kent and Yorkshire. It is no longer a threat, even with Scotland as its vassal.

Serendipity Unlooked For

Oh, I now accept English as a culture.

We’ll need to spend some time recuperating and bringing these provinces into the fold, but it is clear that we have hammered England massively.

Castille has taken Quest for the New World too.

May 18 - Eiriksfjord expands

June 21 - As you saw, I have a bunch of magistrates. I use decisions to build Post Offices in Oxfordshire, East Anglia, Lincoln and Gloucestershire. These give me +10% taxes and +0.05 Magistrates a year. These are decisions so they cost me a magistrate and 20 ducats each, but now we have some post offices. , yay!

July 3 - Brabant declares independence from Burgundy, one of those provinces I mentioned before that had rebels for waaay too long.

Sept 9 - The Pope Excommunicated Venice

Sept 11 - I have inherited Auvergne.

Poitou:33390 Cosmopolitaine Salt makers of Catholic ness. 1.26 ducats, this is a core through inheritance and no revolt. This port province is adjacent to Vendee, Anjou, Berry, Limousin, Perigord and England in Gascogne. It has a temple.

Auvergne - Deep in France, 7 ducats by the 15094 Iron miners, of Occitain Catholic descent. Temple. Next to Bourbon, Limousin, Perigord, Rouergue, Languedoc, Dauphine, Lyonnais and Burgundy’s captial Bourgogne.

Crazy

Oct 2 - I release Auvergne as a vassal and both provinces are now Auvergne again as my vassal. I lose some badboy, will get some income from them. I offer a RM and they accept.

Nov 4 - Auvergne accepts a military alliance offer from me.

Jan 1, 1475 - I send more colonists to Beothuk

I send my fleet to destroy some pirates I destroyed 6 pirates by Castille.

Mar 13 - We get an event - Military Complacency. I can choose to l;ose some military investment or lose a stability. No to the stab loss.

Apr 29 - Beothuk expands

I just noticed that England’s new mission, after vassalizing Scotland, is to conquer Ireland. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Jan 9 - Rebellion in Gwynedd

Jan 18 - Which we win

May 1 0 Beothuk expanded

Oct 1 - Land Tech Increase. We can now build Galloglaigh Infantry.

We are the most advanced Land Tech, and Auvergne is #2. No one else is above 9, but we just hit 11. We are tied with France and Auvergne for 10 in Government which is the most, but in other areas, not so much. Remember though that I have had advisors in these areas for a long time, with this very intent.

Jan 1, 1477 - Colonists to Eiriksfjord

Feb 14 - RM with Holstein

Apr 1 - Burgundy bankrupt again. Burgundy is dead in the water. Interestly, this is about the time when Burgundy was reabsorbed by France after its ruler died in real life.

Apr 9 - Expansion

June 6 - Diplomatic Insult. I can ease the tension and get +60 relation with England, Northumberland and Cornwall, or pursue it and get an Insult CB against Cornwall. I ease

July 1 - I get an alliance CB against Corsica.

Sept 19 - Both Western Isles and Aberdeen have been captured by rebels

Oct 1 - Burgundy Bankrupt yet again

Oh England, I love you, but I love France more.

I order my troops into English territory in three places - London, Yorkshire, and Scotland.

We get a new mission - Naval race vs. England.

Nov 13- Gelre captures the Canarias. Pissy.

Dec 7 - Yorkshire falls to us

Dec 27 - I crush a small English army in Wessex trying to capture it

That means The Canarias is ours again. I use some of the Blood money to rebuild th effort

June 0 - France takes Gascogne, Labourd and Picardie in peace. Now England is down to just Caux and Calais on the mainland.

July 2 - Our rebels in Scotland managed to declare independence and Highlands and Western Isles are now Scottish again. I had destroyed the English rebels in the north during the war and cleared the way for my funded rebels. When this happens, you begin with good relations.

Apr 22, 1482 - Eiriksfjord expands

July 1 - Eiriksfjord is now a full city

Eiriksfjord - 1500 Irish Catholic fisher, wall being built, just 3.2 ducats annually.

I’ve been able to try and annex Northumberland or Cornwall for three years now, but each says it is Very Unlikely, so I’m not going to play those odds.

Apr 1, 1483 - In order to use my colonists, because I am sitting on 5, I make another explorer.

May 11 - NLD Baffin, a Wasteland

I enact Land Reform in Oxfordshire

Sept 8 - NLD Kespek, Stadacona

Nov 6 - Bavaria annexed Ansbach

Dec 1 - NLD: Cree

Government Tech Increase. We can gain another idea.

There really aren’t a lot I like anymore. I can go whole hog with fighting and take Grand Army or National Conscripts, or I can go with a naval oriented one like Superior Seamanship, or I could go with Exploration and take Colonial Ventures or Land of Opportunity.

Mar 11 - NLD - Massachusetts, Narraganset

Mar 17 - NLD - Powhatan, Connecticut, Conoy

Mar 26 - Slider time

I take us to the middle of centralized, and get a pretender in Meath with 5000 rebels

Apr 14 - NLD - Unami

May 1 - Naval tech increase. I can now blockade ports and get an increased colonial range. Let’s see where to send some colonists.

It looks like the only additional place I can colonize is Innu. Yuck. Low tax value. I send colonists because there is nothing else.

May 2 - I incite natives for a cheap price (10 ducats) in Unamakik and kill a number of colonists in order to slow down Castille.

Okay, here is what I do. I kick out my 3 star naval tech advisor, because he’s been around the block and I need a new advisor.

I create a 3 star navigator and hire him, expanding my colonial range by 15%. Now where can I go?

I send colonists to Epekwitk, and Labrador

I decide to end the Castillean threat. I send in spies to incite more natives. Results:

Succeeded and Discovered
Succeeded and was Discovered and colony destroyed.

I send in colonists

I los t lot of prestige, and Castile funds pirates off the coast of Greenland, so I send in my fleet.

July 17 - Pirates destroyed.

Aug 8 - Castille puts pirates in Notre Dame Bay by Beothuk.

Aug 18 - I win in Meath vs. the Pretenders. They run to Ulster and I follow.

Aug 28 - Pirates killed.

Sept 1 - Production tech increases and I can now build Workshops.

Sept 3 - Failure to set up colony in Innu

Sept 11 Won in Ulster and rebels are defeated.

Sept 18 - Failure in Labrador (and each of those had a 68% chance of success)

Oct 23 - Colony in Epekwitk

Oct 30 - Unamakik colony

Nov 1 - I am not going to send more colonists to Innu or Labrador right now, because they are tax value 1 provinces like the others I have been colonizing here, and I want to focus on my two slightly better ones.

The Workshop increases tax income by 2% in a province, and costs a little less than 50 to make. So, in order to make back the investment, I need a lot of tax income in the province itself. East Anglia gets the first one.

Dec 10 - We got a gift of ducats from France. I’ve never seen that happen before, actually.

Dec 25 - NLD: Attawapiskat

Feb 4, 1486 - We fight off pirates off the coast of Greenland again

Jan 1, 1487 - I am not going to send any colonists this year, and instead build a Workship in Oxfordshire

Jan 10 - Suck. We get a Political Crisis. I can gain 3 badboy or lose a stability. Damn. I choose the stability.

Jan 15, Cornwall has improved to maybe for annexation. That’s good news. I send in a diplomat to demand annexation. Rejected. I will send a gift in a month

July 3 - Annexation rejected. Gift will be sent in a month

Aug 2 - For the first time in a long time the Holy See does not control the Holy See, the Teutonic Order does.

Sept 28 - A Regent is now in Castille.

Oct 6 - A Cardinal from Lincoln and Meath are in the Curia. We control 2, as does Sweden and the Order. It is possible we could win the Papacy if a third cardinal jumps to us. The Pope recently died and we have a lower chance than before.

Nov 8 - Rejection of annexation. Come on now.

Jan 16, 1488 - he Teutonic Order lost a Cardinal so Sweden won instead of us. They declare a Holy War on the Ottomans.

Feb 2 - We discover Muskogee and their capital Tuskegee. We gain a Colonial Conquest CB on the Cherokee. If I wanted to, I could load up my fleet, send one of my armies over, and take this land right now.

March 16, 1488 - We have become the Papal Controller. We get a bonus to our stability cost, which is good because we are still working on that. We get extra diplomats, prestige and papal influence.

We only have two Cardinals, one of the Swedish ones died, so this is very temporary. Let me see what I can do.

I cannot Excommunicate until 1490. Man, I wish I could Excommunicate England. That’d be hot.

Since I am Papal Controller, maybe Cornwall will accept annexation now?

HAHAHA - They do.

Cornwall - 17169 Welsh Catholics work the copper mines here, making us 5.60 ducats annually with a revolt risk of 9%, West of Wessex and Gloucestershire, this has a temple. One more province closer.

Slow and Steady

Mar 24 - My explorer has passed away

Apr 23 - I order a Post Office in Lancashire

May 2 - Rebels in Ayrshire

May 14 - Defeated

June 11 - Innu expands and more are sent

I figured out why Portugal likes Unami. 1500 natives with no aggressiveness means you can colonize it and there is no chance of an uprising (unless another pays for it)

Sept 1 - I have 2 Carracks on a patrol around all of our colonies to keep off pirates and help get us the tarriffs.

Oct 1 - Naval Supplies in Labrador

Oct 7 - Austria annexes Switzerland

I am still the Papal Controller, and I can choose to Excommunicate again. Who do I want to take out? No one really. Austria is waaaaaay too big, so I’d like to do them but they are ruled by a Regency Council right now, so there is no one to hammer.

I think I should have taken the land from England instead of vassalization.

I can lift Excommunication for England

I Excommunicate Sweden

Oct 13 - Innu expands and I send in more colonists

Feb 14, 1494 - Expansion of Innu

Mar 1, Gloucestershire and Marches are now cores. Government tech increase

Mar 6 - I extend the Road Network in Lancashire. This costs me a magistrate.

+3% local tax, +0.05 magistrates annually, extra trade and manpower too

Want to know something interesting? The Tyrone O’Neills are in the throne of France, Sweden, Oldenburg, Aragon and Brabant. Sort of like the Hapsburgs on a smaller scale.

June 27 - Innu expands and becomes a major colony, it gets an extra manpower and some manpower from the mission. Our new mission is to have a larger army than Portugal which is actually very doable.

Innu - I order a fort here. 1602 Irish Catholics, fishers, 5.07 ducats annually

I order a workshop in Gloucestershire

July 1 - Our Naval advisor has died. I do not get another just yet.

Aug 25 - Mission accomplished. The next one is Fortify Innu, which I am working on anyway

Sept 7 - Today we lost all of our Trade Stations because the Papal States captured Venice, and there are no more Trade Leagues to jump into.

So since there is a Tyrone O'Neill on the throne in Sweden, does that mean you excommunicated a relative? Heh.

8 new provinces open up. I send colonist to Acadia and Stadacona. Stadacona has 5 tax value and it is deep in Canadian area off the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Where are the Protestants on the map? Auvergne, Poitou, both provinces of Auvergne, my vassal, Lyonnais, Rouergue, Nevers, Brunswick, and Wurttemburg,

Do you know what the chance is to annex England? Unlikely. Not Maybe, and not Very unlikely, but just unlikely. That’s a shot worth taking to my eyes. It’s probably just 20% or something.

The factors are there - low badboy, high prestige, solid diplomacy skill, their ruler is Excommunicated,

I will be leaving one of the armies here and taking the other back, and then assembling a new army for back

With our provinces going to it instead of our vassal Holland, Antwerp is now the most valuable COT in the world, more than 200 above Astrakhan.

Holland dropped to just 80, it lost all of its value when we moved.

Can we get an updated map?

Autumn

Yes, please.

Abe Sargent
01-07-2010, 07:16 PM
I didn;t have internet for a day, so I played ahead but I haven;t got caught up yet in the dynasty. I can give you maps from 11 years previously, 1499. Or I can get you 1536, which is how far i played. I don;t think either will help. Tell you what, why don't I put in parentheses where a province is if it doesn;t use a modern day placename for colonization purposes?

I have colonists to Santee (Coastal South Carolina), Pamlico (Coastal North Carolina), Bahamas, Bermuda.

Unami is New Jersey. Manhattan, Massachiusetts, Delaware ,Mobile, Connecticut are exactly what you think they are. Abnaki is Maine. Taqamkuk and Beothuk together make up the island of Newfoundland. Acadia and Micmac are north of Maine up to and through the coast. Micmac is New Brunswick, and Acadia Nova Scotia. Epekwitk is better known as Prince Edward Island, and Unamakik beside it is direct east of Prince Edward Isle and known today as Cape Breton Island north of and part of Nova Scotia.

Stadacona is where the St. Lawrence River meets the gulf, and it is, tax base wise, the most valuable of these provinces in the area.

Kespek is between Stadacona and Micmac and Abnaki on the other, so it is adjacent to Maine. It is on the southern part of the Gulf of St. Lawrence

Seminole, where the Portugese are, is the southern half of Florida.

That should be most of where we are in order to help. As I send out more colonists and talk about new world provinces, I'll tell you where it is until I can get you caught up.

With The Canarias now a core, I can colonize as deep as Cuba from them, and as south as Bahamas and Turks from Vestbygen, although I still have a three star and four star navigator, giving me +20 and +15 percent to my colonial range.

Like I said, I just want to poach a couple of islands in the Carribbean, like you would expect any colonial power to do. I am currently working on Bahamas and Turks, and that’s fair. I was thinking of grabbing a couple of islands in the Lesser Antilles, and many are still available -

I send colonists to Martinique, with a large native population 6 taxbase, and low aggressiveness and virtually no ferocity, and a 87% chance of taking.

June 16 - Manhattan expands to 998

Ireland in the Lowlands

Dec 6 - I can move my National Focus for the next 25 years. I was considering dropping it on Antwerp. It would help with the Zeeland Missionary, rebels in all three states, and so forth. However, do they need it?

I could also send it to colonies. For example, I could send it to Massachusetts and then colonize Penacook (New Hampshire), Pocumtuk (Vermont), Narraganset (Rhode Island), Connecticut and Mahican and they would all get +50% colonial growth. That would be very powerful. Up until now, I have used this as a tool to control revolts from new provinces. Local provinces can get special decisions like Post Offices. However, sending this to Massachusetts would really help the colonial effort. On the other hand, my badboy has dropped to 4.2, and I feel that another gobble of land could really help, so I could save the Focus and use it for my next possessions. Are there areas I should look at for future expansion?

Since I have grabbed three lowlands provinces, I’ve pretty much accepted that Lowalnds expansion is acceptable. Where could I go hither?

Calais, is poor, and it’s right next to me. An English province owned by England with an English core only nets 11.23 ducats. Hainaut gets 12.32, Brabant itself is nice at 31.75, Breda, the capital of Brabant has 26.8, Utrecht gets 23.3 and those are all Brabant provinces. Holland and Friesland, controlled by my vassal Holland, get some dough.

I may not be France’s ally at the moment, but I still like them a lot. I don’t want to start grabbing French provinces like Artois or Picardie. I could attack three province Normandie or four province Brittany.. Who do I have a Cb against?

Reconquest on Auvergne, my vassal
Alliance on Sweden
Colonialism on Portugal and Castille
Holy War on Cherokee and Ottomans
Excommunicated on England, Pisa, Austria and Portugal
Trade Dispute on Sweden, Austria, and Castille
Colonial Conquest on Maya and Cherokee

Nothing there I can use. I could hope that, in a few years, I get the ability to Excommunciate whiel I am Pope, and take out someone, but that bomb cannot be used against non-Catholics, like Brabant and and Normandie. Wait, what am I doing?

I can send a spy to Fabricate Claims on Brabant. Cost is 108 ducats, 77% chance fo success, just a 36% chance of discovery, temporary CB on Brabant

Success, and not discovered.

Jan 27, 1516 0 I land a second army in Vlaanderen.

Feb 17 - I can Excommunicate. I hold onto it and DOW Brabant.

All of my allies are in. Bohemia, the HRE, also declares their support for Brabant, but Sweden, the Defender of Reformed Faith, does not.

I order my troops in.

Feb 19 - I get an event. Minorities Flock to Kespek. It gains 400 people, becomes protestant, and gains Religious Migration for 25 years. It is now self sustaining.

Kespek - 1559 Irish Protestants, 3.62 ducats, naval supplies, next to Stadacona, Micmac and Abnaki, plus Kwedech. Religious Migration means it gets +10% population growth for 25 years, but -10% missionary chance during that time.

Feb 23 - Pamlico expands and more are sent

Mar 16 - We win a battle in Breda against the main Brabant force

Apr 22 - Failed assault in Hainaut

May 15 - Hainaut falls after a second assault

May 30 - I decline a white peace offer

July 23 - Brabant offers me peace for Brabant, Limburg, Gelre and Hainaut. Now, Brabant I do want. Sure. No, not right now, I push on.

Aug 16 - Pamlico expands. It is now a full city. Colonists sent to Bahamas

Sept 5 - Breda falls. I order my forces to Utrecht,t he final Brabant province not in my hands

Sept 17 - Brabant offers me the same four provinces, over 300 ducats, and renege their claims on Zeeland. I do not immediately reject.

Sept 22 - Utrecht falls before both my armies and troops from Auvergne.

I send a peace envoy.

I take their money, the loss of a core, and three provonces - Hainaut, Brabant, and Limburg.

I move my National Focus to Brabant province.

Nov 29 - White Peace with Bohemia

Our new provinces:

Limburg - 44876 Flemish Reformed. Iron mines, 16.74 ducats. Temple, marketplace, courthouse and workshop. Next to Brabant, Breda, Munster, Berg, Koln, and Liege7% revolt

Hainaut - 63296 Wallonian Protestant, cloth, 17.25 ducats, 10.5 revolt. Temple, next to Brabant, Vlaanderen, Liege, Valenciennes, Cambray and Artois

Brabant - National focus, 115278 Flemish, cloth, Protestant, 9.3% revolt, 30.69 ducats, university, marketplace, temple.

I build Post Offices in Antwerp and Vlaanderen

We now have 15.6 badboy and time for more cooling.

The Irish Colonial Age Continues

Now, I have the Excommunicate Bomb, but there are few cardinals left right now, and I am about to lose it. Do I use it now? Who is even Catholic?

I excommunicate Corsica

With my blood money, I order a fort in Pamlico, Kespek, and missionaries to my three conquered provinces.

Dec 7 - Bermuda becomes reformed

Pamlico - 2417, cotton growers, Irish Catholic, 5.52 ducats. Next to Santee, Powhatan and an unknown inland province or two.

May 1 - NLD Tuscarora - the inland province on Pamlico

June 4 - Post Office in Zeeland

Aug 10 - Bermuda expands, and rebecomes Catholic

Sept 1 - Naval Tech Increase. Let me see my range now

With that, I choose to create a tech advisor and drop one of my navigators.

I create a level 5 statesman and hire him

I lost practically nothing with the navigator since my tech increased

Oct 7 - In order to finish off Unami, I send in colonists.

Dec 8 - Rebels in Vlaanderen

Dec 26 - Austria is now Defender of the Faith

Dec 28 - the Papal States arenow Papal Controller

Jan 7, 1518 - Rebels defeated

Jan 13 - the Papacy revoked my Excommunication of Corsica

England has a new King, Henry V, and Queen Mary is dead, so they are no longer Excommunicated.

Mar 2 - Norway’s king died, and we form a personal union with “Norway” and their one province in Orkney

So my rebels long ago have borne fruit

Mar 22 - Unami is now a full city, mission accomplished, and I order a fort here..

New Mission - Colonize Powhatan

Unami - 2523 fishing Irish Catholics, making 10.79 ducats. Next to Manhattan, Delaware, and some inland unknown provinces.

I send colonists to Powhatan. 78% of taking, next to Pamlico, and I get colonists if it works, taxbase 6, I’m in. (Powhatan is coastal Virginia)

Land, production, trade, or something els.e Hmm. Let’s try a different tactic than normal.

I use 5 naval and 15 cultural tradition to make a five star Lord Proprietor, which gives me 10% colonial growth across the board.

The loss of the Navigator doesn’t hurt anything at all.

Nov 4 - Sugar in Martinique

Dec 1 - Bermuda is now self sustaining.

Bermuda - Level 1 fort on the way, 1001 Irish Catholics, naval supplies, 3.92 ducats.

The Height of the Irish Colonial Age

Apr 1 - France bankrupt

If I wanted to release land and create a vassal, here is who I could create (you can only create traditionally independent minded areas)

Flanders, Hainaut, Cornwall, Wales, Northumberland, Tyrone, Leinster, Munster, Connacht

Apr 7 - Tobacco in Conoy

Apr 12 - Tuscarora founded

June 1 - We have more ships than Sweden, and our next mission is to colonize Cameroon

June 22 - Road Network in Antwerp

July 2 - I get another Minorities to Taqamkuk, and the 400 additional people puts in into regular city status.

Taqamkuk - 1660 Irish Protestants, fish, 4.39 ducats, I order a fort, Religious Migration for 24 years, and adjacent to Beothuk

As you can see, I’ve been finishing some colonies as I add more.

July 5 - I saw Portugal finally took a Cuban province, and I incited natives to take them off, and success but I was found.

I decide to send colonists to Cameroon, and if they succeed, they are replaced, so no major loss, and then I will not support it, so if it gets killed it gets killed.

Oct 16 - Glamorgan is now Reformed. I can’t send a missionary yet. Next year probably

Tuscarora, for example, is growing now at a rate of 88/year. That includes my advisor, the Idea, my decision Colonial Expansion, and being a bit narrowminded. You’ll note that I always wanted to change that slider, but I’ve waited while working on others in order to get this bonus. Plus, it helps with the Papacy stuff.

Three More

Sept 8, I decide to take my last Caribbean possession, Cuba. I send colonists to Guantanamo, Havana and Moron. When Portugal or Castille have taken one of these, I have always immediately incited the natives against them, and now it’s my turn to colonize the entire island, and then I am done, and I will leave the others, like Jamaica, Guadeloupe, St Martin, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Curacao and Antigua for others. I also have no desire to enter South or Central America.

Oct 1 - Extend Road Network in Oxfordshire

Dec 3 - Powhatan expands

Dec 18 - Tobacco in Dominica

Feb 1, 1524 - Today is a great day. Acadia is no longer a colony!

Acadia - 2003 Irish Catholic make naval supplies like lumber, and make us 5.12 ducats in the process. Acadia is next to Micmac, Epekwitk and Unamakik

Feb 28 - Sweden annexed the Kingdom The Hansa

Mar 20 Okay, here we go.
23rd - Guantanamo - yes
31st - Havana - yes
15th - Moron - yes

Apr 1 - Wessex, Cumbria, and Lancashire are now cores

All three Cuban provinces made it in one (as a reminder, Catholics get +20% to hit with colonists, this is where I am supposed to be good)

Moron and Guantanamo have good low aggressive natives, and Havana, only in the middle, but with low ferocity.

Apr 28 - Minorities flock to Martinique. It is now a full colony:

Martinique - 3610 Sugar farmers, Irish Protestant, 7.21 ducats, Religious Migration

May 9 -Spread of Disease in Moron among the natives. I choose to assuage their pain. I lose 40 ducats, gain extra overseas income and colonist chance in Moron for a short while.

May 24 - Road Network in Lincoln, colonists to Conoy

July 1 - Abnaki has grown to be self sufficient

Abnaki - 2504, fur, Irish Catholic, 10.38 ducats, next to Micmac, Pennacook and an inland province named Kwedich, which is actually next on my colonize list.

I send colonists to Kwedich (inland Quebec, along St. Lawrence river up from Stadacona)

As you may know, I do have to pay upkeep on my colonies annually. With my current 13 colonies (Cameroon, Turks, Moron, Guantanamo, Havana, Pennacook, Atikamekw, Ungava, Delaware, Conoy, Dominica, Powhatan, and Tuscarora.) I have a monthly upkeep of 21.2 ducats at max. That’s not too bad at all. I get 76 annually from my COT in Antwerp, so that, alone, pays for my upkeep of several colonies.

Now, on the other hand, I have 11.9 inflation, because I am minting 38 ducats monthly to pay for military and navy and advisors. My navy is just 5, my military 18.3, and my advisors 1.6. So I am losing about 9 ducats a month, and I make a lot more annually in the annual taxes, so I make some money each year around January. Right now, I have 286 gold. You’ll note that I didn’t push that too much and build a bunch of forts in the new colonies this year, because I’m a bit cash sensitive right now.

Nov 10 - Conoy expands

I think it is interesting that no country has sent colonists to Cape Verde. I’m sure everyone knows where it is now, and tons of European nations have the range, why not send otherwise useless colonists to grab a native free piece of land?

Dec 13 - Kwedech is the newest colony of ours.

Dec 15 - I get an event - Carnal Sins. Our King is enticed by a hot chick. I can counsel that he bed her and have a bastard, or keep chaste. Note, we do not currently have an heir. Meet our new, weak, heir, Cathal, with 6 Adm, 9 Dip, and 3 Military, but he’s weak cause he’s a bastard.

May 2 - I send colonists to Lenape

June 1 - Another native attack in Pennacook so I send in more colonists to help with the numbers

Nov 1 - In case you were wondering:

We have the best prestige in the world by far, with 84, next highest is Sardinia at 33.
Our inflation is over 12%, and that’s not good.
We have the third highest income in the world after Austria and Castille with their gold mines
Land tech is no longer high.. We fell here as money became a priority for a while. We are two-4 behind the leader in everything except government, where we are still the #1 tied with Austria and Brittany

Nov 4 Lenape colonization failed despite a 93% chance of taking. I sent in more colonists.

And that’s it. Not a lot of quality there other than London.

I order another army built for London. The Scottish provinces get 64.5 ducats spend on them total for three Missionaries. This is going to piss them off, so both of my current armies are moving up there.

I send a few modest gifts to some of my other vassals. When this happens, other vassals drop to 100 loyalty.

Armies are:

London
Antwerp
Hainaut
Fife
Lothian
Unami

Okay, I spend some cash to integrate England into my nation, and I’ll spend some more on some modest gifts over the next year. But, I gained 6 provinces without declaring war.

I paid a down payment years and years ago when I took England as my vassal instead of getting massive amounts of land, with the hope that someday I could finish the job and get London. Well, it just came due.

Kwedech - 1505 fur traders of Irish descent and Catholic worship make us 9.48 ducats annually. This province is next to Stadacona, Hochelega, Abnaki, Kespek, Pennacook, the unclaimed Pocumtuk, and at least one unseen native province.

Apr 10 - Rebels in Lothian and London

Apr 22 - Lothian ones destroyed

July 5 - Despite a 92% chance of taking, we fail to establish a colony in Monacan, so I send in more

Aug 14 - Mobile is now a colony

I am making a map of the new possession so you can see

I draw a black line around the new possessions so you can see where they are and how big they are. Here are the new colonies:

Mohawk
Oneida
Onondaga
Cayuga
Seneca
Niagara
Huron
Ontario
Ottawa

They are all Shamanist and experiencing revolution. They are almost all fur. Ontario is grain, the rest are fur. They are all in the 3000-5500 population range. They make us between 2.23 for Ontario’s grain and 5.88 for Onondaga. Some provinces are Huron, others Iroquois. They should move to my culture when they convert.

Ok, reading this has given me the urge to play. What version of EU3 are you playing/recommend?

I have all three expansions and they add a lot, like magistrates, decisions, national focus, missions, cultural tradition, and such. If you have never played an EU game before, it's a real time game that feels turn based. It is very rich, deep, has a steep learning curve, and allows you to do lots of different things. There are some fans on the board of traditional PC strategy games who do not like it or Crusader Kings, but for my money, its the best historical strategy gaming experience I've ever had, better than Civ (barely). Many others love them too, but if you want a different viewpoint, you can head to the main thread and serach for Eu3 threads.

Aug 14 - Gelre converts

Aug 17 - Grain in Allegheny

Sept 1 - Nassau falls

Sept 9 - Revolt in Oxfordshire

Sept 18 - Koln falls

Sept 20 - We get Hesse to release Mainz as a free state (which we enter into a RM with), give us Koln, revoke their core on Berg, and give us a little cash

Koln - 105485, Protestant Hessian, workshop, customs house, marketplace, temple - grain, 16.73 ducats. Between Limburg and Berg, and above Liege, Luxembourg, Trier and Koblenz, and west of Nassau

Like Abe, I really like the EU games and they are my favorite historical games. EU3 especially. HTTT really changes a lot about how the game is played. I played through a few games with it, and am waiting for the MMP mod to come out for HTTT to see how that changes things as well. As great as EU3 is, I think a few things about it are too easy, like colonization.

June 9 - Rebels in Cayuga and luckily I was moving through there

What I have to do with the natives is build forts first, and then send Missionaries. Right now, any rebels can capture the province, and that stops the missionary and I have to pay to send another. The same is true of building something, so I have to keep an army in a space where a fort is being built for a year, so I can’t just build a bunch of forts all at once, but slowly. This will take a while.

I send Missionary to Koln

It’s nice that I have a money product like fur to really corner the market in.

I don’t have any tea, spices, ivory, chinaware, wine, wool or gold. I can’t believe I don’t have any wool provinces. I usually can’t get rid of the nasty things.

I think there is way much tobacco and cotton on the map this time, and the prices for it are lowered. Plus, you need more slave provinces to really help their value. I’m not sure how many slaves are out there.

Castille is at war with two Indian nations, so again, they must be really far out there.

The new world is really just a three man race between Castille, Portugal and me. England is gone. The Netherlands probably will never form and Holland is my vassal while I own the other land. France is going through major issues for decades. Aragon colonized Cape Verde and I hope it is the beginning.

There are still a few new world provinces left in prime places, but not too many. Curacao, Jamaica, a bunch of South American coastals with low tax value.

We each have three of the islands in the Antilles. Castile has St Kitts, Martin and Antigua. Portgual has St Thomas, Lucia and Barbados. I have the other three. Castille has Trinidad and Puerto Rico. I have Cuba. Portugal has Hispaniola. I have some nearby island groups like Turks and Bahamas. Portugal has Azores, and Madeira. I have North America, they have provinces in Brazil and south, plus some more north.

Portugal has taken over almost all of Aztec. Castille has annexed African nations like Kongo, Portugal annexed Zimbabwe.

Castille has North Africa locked.

Landwise - I do not know who is ahead and who is behind. We are all doing very well.

My guess is Castille, but I took a major chunk out of that I suspect in the last few years with Huron and continental provinces

I feel like I am approaching the end of this dynasty. I know I’m not even 200 years in, but what is left? I haven’t had a large badboy in forever, I have the isles to myself, I have a nice chunk of continental real estate, I have almost every open province in Canada and the US other than Florida and south Texas, I’ve already colonized into the mid-west and Michigan, and up through Arkansas. I have Cuba, three Antilles islands, Turks, Bahamas, and Bermuda, plus The Canarias and Cameroon. How much longer before I’ve united my growing colony up the Mississippi river and the one in the Midwest? How much longer before I’ve colonized the west coast? that’s all I’m doing, colonizing. I haven’t waged war against Europe for new land at all. I’ve already bent the original rules of the dynasty to grab land in the lowlands and a bit in Germany, how much farther do I push? I’ve already met all of my goals.

I started Songhai with one goal - Unify Africa. I also took Mecca and the land path to it, like I though a Sunni state would want. After that, I was done, and I set the dynasty down. I started this dynasty with the desire to unite Ireland, take Britain, and colonize Canada and the US. No one can stop my colonization. We are so deep inland that no other power can stop us.

I have never taken Land of Opportunity before as my Idea, nor have I ever had a Estates General advisor (the colony grower) so I got a chance t o do some new things.

The new expansion does add a lot. The HRE stuff is awesome, so much so that I am tempted to try out an HRE power next time. One more edict and the HRE would have stopped being vassals and all been one country. Awesome. Magistrates and what they add are great. I absolutely adore cultural tradition and being able to choose your advisors, just like you can make generals, admirals, explores and conquistadors. I love the idea of an heir and legitimacy. Having visible badboy was great too. I think the expansion was a good one.

Each expansion really added a lot to EU3, no doubt. Decisions, additional spy options, missions and such have made the game much better.

Abe Sargent
01-16-2010, 12:23 AM
What would I want to see in EU4?

The ability to do stuff with Wasteland provinces, like move across them with armies at a massive attrition, or the ability to make them settle-able with some serious financial input, etc. Make them small provinces and more realistic. There is no reason that jungles throughout Africa are very settle able, but inner Jungles are not. Many deserts are provinces, but some aren’t Many mountains are settle-able,m but a few aren’t. EU has always given you the historically used provinces, but there is no reason tot think that places like Montana and Idaho, or Quebec, couldn’t be settled. I rather have the choice, I don’t like being told I can’t do something.

I would like to see some diplomacy changes. I love diplomacy in this game, but sometimes weird stuff happens to your relations with another country, and you don’t know why. Within my first year at Barrois, some of the countries in the HRE with whom I began the game with good relations would invariably have severe relations in every time I tried to play it. My relations with Castille went from 140 to -40 in this game, and I could not tell you why. They should add a historical screen for each country you can click on to document all of the diplomatic changes that were made.

In EU2, economic products were always the same value. Chinaware was always uber-valuable, with Spices and Sugar quite high as well. In EU3, with the random product to a province, sometimes you get unrealistic products. There is no way you are getting cotton in the mountains, for example. You can’t get iron in the Applachian mountain chain, for example. Why not? Why not add Naval Supplies as one of the options in Jungle colonies, (in real life jungle colonies were often used to timber for boats)? In this game, they are too fickle. They need to hit a medium. Chinaware, with established trade to Europe, should always be the most valuable good. So should spices. Wars were fought over the spice trade. The entire exploration and colonial effort was started simply to break Venice’s hold on the spice trade. Spies were so valuable, that they drove diplomacy, war, and exploration for centuries. In the game, they should not be less valuable than things like Copper and Wine. If you have a spice province in the Caribbean, that is money on trees literally. Salt, Spices, Chinaware - some products should always be near the top of the food chain.

And some should always be near the bottom. Naval supplies, grain, fish, wool - these should always be chump provinces, although sometimes in EU3, you get a weird economy like I had where grain is more valuable than cotton, tobacco, etc. These provinces instead should have other abilities. Grain provinces should give you better manpower (they do), naval supplies should help with building or upkeeping ships, etc.

I want you to be able to have a decision that changes a province’s good. This happened a lot in real life. Bermuda went from naval supplies (lumber) to tobacco. One of the Caribbean colonies whose name escapes me moved to spices after they were imported from Asia. Trinidad went from sugar to cocoa. Antigua went from tobacco to sugar. This happened in real life. Besides, shouldn’t you be able to move from cotton to grain or from tobacco to grain with little trouble?

I want to see dyes, wax, whales, New World foods, pearls and silver mines. Perhaps even cocoa and rubber. Take Socotra, for example. Socotra was quite valuable in real life, because only on it could you find the sap, Dragon’s Blood, which was used as a dye. But, in EU, there are no dyes, so how do you value the province? You Can’t give it spice, that’s over-egging it. What do you do? It would be nice if, after years of playing with the same 20, we get a few new things to play with. Especially since many are localized to certain regions of the world, like slaves or tobacco, tea or chinaware. Another example is Margarita, which had a strong pearl farming economy, so powerful, that the Spanish began to raid Trinidad as slaves for its operation in 1511.

I’ve mentioned in the Songhai dynasty the surrealness of an empire that had so many slave provinces. Could you imagine Rome selling off its citizens as slaves to the Germanic Tribes for profit? That needs to be fixed.

For colonies, in EU2, you could build a colony or a trading post, but the Trading Post idea is gone. Why? I like it. I would like to see it return along with two new options. In addition to building colonies or posts, what if you could build a fort there, or a Mission there. The mission would take a missionary and try to convert without you being there, but you would fund it like other missionaries. You could claim an area with a Fort and some soldiers to gaud it, and then colonize later. Make that take up some manpower or something, and not a colonist. Then you can move sliders into and out of the province without always having to face natives.

I also think there should be an economic advantage to having a majority of the provinces that make something. It you have 8 of the 10 tea province in the world, there should be some extra bonuses.

Loved the dynasty Abe. Very engaging. I'm gonna fire up EU3 and give it another whirl. I used to play EU1 all the time when it came out, EU2 kind of burnt me out, and EU3 has barely gotten any play from me. Time to fix that, I think.

I was looking online and if I buy EU3 Complete and EU3 Rome, would that cover all the expansion packs?

EU Rome is a different game and many do not like it.

EU3 has these expansions:

Napoleon's ambition
In Nomine
Heir to the Throne

I think complete has the first two.

Right, EU3: Complete only has the first two expansions. They didn't intend to make a 3rd expansion, but I'm glad they did. EU: Rome is a different game. The original game was basic and "bleh", but the expansion did add a lot to it and I liked it after that. Still plenty of minor complaints, though. I was thinking of diving into modding it to see what I could do with it. I enjoy EU: Rome + the expansion, but EU3 + the three expansions is much, much better.
